My pawsteps were silent - unheard, as I watched them from the bushes. My black & white fur hid me easily, despite how most think, and I pondered over what I was doing. Why did I even let them make me do this?... Everybody knew I was some sort of "mutant" as some would say. I had stopped growing at an early age, and most seemed to hide from me - or in other words, avoid me. Some even believed I was contaminated - and if I touched any wolf, they would immediately stop growing. Others, yet foolish, even tried - but there was no result, they kept on growing. But that wasn't the worst. The worst was those... scarred wolves... I knew them by name. Carry, Ruckus, Crow, and Viper. Carry was the only she-wolf in the pack, rough, and dangerous, with those sharp claws of hers. Ruckus was a average sized he-wolf, whose brown fur hid him easily in the dark. He was ruthless, and not well known for genorosity. Crow was the smallest, but he could fit through every gap. Although he was small, he put up a fight, with sharp retorts. Viper... he was the worst. The leader, he was colored exactly like a Viper - and he was huge. His amber eyes could petrify anyone... from the smallest pup, to the largest wolf. He had giagantic, long, sharp claws, and his fangs were unusually long, peering out of his mouth, like a snake. He was to be feared, certainly. He was ruthless, vile... the word "Evil" could hardly describe him. Why was I here, watching them?... Because I was the smallest, I had been assigned to spy on them. They certainly didn't care. The others cared only about their pups and theirselves, but never for me. I was a runt, and I would stay a runt forever: always vulnerable. But, I kept on watching. "Here, Crow. You can have this." Ruckus threw over a lump of bloody prey. Crow nodded, but cautiously. "What's wrong, Crow?" A rough, femine voice said - Cally. Crow nibbled on the meat, and answered, "I smell something... another wolf. Can you smell it?..." A shiver went down my spine - as if an ice cube had dropped there. Afraid, I turned around, and ran. "There was something definately there. After it!" Growled Viper. My heart was beating wildly, and I could hear the soft thumps of my own pawsteps, but also of the others. I ran, but then I stopped. A huge log was blocking the way, and there was no way out.
If only I was bigger... I thought. I stood there and waited for my doom to come. But it didn't... and I heard some voices, and a small scream. "Let me go!" I perked my ears up.
Wha-?... Who was that? I thought. I heard pawsteps coming closer, and I did my best to hide myself in a patch of ferns. "You're going nowhere, you runt." Responded Viper, in a fearsome growl. "Not until you tell us why you spyed on us... and where you're from. And even then... I couldn't let you go." He was speaking to a pink pup... she looked like a dove to me, but yet she had intelligence in her eyes.
Could... could she be like me?... I thought. Crow let out a strange laugh, and followed them. I knew I had to go after them. I was stricken by love...
I followed them to their little "camp, and watched. "So... Let's get this nice and simple. We ask you questions. You tell us, We give you something in return. You refuse... and we do something to you. Now, let's start. What's your name?" Viper responded, in a soft, vile tone. The pup said, "My name is Dove. And I want-" Viper inturrupted, "Good. Now, Why were you spying on us, runt?" Dove glared at Viper. "I wasn't spying on you!" Viper snarled, "Yes you were!" He took a paw, and showed his claws, and put it against her neck. "Why were you spying on us?" He said in a growl. Dove tried to back away, but she couldn't. Panic-stricken, but driven by love, I bared my fangs, and leaped onto Viper, clawing him. "You... You... Deer-headed Git!" I snarled. The term "Deer-headed" meant that the wolf was very bland, and dull. It was also a term for a cruel wolf - it was an insult. Before Viper could throw me off, I bit his ear, and tore it off. I spat the blood out, and Viper shook me off. He turned around. "Well, well. Look who we have here. Another runt..." He let out a smile. "Runt? Well, you're the coward here. You're just want to hide with your little friends for protection here, don't ya?" Crow spat, "Well, you little hero, there's no way you can face against all four of us!" I responded calmly, "What did you say? I didn't hear you." I had a plan, alright. Crow yelled, "I said that you can't face all four of us, you runt!" I knew his voice was loud, and it shook the whole forest. I looked at the stone wall. It began to crumble, all the dirt going towards Ruckus, Crow, and Cally. Viper looked in shock, and I had enough time to push Dove out of the way. "Run. Run before they get you again, Dove." I said, looking into her eyes. She looked at me. "They can get me if they want. I'm staying with you. You were the reason I came here..." I looked in suprise. Dove murmured, "You're... a pps like me... And I thought I was the only one around... I can't leave you..." I looked at her. "I thought I was the only one as well..." Viper let out a snarl before I could say anything else, and I turned around. Huge rocks had piled up where Crow, Cally, and Ruckus had been. I knew they were dead. "You'll pay for this!" Growled Viper. He lunged at me. But I had one thing he didn't have - I had the power to love. "Watch your mouth, you little snake." I snarled, as I slashed at Viper's eyes. He let out a howl of pain. I had blinded him.... But that didn't stop him. He slashed at me, but I dodged it. I tore the other ear off, then, spat the blood. Suddenly, I heard another growl. Dove! She had slashed at Viper's side. She blinked at me, and I blinked back. We kept on fighting. I took a paw, and I slammed it with force against Viper's belly, and I dragged it to the side. Viper let out a howl of pain, and slumped to the ground. He was dead. I got off of him, and went over to Dove, immediately. "I love you, Dove... Even though I only saw you today, I knew I was in love..." Dove looked longingly at me. "I love you, too..." She murmured. And so, we set through the forest, leaving the past behind, and rebuilding everything with nothing but love.
