Ugh I was online and since the day of silence is mainly for schools, people seem to think you can't be bullied just as much out of school?!? I'm not in school, and I'm participating. It means a lot to me, and I really don't care what people say... I'll find a way to make it happen!

Don't let 'em get you down, Doctor! Of course you can be bullied, even more so sometimes, outside of school. It's just focused there because most youths in the country are in the school system in some way or another. Trust me, you can participate and support just as well, if not better without the restrictions, outside of school! You'll find a way to get it through and I'll be happy to help :3

Also... I wonder, since most people here are anti-gay etc.etc, And that's a fact, if they'll just think I'm crazy or mute or something?!? Just a possibility...

Are you part of the LGBT community?: Yes, I am bisexual (borderline lesbian) and have a girlfriend
Why would you like to participate/support this cause?: I have been judged by other people based on my sexuality, and I'm tired of them not trying to get to know me and my girlfriend for who we are (personality, etc.). Though all of my friends support us (as far as I know), I want to help end the hatred towards people who stray away from the norm, people who are not afraid to express themselves and be who they are inside.

It's almost that time again, the Day of Silence is practically around the corner, time goes by so fast huh? Last year was the first year I put anything about the DOS on Chickensmoothie and I was ecstatic about the amount of interest! This year, I plan to work harder to get the word around more, and not just here on Chickensmoothie.
I feel as though I need to say this though: the Day of Silence isn't easy. If you participate or support the DOS there's almost a guarantee that you will get some hate from people as homosexuality is something quite a few people still frown upon. The mission of those who set out and participate and support is not to change peoples minds about homosexuality but rather to make them see what one or two hateful words can add up to in a persons mind. It's about going silent for those who took their own lives, have been killed or are living in fear of being who they really are. It's about going silent for those who truly are silent, showing that there are shoulders out there that they can lean on. In summary, it's about stopping the bullying and the hate, not trying to force people to think that homosexuality isn't wrong to them.
So after all of that, I think it's about time I fire this topic back up, huh? Well then, lets do it! Post away with your forms, tell your friends, get the word out! Try and talk to your local GSA about bringing the DOS to your school or just to their attention. Lets see if we can beat those numbers from last year and make a booming difference this year!
