Just got back from getting my first fish for the tank. I ended up getting a Golden Barb who we named Spartacus, AKA Spar. He seems to like to hang out by the plant. I'm planning on maybe getting another one or two barbs next week or so if everything goes well.
I'll try to get a picture of Spar soon if I can.
I'm an old player from back in 2010 and really just on here to look for art
If you like any of the pets I have that are only uncommon/common if you send me a pun I'll almost certainly give them to you for free :)

Hey friends check out my adopts here : )
Ps- If i ever had any beef with any of you i am so, so sorry i was an arrogant jerk of a child who threw a fit whenever I didn't get my way

Golden barbs are really 20-30 gallon fish and need shoals of atleast 5. A shoal of 5 goldbarbs will completely max out your tank so once you get the rest your 10 gallon is fully stocked. =)

Hello! I just had a quick question, and I'd love if someone could help me with it.

We just got a beta fish on Sunday (he's so beautiful!) and along with him we got five ghost shrimp. The lady at PetSmart (yes, we bought a petsmart animal, I know) said that Barnabas was likely to eat the shrimp, but they would help keep a lesser amount of algae in the bowl so we got them anyway. If he doesn't eat them, because all he's done so far is challenge them (if that makes sense?), what do we feed them? The lady at the pet store was pretty sure we would have to get new shrimp in a couple of weeks so she didn't quite tell us how to care for the shrimp.

I hope that makes sense. Thank you for anyone who can help!

Should be fine. =) Dwarf Gourami are really interesting little fish and would make a great centerpiece. Other than tank size, their care is very similar to betta fish.

Generally Gourami can be kept in a male female ratio of 1:2-3, but to be honest unless you order offline you'll be hard-pressed to find a female as majority of gourami in the pet trade are male. A single male would be 100% fine, though.

If you are keeping them in a bowl without a filter or light there will be minimal algae growth and the regular water changes/ cleanings will remove any algae, your shrimp will not survive in that environment so I wouldn't recommend getting more, the shrimp will eat any left over food, your Betta may or may not try to eat them but they won't survive in a bowl anyway

@cardinal thanks so much :D

Bowls really are not suitable for fish. You really should have a filter and a heater, or at the very least a heater. Without a filter you should be doing atleast daily 50-75% water changes to keep waste down and ammonia in check. Have you read up on the Nitrogen cycle? If not, then do so.

The shrimp are unlikely to survive in an unfiltered and unheated environment, and are susceptible to become lunch. Excess algae is the surface of a much larger issues. Brown algae is low light coupled with high nitrates. Green algae is high lighting combined with excess nitrates. Neither of which are good.

Well my yellow angelfish must have died. I can't take it back to get a replacement, though, as there is no body. Kind of disturbing how fast dead things are devoured in that tank. You'd think I didn't feed them. :/
