Ah, the fuzzy brown algae is diatoms. Most algae-wating critters will chow down on it. Shrimp, snails, probably otos, too. How long do you leave the light on every day?

I leave the light on for about 10 hours a day.

Maybe try cutting it down to 8 hours. Diatoms grow pretty easy. Maybe you could also try an algae killing product. But diatoms are not harmful.

Hi guys! How are everyone's fish? Mine have been pretty good except for a few problems. All the Bettas are doing fine except for Blittz. His Popeyes went away for a while and then just recently it came back. I started him on meds again and I'm gonna try to have his water changes be more frequent. Dallas (the betta I had rescued about a month ago) has grown a lot! His fin rot is gone now and he is so pretty! He definitely got his second chance! But the betta fish tank lights are driving me crazy, they keep burning out and one of them actually burnt the top of the tank a little bit on Addison's tank. The goldfish/Pleco/khuli loach/snail tank is doing good. The Plecos are still getting along fine with each other and the goldfish. The Chocolate Albino Pleco, Zowie, is getting huge! But he still tolerates the goldfish very well. When he was younger he would try to bite them and I would scare him away and now it's been almost half year since and he never hurts them or even attempts to. We do need to get him a new rock though since he can't even fit inside of his old one now! My fish have all grown so much, that's why I live to take pictures of their change. My Telescope who started off white, then changed to blue, then to black, then to panda has turned white again! Pretty crazy. The cichlid tank had a few problems. The stand that holds it up broke out of nowhere. The tank isn't damaged though and all the fish are ok but the filter was making really loud noises so I unplugged it to avoid any electric shock. the light isn't working either. We ordered a new stand and until then the tank is behind a chair so the cat doesn't hurt them. They don't seem to mind much though because they were always shy. We had to replace the water when the tank fell because it spilled but luckily all the fish stayed inside. The community tank is doing good except one of the guppies, Jaguar, has gone missing. I know he didn't jump and I'm not sure what happened. Also my balloon molly Tawny has been having some floaty issues, the same as my past balloon molly Sorrel. Should I try to feed her sinking pellets? As for the puffs and bumble bee goby, the goby, Honey, is doing fine but the puffers don't seem to be eating and they are losing weight. I tried feeding them freeze dried medley and flakes but they won't eat.... I'm not us what to do.
"I try twice as hard and I'm half as liked, but here they come again to jack my style."
In real life I have 4 dogs, 3 cats, 2 rabbits, 26 rats, 2 gerbils, 2 cockroaches, 1 turtle, 1 axolotl, and 8 fish.

I am dealing with brown algae (diatoms) in my tank, too. I have increased water changes, reduced the amount of food each day, and scrubbed every decoration and wall. I just cleaned all the gravel today, as supposedly increasing substrate cleanings helps keep it under control. Nitrate levels seem fairly steady, but I need to get something to check phosphate levels. This stuff is going to drive me insane! I clean the whole tank, and it is all over the place again in a mere week!

In other news...pictures!

My doubletail halfmoon betta Crackle, in the community tank with the diatom problem. xD Not that he cares.

My four month old halfmoon plakat betta. He lives in his own tank, and there are no diatoms in THAT one. So I do not think it is the water source is the problem.

XD alright I have a question.

I have a new tank that I set up yesterday (its been a little over a day in terms of hours that it has been sitting. It is only 3 gallons and has a heater with the water at about 78-79F and live plant. I moved one of the plant ornaments from my established tank into the new one as well as taking water from my established tank for my new tank. I also added in a bacterial supplement. How long would you recommend I wait before I move a fish into it? It will just be 1 betta (the one who had been biting his fin). I think it would be ok to move him in today cause there was bacteria on the ornament and in the water as well as the supplement.

It takes time for bacteria to get established, even if you seed it with something that already has the bacteria. Make sure there is an ammonia source in the water, or your bacteria will die. You'll want to get a water test kit. Look for no ammonia, no nitrites, but some nitrates. Once you get those, your tank is ready for a fish. If you test it too soon, there will be no ammonia, no nitrates, and no nitrates. Those nitrates are the final step, so if you don't have them, your tank isn't cycled.

Yea I know all that stuff XD but figured that since I was putting already established stuff from my first tank into the second in there it might speed up the process a little. Well thanks anyway Ill just figure it out
