I seriously wish we could try and switch to something better. I may have to start buying her better food myself! =P
What would be the best choice for my dog?
She's a small Beagle, an adult at this point. I need something that would be healthy for her, but as cheap as I can get.
I'm pretty sure my mom is getting Purina because it's cheap. I've read the ingredients and have been following this thread for a while for advice. Purina is a load of crap, and I really do care for my dog. I want her to be as happy and healthy as possible.
Unfortunately, I'm not old enough to live on my own. I do have a little bit of money, and I can easily earn some by working for my family and such. But I still want to get something that is cheap, but worth it. If it's over what I'm expecting, I'll be fine with it. Anything for my pooch. x3 I love to bits. At least I don't dress her up like some doll. >___>
I started with Canidae Single Grain Protein Plus at like 30lbs for 40ish bucks. After seeing the results I was wwwaayy more willing to fork over a little bit of money. xD
I really recommend buying a bag and trying it out. A beagle should only eat like.. What.. 2 cups..? 1 1/2? A bag will last atleast two months and it should show results.
Alright! I'll see if my mom can take me to a pet food store sometime. Thank you for your input! :3
My
dog can be really hyper, but she has progressively become lazy. (We've only had her for two years.) She also often has a greasy feeling coat with dull fur.
Whenever I stroke her, my hand feels dirty and greasy. =P Pretty gross. But that doesn't normally keep me from giving her some attention.
Something funny about her that I would like to mention; she likes to chew on her foot. She will literally start licking her foot, then shove the entire thing in her mouth. And she'll sit on my bed, chewing on it as if it were her rawhide or something. (Speaking of which, is rawhide good for dogs?)

Chewing on her paw can be a sign of allergies. That may stop once you switch her off of Purina ouo-b

^What Iberian
And with rawhide, I would not recommend it, though you could give it to her IF under supervision. Some dogs will swallow it once it's soft, and can choke on the large amount. The shelter I volunteer at will not give them to any of the animals because they had deaths from them in the past.

Rawhide: Do you mean the long
strips or ones like
these? Or would both apply? (We give her the latter.)

Kinda odd/stupid question... but can dogs be fed a whole prey diet consisting of f/t rats and rabbits and mice, etc.?
In the future whatever dog I get will be fed a raw diet/high quality kibble, but of course with me owning snakes it'd be probably be more convenient and cheaper to feed a dog what my reptiles eat, hah.
I need to start a 'dog question thread' for myself because I'm a huge 'dog noob'... my speciality is snakes, lol.

A dog noob. No way! Lies! You know a little so your short of a noob! Now I got a question? So my dad works for the government {Side note: I am canadian.} So my dad brings home fresh meat bones. He inspects the food that gets shipped out of the country and makes sure it does not contain anything work. He also makes sure people are doing their job right. So my dad brings home
these types of bones. Are these ok for him?

Raw feeders can provide the bulk of the information but...
If the source is clean, the dog can eat it as long as it's raw meat/organs/bone as a general rule. As a staple diet, no, prey diet feeders will tell you that a variety of small and large game/meat is the best way to go. I believe Link feeds whole prey, and Dakonic mixes whole prey and cuts (again, I THINK! not sure), so one of them is probably a decent launching pad :]

I thought your dad was a vet, in China, helping the pandas?
Those look like beef ribs to me, which are a controversial food source. They are also mostly bone, when the meal should be mostly meat. One or two meals of beef ribs isn't bad, but not a good staple.
