"When's your lookout shift over?" Quinn asked, taking a seat on a patch of dead leaves, looking up at May-Lee. Rubbing the back of his neck, he added, "It would be better if we waited, but I guess we could go out and do something." Quinn set his elbows down on his knees, his forearms dangling forward.

Suddenly he wondered what it would be like up in that tree. It would be cool to see everything. Maybe even the beautiful lights of the city. Quinn frowned. No, it wasn't really a good idea. He was closer to the dead when he was on the ground. Continuing to look up at May-Lee, he waited for any suggestions or anything.

Riley's eyes snapped open at the sound of an engine starting, and she gave a sharp intake of breath. Her tongue rookies over her teeth. Ugh. Morning taste. Wait. Morning? Abruptly, Riley sat up, bumping her head on the car door. Her hair was a mess, and dark lines curved under her eyes. Riley knew she must of fallen asleep. She wondered how long she had been asleep. Was Gale mad at her? "Gale, I'm sorry."

The silence stretched out, thin and tense as a spider's thread until an idea fitted itself to May's mind. She jumped upwards into the air suddenly with an excited squeal, clapping her hands. "We could play hide-and-seek!!" She was practically the master of hide-and-seek: for one thing she was constantly bugging people to play it with her and for another she could glide through the air like a soundless swan, leaving no footprints, which made her much harder to track.
Anticipating his sceptical answer, May quickly hurried on. "I mean, it'll improve your tracking skills for when we next have to hunt and it's good if crazy police people try to hide in the woods to get us and it's fun too." Teh only point that really counted was the latter. Only a few Secrets were assigned to hunting when the food ran low (and they were usually the ones with über useful hunting powers) and the chances of 'crazy police people' hidin in the woods was practically zero. But hey, this girl wasn't taking no for an anwer. She grinned at him in a way that managed to be both cute and pleading, so much that it appeared saying no would destroy this innocen't girl's world.

Gale had been driving slower than he usually would, still in a half-awake trance-like state that resulted in him driving around a roundabout at least four times before taking a random exit. He was considering pulling over and seeing if there was any coffee left it his pack when he heard Riley stir beside him. She vaguely resembled a panda in the glance he shot at her, eyeliner ringing her eyes and mascara casting long shadow-like marks down her high cheekbones. Gale smoothed down his hair, gaze lingering on her, then turned back to the road. "It's fine, Riley." His body language suggested that it really wasn't okay in the slightest, but in all truth he was just tired and stressed and the dark lines looked scarily unhealthy against his tanned skin.
