general description: McKenzie is a tall and thin fellow, who generally doesn’t look very nice in a suit but wears one anyway. He claims that it makes him feel professional. He takes good care of himself, even though he has bags under his eyes and wrinkles are beginning to show up on his forehead prematurely due to the stress he suffers from day to day. His expression is what one might call “deadpan” and uninterested, and he has this ability to stare at people without needing to blink for a while. When he smiles, he ends up looking even weirder than usual. He wears thin-rimmed reading glasses, and he wouldn’t be able to decipher any kind of text without them. His hair is fine and straight, and usually plastered as close to his head as possible. McKenzie has tattoos over his tattoos, signs of his earlier years when he was a rebellious youth out looking for trouble. In general, he looks rather douchey.
- AND WHAT MAKES YOU CUT OUT FOR THE JOB?
- personality: This might be a bit of a stretch, but Mackenzie is the type of person who could make others feel demeaned and unworthy just by subjecting them to his tone of voice. He acts like people aren’t worth his time, and would rather pick his nails during a conversation than look somebody in the eye. God forbid that he actually agrees with them, that might make him seem a little too nice. This helps him cope with stress easier, he has found, and he wouldn’t drop his technique for the world. He really doesn't need any more grey hairs, truth be told. However, despite the fact that he usually prefers not to look at anyone, he has been known to sometimes stare at people until he is sure that he has made them completely uncomfortable. It's his thing, you see, his way of showing people that he's not about to take any of their, ahem, sh*t. He is quite fond of people who can stare back at him without beginning to fidget in their seat, and those who will take his tendencies to blurt out depressing scenarios and slap them right in his face. Not literally, of course. Slapping him might just land the offender a knife in the stomach. But really, basically, most of The Family fits the above criteria, and he is so proud of them all. Kind of like a mother hen. He wouldn't really replace them very soon, seeing as they do their job, and they do it well. And if they begin to get sloppy, well, he's just have to... let The Momma take care of them, or something like that.
It is clear just by looking at him that Mackenzie isn't a very confrontational person. When he gets mad, he can become rather dangerous, but usually, he'd rather stay in the background. He prefers to go unnoticed for as long as possible, if possible at all. It is not that he is a coward, per say, though he has had his cowardly moments. Running a mafia is just too much work for him, and has been ever since he inherited his rank. He enjoys his off days, and he enjoys them even more in great numbers, when they come in succession of each other. But despite the fact that all of the vibes he gives out show that he would much rather be in another location, as far away from the mafia as possible, he wouldn't abandon his job that easily. And people know this, which is why he hasn't been shot in an alleyway and thrown over the harbor yet. He has sworn to himself that he wouldn't give up his position until he finds someone dedicated and talented enough to run a delicate business like his. He might be a bit of a hypocrite, seeing as he is hardly dedicated or talented, but he likes to think that he is both of those thing, plus a lot more.
Mackenzie is the biggest pessimist that has come out of the mafia to date. His glass isn’t just half empty; it holds no water at all. He takes his whole life with a grain of salt, but can be very paranoid at times. Many scenarios of how things could go wrong constantly whirl through his mind, especially during a potential job. It sometimes affects his duties, and sometimes not. Usually it all depends on how chipper he feels that day, and chipper for him is paying just a little more attention to things than usual. Even when he agrees with something, he’ll always shoot it down, although a little less than he would to something that he is absolutely against. Coupling his pessimism with his inattentiveness makes him a rather frustrating man to deal with, especially during serious conversations. But contrary to popular belief, it’s not that difficult to get him riled. His whole uncaring attitude is just a way for him to cope, a mask to get people to leave him alone for “just a few more danged minutes, what are you, my mother?” and when he does get worked up, he might as well turn into a hissing snake. If he yells for just long enough, spittle could come flying out of his mouth. And he doesn’t particularly care about this due to the fact that he can become so consumed in putting others in their place, that he barely even registers his actions or surroundings.
Mackenzie has been known to be sarcastic from time to time. Usually, he likes to go on the route of making people feel stupid about themselves, their ideas, and their actions. He’ll stay quiet when people ask him questions, adopting his most unimpressed expression, until they cave and excuse themselves. He doesn’t do this very often, seeing as it has begun to work less and less these days, but he sometimes employs it against the younger, newer members of The Family. It makes him feel just a little more powerful, and even though he knows that picking on those younger than him isn’t exactly the noblest of traits, he reasons that he’s the boss, and he could do as he very well pleases.
history: Mackenzie knew the mafia from a young age. His father was but a rookie when his son was born, but still couldn’t be there for his wife after she had given birth. Mackenzie barely saw his father those first few years, as the man worked harder to move up in rank. He barely had time for his family, and as such Mackenzie decided that he didn’t have time for his father, those very few times he came to stay with his wife and child. Nevertheless, Mackenzie grew up like any other child. He was a real troublemaker, but still had friends. His mother did her best to raise him properly, though her job kept her from spending too much time with her son. Mackenzie learned to take care of himself, as most of the time he was alone in the house. He never resented his mother for it, as he knew what her job meant to her. He wanted to know what his father’s occupation was as well, but the man was oddly secretive about it, until Mackenzie’s eleventh birthday.
His father came home bleeding, and from then on Mackenzie became just a little more disillusioned. Mackenzie’s mother sat him down and explained then, what his father actually did when he was out. Mackenzie accepted that unusually fast for a child. His uncaring attitude towards his father began to morph into fear. After that incident, whenever the man came home, Mackenzie stayed clear from his path, hiding in his room or running out to loiter on the streets. But his leftover innocence wouldn’t last forever.
At fourteen, Mackenzie was made to join the Family. It was not an easy process, but by then his father had become quite influential, and was gunning for the leadership position, as the previous father was growing old and weak. Mackenzie was nothing but a gopher. He did small jobs, running around and delivering messages, and similar things. A few years passed in this vein. When Mackenzie was sixteen, his father became the new leader of the Family. Mackenzie had gone up in the ranks as well, but was still nothing but a message delivery boy, and occasionally a hitter. He wasn’t much skilled with killing from a distance, so mostly he went on and finished off those who managed to get away.
Mackenzie’s father was assassinated when Mackenzie had just turned twenty five. Mackenzie found himself to be the new Father. And things went downhill from then.
