into the wild

Postby -Obsidian » Sun May 23, 2010 8:03 pm

Wind couldn't stand it any more; the teasing, the taunting, the kicking and biting. She had to leave. "All this for just being the smallest horse in racing history," Wind muttered to herself as her jockey tacked her up for a gentle hack before he left for the Derby stakes with Wind's brother, Storm. He was the only race horse who didn't taunt her for being small. A sharp jolt struck her as the girth was tightened and Wind let out a sigh, "maybe more like a cross country ride?" She asked herself, feeling weary before she'd even began. Her jockey mounted and almost imediatly nudged her into a working trot as they came the to dusty track which lead to the acres and acres of farmland and wood. Oh great, Wind thought as she tensed: The white shape of Devon's pearl came cantering over from the oppisite side of her paddock closely followed by the dark bay gelding, Chocolate Chip Umbrella. Pearl was the bossiest mare in the yard; she thought she owned the place and sometimes, Wind thought so too. "Well look who it is!" Snarled Pearl, smirking. "Little miss Wind who's four gallop strides is equal to a single stride from a real race horse. Chip sniggered gave Wind a 'reply now' look. Wind thought quickly, "I'll race you to the woods," She snorted, still trotting along the track. For a split second, Pearl let a flash of suprize run though her blue eyes, but then it was gone as soon it had started. "You asked for it," Pearl reared before leaping forward into a brilliant gallop. Chip tagged behind, oviously not as enthusiastic as his friend was. Wind burst forward, she could feel the breeze ruffling her mane and pelt, tail streaming out behind her. Her jockey had been taken by suprize and was hanging on for dear life. Suddenly, Pearl and Chip stopped in mid-gallop and turned to look at her with confused faces. "Your going to jump that?" Chip sounded surprized. "Jump wh-," In a moment that seemed like years, Wind realized she'd veered off the track and was running straight into a 6 foot fence. There was no time to stop - She was going to have to jump it .... Smash... Wind opened her eyes, she couldn't feel any pain at all she was cantering across a feild with long grass and mountains in the distance. She looked back to see a 6 foot fence with a crumpled lump at the bottom. the memory came flooding back; racing Pearl and Chip.... Jupming and clearing the fence.... her hooves hitting something soft.... the crunch of...of...bone. Wind stopped. "i've killed my jockey," she breathed. She was breathing heavily, tasting the scent of death on the breeze. She couldn't go back, not now, she'd be killed to. And Wind reared, freedom washing over her as she cantered into the woods, into the wild.

hope you like it, bluestar123

Hi there,

The picture is really good, but I would hesitate a little with saying it's intermediate. You definitly have the talent for it! But there is something you should really think of: You used the smudging tool a lot, don't you? To be honest, this is something that you should try to avoid. Please, don't feel offended or something, I still like it. But just from writing "omg! I love it!" you will not improve. I like to have fair critisism on my pictures and I think everybody else, too. So I try to give you some: Practice on drawing long fur and grass without the smudging tool. You don't need it.
