The thing is doesn't really matter what you call them. I personally call them african wild dogs or African painted dogs. But they have so many names just for one mammal. The good thing is they don't have the bad reputation of the hyena, which is sad for the hyena because they can be quite sweet natured, but very feisty and sometimes viscious. But I get your point ;)

Has anyone got a african painted dog puppy yet? I have 17 but they still haven't grown XD

I think its more of a related to in this instance as to why some have called them steampunk. As the movement has grown lately and become more recognized it's become easy for some to just relate anything with gears or metalic parts as steampunk. Even some victorian things that have nothing to do with steam have been deemed "Steampunk". It's part of how a movement grows and is accepted by the public.

I've been calling them clockwork myself as I associate cogs with old clocks. ^-^

I hope there's only two variations of the butterflys as all of mine have turned now.
And I only have one of the african painted pups as of yet.

For mod knowledge: my sister -szanlil- and Mom -MommieOf2Angels- are also use the same computer, so yes, we do trade among each other. The same thing goes for my best friend kersten who doesn't have internet at home, so plays from mine or from the school (others may use those computers too), and her dorm pals. Thank you, for your hard work!

I also got four clockwork puppies and a bunch of the colour-shifter ones, but I gave up keeping track on those already...

Hm. I believe I saw the artist refer to them as "steampunk puppies" earlier/in another thread.
And I understand completely-- it's just disappointing when you spend a great deal of time researching something in order to portray it accurately, and come across someone who appears not to have bothered at all.
That being said-- how is that being "recognised" so much as "misinterpreted"? Once again, by people using their own perceptions of what it should be as far as they're concerned and not what it already is, because it's easier/less effort involved/etc.
As far as I'm concerned, they're geardogs-- no steampunk here. xD

The colour changing pups make me sadface, too-- I had really hoped we'd get some nice green dogs, not... Yellow/red dogs. I like green. Green is such an under-appreaciated colour.

The painted hunting dogs are somewhat pretty, however. And the bob-tailed grey/brown pups somewhat remind me of blue heelers... Wrong shade, but well, we'll see how they go. xD
I log in once or twice a month. Please be patient with me.

I would think that the artist referred to them as steampunk because other people had quickly deemed to so. Besides the presence of gears there was no other hint that it would or would not be so. Anyways the easiest part of steampunk to represent on such a pup would be gears and clocks *shrug* I personally like Ekiokitty's "clockwork" name better, after all it fits.
I'm not disappointed with them because they are, really, just what the blanket suggested they be--- clocks and gears >.<
Anyways I have an idea for where to put them in my groups already sooo~ I like (if not eventually love) them.

haha so these ripening pups have been making me and my friend paranoid that we are going to miss something with them. It's not really a rational fear but Moonflight has officially find a way to mess with our minds >.>

Omgawd! I just noticed where the wings are on the pup!

They are on his chest~ So cute!
