The American Pit Bull Terrier (if this is the one you are referring to) isn't recognized in the AKC, only the UKC (:
The American Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier are recognized by the AKC, which are similar breeds. I honestly can't even tell the difference xD
