Just curious if I'm the only one amazed/freaked out about this...
You know the ads on Chickensmoothie that are displayed above each post? Well I think it's kinda cool, but a little freaky, that they match the topic sometimes

For example, I was on a topic about gerbils and above there was an ad for hamster/gerbil cages...

Yeah, I think it has something to do with Google, they look at the words on the page and match it with an ad or something
I got a Wacom ad on a tablet page, whenever there's the word "dog" I get some pop-up pet bowl thing, and then everywhere I look there'll be a weightloss ad X3

My work here is done.
Thanks again to those who entered in my competition. I'll be off now. Have a nice life out there.

Search engines look for key words on every page and then choose the best add to fit for the topic. It's not just a coincidence, they do that for specific advertising purposes. ;] For example, you're searching for a online horse game such as Howrse. You may then find an ad for an online horse website game, such as my example of Howrse. (I've actually seen that ad come up many times for me.)

the weightloss ads usually come up if they can't find a suitable ad or just because weightloss ads are popular in general
but the rest really are targetted at you depending on what info is on the page you're reading (and is usually targetted at your location too, so if you're from NZ you get some NZ-relevant ads which other countries don't see... unfortunately, not many NZ companies pay for google ads so we get spammed all over the internet with the same annoying ads xD)
