Any advice on keeping Mollies and good tank mates? I thought about getting Mollies before but never really looked into it after I found out that they need salt.

i gave two pairs of guppies to a friend who had a 50 gal. tall octogon tank (freshwater) and she had mollies and tetras and two itty bitty plecos also and one female guppy died so she had two males and one female and she put the female in a breeding trap and three of those babys looked just like their father a marble (black and white) molly and she gave me two of them when she took her tank down so have any of you guys had any experince with a cross bred fish?

I highly doubt the molly is the father. They are two different species and I doubt they are able to cross breed.

Actually apparently they can

I sleep at my fiances house on my nights off (i work overnights), and when i came home this morning, it was 59* in my room!!! My dog must have knocked the cord to the heater and it turned off =( I've cranked it back up to 80* but im worried for my fishies now =( the spawning tubs have heaters but the individual fish dont because my room is always at 80*. Im so mad! I just bought 2 new fishies, i hope they make it too! I feel like temperatures are my downfall right now =(

Ill post pictures later, gonna keep a close eye on my tanks for now. Fingers crossed that all pull through!

Eeek, I'm sorry Maniac Jay.. :( I've had my fish living in 56 degree water when we moved the first time, they had to sit in the car. They should be fine as long as it wasn't any juveniles or babies. O.o That sucks though, I know how much you were excited...

Sorry if I'm not posting often. I've got a few things going on in real life. I've also been having week-long migraines so bad that I cannot see. I hope everyone understands.

Just soak them in hot water if they're salted. If unsalted, you're set.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Fish are so interesting. That's cool. I think I may have to get mollies in the future...

Starve him for a day or two(you can give a pea to your shubukin as well) Take the peas in a bowl of tank water. Nuke them in the microwave for 15-20 sec or boil until they are really soft. Pinch off the skin and remove the little pit inside of it. You may need to cut up the pea and hand feed it piece by piece.
I do this with my goldfish weekly. I have to cut it up in small pieces and put in under the water line, it will slowly sink down to the bottem of the tank and they eat it. If he does not eat it then leave it over night or all day, depending on when you feed it. If it is still there the next day try again.

What is your water parameters(ammonia, nitrate.and nitrite)? How often do you do waterchanges on the tank? What do you normally feed?
Your 40 gallon is over stocked with your shubukin. They should be kept in a 50-55 gallon or a pond.

I feed my fancy goldfish a pea weekly to help prevent swim bladder. It's good for them. :)

alright, its 70* in my room and the fishies are back to normal. there is just one, the marble double tail that seems a little off still, so ill keep an eye on him, but everyone else is swimming around like normal. phew! my spawns are fine thankfully, id probably give up if those died in the same way as last ones =( but they are good!

and now, pictures of my new fishies =)

Anyone have any treat ideas for beta fish? Just looking to give my boy something special c:

ALSO:
Anyone know any hardy small fish that can fight off larger fish? I'd like to put some in my 15 gallon, but I'm 100% sure my big minnow will eat them. And does anyone have parent-convinving tricks? I'd like to move my wild fish to an 60-120 Gallon tank and put tropical fish in the 15, but I'm not allowed to have another fish tank.

like i said they are quite small and he will be staying there until he can go into my aunts pond this spring. i'm raising him for her for breeding. I am in progress of setting up my 29-gallon right now so i can move the shubunkin and or koi. they are both about four inches long and the plecostamus is about one inch.

i do water changes every other week, and i'm not sure about the parameters. last time i got it checked, a few weeks ago, the ammonia was slightly higher than it should be, and i did a partial water after that.

i feed him koi pellets, in all, for all the fish i normally give around 6, but i forgot to feed him two nights ago, due to family issues and stess (believe me, its not a normal occurence or else all my animals would be dead :( ) so i gave them eight last night.

The pellets contain

Crude protien min. 35%
Crude Fat min. 5%
Crude fiber max 4%
Moisture max 12%
Ash Max 10%
Poshphorus 0.8% min.

I can list all the ingrediants, but it will take a while. let me know if you want me to.

I lost my panda platy. :( No idea why. She was fine then a few hours later floating nose down on her side. She passed not much later. The rest of the tank seems perfectly fine, so here's hopeing it was a fluke!

In other news... FFRRYYY! http://i673.photobucket.com/albums/vv97 ... _12891.jpg My female krib is being a good momma. See that brownish smudge under her? ITS FFRRRYYY! xD

http://i673.photobucket.com/albums/vv97 ... _12621.jpg This ish Alaska. <3 My blue acara.

Once I get a heater for the 29 gallon I've decided to turn the 30 gallon into a cichlid-only tank and move my swordtail and platy (gonna get another girly) to the 29 gallon with the goldbarb school. I can't decide whether to keep my cory cats in the 30 gallon.. or also move them.. D:
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe
