EmoKittehXD wrote:Remember how i was talking about my five gallon tank? i'm not so sure about the gallon thing anymore. i found a booklet stating its a 10-gallon hexagon, not 5. And i have a female betta and two snails

I was wondering if i could get another beta or two (female of course) to establish a pecking order like you said.

You can also use Jellys link. :)

Right now you only need to fill out the Main Aquarium section. Just pick your shape, select from the drop down menu and measure what it tells you to. :)
Lets see how many gallons the tank is before you add any bettas. I know there needs to be a certain size tank for betta sororities but Im not sure how much. If our betta expert sees this maybe they can help out. If not Ill do more research into it.

EmoKittehXD wrote:Oh and also, my small animal vet teacher took some of the fish because the ones in her pond had died. she cleaned it out and got rid of the bullfrog she found eating them, by releasing him into a river about a few miles away. she set up the pond again. Now i only have three comets in the 29-gallon, and they seem to perfer being away from each other versus schooling like they did before. I gave away 10 comets in all, and one died behind the stupid filter yesterday. Now i just have Ponyo, Mcgee, and Suzie. i think suzie is pregnant though. my dad put her into a different tank to want and make sure its not the swim bladder thing because her tummy is swollen. I didn't notice it until now. I think my teacher might have baby fish in her pond as well, so i told her. she's going to watch and let me know.

Hooray!! Congratulations for being responsible and giving them a good home. :) You are still over stocked in the 29 so keep up the frequent water changes. Jelly has already told you that goldfish dont get pregnant so I wont go into it a whole lot but If you put a mop head(clean and not used with chemicals) she will lay her eggs into that. Or plants will do as well. Then you can dispose of them since they wont be fertilized, they wont be alive. You can also feed them to your fish if you want. Its quite a violent act when goldfish spawn so make sure there is nothing in the tank she can get hurt on.

EmoKittehXD wrote:And also, back when i only had the yellow snail, i kept it in my 29 gallon. by itself with some goldfish. Why did it just sit above the waterline? I was afraid it died at one point. he was up, just sitting above the waterline... for an entire weekend before i realized it. i opened the lid and i almost got sick from the stench. he wasn't even inside his shell either! i took my fishnet and gave him a slight nudge. he dropped into the water immediately and floated there, before sinking to the bottom. Within an hour he started moving again. why did he do that? (this was before he went into my beta tank for being so lazy.)

Goldfish will eat just about anything. So if the goldfish saw it they could have harassed it to the point of it wanting to get out of there. Also high waste levels will make snails crawl out of the tank. So if that was the case then he would have wanted to get out as well.
As Jelly said if they are apple snails, the eggs will be really easy to remove. You scrape them off, freeze them overnight then throw away.
Fish are too fast for the snails to get on them. Even if the fish was sleeping(which is when a lot of plecos attack goldies) the fish would feel their antennae and move.

I tested my tank a while ago, like i said it was fine.

My tank is 11.83 gallons.
I will seperate the snails. Um... How many beta can i have in there now? i have one currently. shes very small. (ik no males)

Also, is there anyone here who can help with tank setup? i'd like to setup my other 40-something tank ASAP and I'd like to make it another tropical. There's a problem i'm having cleaning it, because my dad let the water sit for four months before i noticed it and syphoned it out. Its really disgusting, with dried gross stuff from the water. i have no idea what it is, but how do i safely clean it off... and also. i can't move the tank, so how will i clean it out.

Also, how do i know Mcgee and Ponyo wont fertilize them? i don't know their genders.

My dad normally helps my, and i've cleaned tanks out before but not to this extent.

How much does it cost to make a lid? i'm not to sure on the gallonage. Is there a thing like the one you guys gave me, (thanks by the way ^^) that does bowfronts? All i know is that its in thee neighbohrhood of 40-50 gallons, like my other bowfront with the shubunkin in.

You could put 5 in there so 4 more, just make sure to remove your female already in there and rearrange the tank and put them all in together so it looks new to her and she doesn't feel the need to defend her 'territory' to the 'intruders'.

You can clean the tank with water and vinegar, but make sure the sponge or what ever you use hasn't been used with any chemicals

You can clean the tank with water and vinegar just make sure the sponge or whatever hasn't been used with chemicals.

If you remove the eggs they won't hatch anyway and if you leave them then the fish will more then likely eat them

To get a rough estimate of the bow front messure the length of one of the sides then messure in the middle of the tank where the bow is from back to front then calculate the width to be half way between the two (hope that makes sense) then add this estimate aswell as the lenght and hight into a rectangular tank calculater,it won't be completely accurate though

I agree that 5 would be an acceptable number of females for your tank. Just make sure to monitor them closely for aggression. A few nips resulting in missing scales and ripped fins is fine, but if you see excessive damage then you'll need to separate the culprit.

Will bristle worms eat live snails? Also if mine is about 4" should I think about removing it before it gets too big? I know they're scavengers and aren't that harmful(unless they're fireworms) ad that they help clean the tank, but could they be eating my snails?

Apparently when they get big they can attack corals and fish so I would probably get rid if it
