I think that zoos are great. Instead of bringing down populations, they can bring them up. They can breed endangered animals to bring it up. C: And zoos no longer have iron cages with animals stuck inside them. Or at least a lot of them don't. People are trying to stop the ones that still do. A lot of zoos have wide habitats similar to the one the animal originated from, where they are healthy and well cared for. That's just my opinion...

I used to think zoos are bad but now I am half and half. Sure I hate the idea of animals being in cages and think they are better in the wild but zoos are not completely bad.
Zoos are getting better now, we are learning more about what animals need to survive and many animals are happy.
Zoos do a lot of conservation. By law, in the UK anyway, a zoo has to do conservation to stop random people owning exotic animals.
They educate the public, many people who go out and actually see the animals tend to care a lot more than if they were sitting in front of a tv, they see the actual beauty of the animals.
They don't go out and just pull animals from the wild, they breed them. It is actually hard to breed exotic animals in captivity, it sounds easy but it's not as easy as putting a male and female together. Animals need to be happy and not stressed along with other needs.
I do think that zoos should not be allowed to feed live prey though. It's basically like animal baiting ( sticking two animals in a cage and letting them kill each-other ) well actually I think it might be. I know it's illegal is some countries. I also think that animals should only be kept in zoos if really needed, for example are endangered. I also think the enclosures should be big and the animals happiness and welfare is more important than the publics needs.
Sorry for my slow response time on RP's. My new job steals ALL my time. :(

I don't necessarily agree with keeping only endangered animals. The reason some of those animals are endangered (and some went extinct) is because of humans not appreciating them. I think we need to make sure to emphasize that ALL wildlife should be appreciated, respected and given space. Unfortunately, the only way to get that drilled into some people's brains is by having a diverse assortment of animals, including non-endangered, and saying to people 'this what is at risk if we don't shape up'
As far as feeding live animals, the only time I've ever known zoos to do that would in the herp (reptile) department. Some lizards and snakes absolutely refuse to eat anything that isn't live. So feeding even prekilled is out of the question. And no, it's not like livebaiting. The animals aren't thrown in together just so they can fight. The keepers aren't getting joy out of seeing something killed (hopefully). The predator has to be fed and if the only way is by feeding them a live animal, so be it and hope that the predator will kill it's prey quickly and efficiently.
"Only ignorance! Only ignorance! How can you talk about only ignorance? Don't you know that it is the worst thing in the world, next to wickedness? - and which does the most mischief, heaven only knows. If people can say 'Oh! I did not know, I did not mean any harm,' they think it is all right."

i think that zoo's are pretty cool. at least the one i visit (in vienna)
there's all sorts of animals with natural enclousers which is quite huge and i even saw squirells there just running across the road lol.
They have pandas there which succesfully mated and had a baby (Fu-hu i think?) and panda's wouldn't really mate and so if they wouldn't be content.

Zoos are good and bad....
Some are large and have great cages and treat the animals amzing. Other zoos can be awful and the animals are stressed and bored.
You can't say all zoos are good and you can't say all zoos are bad as there is an equal amount of oppinions and reasons. I think some small and bad zoos should be banned or expanded.

Zaj Wolf wrote:You know of zoos. They claim they protect animals, but in reality they don't. They just take endangered animals and put them in small cages. You think thye like it there? Alright. Set them free from the cage. They'd be trying to find a way out rather than stay there. They have no future in zoos. I went to the zoo last weekend. They put a LYNX in a rabbit hutch! The only way he can run is by running in small circles! And there was a zoo that had huskies instead of actual wolves. Last month or so, people broke into the zoo and killed two baby giraffes. Protection, eh? I call it prision.
Thats crule zoos should be banned well some zoos anyway
