If its a rare genetic trait then its a black bear, not a whole different species, right? And wouldn't that mean their would always be Spirit bears? I'm just wondering, not a hater or nothin', their beautiful, but not sure if the fact that they have protection and are simply a genetic defect it could be classified as a 'endagered species"

it is a genetic defect, but some people prefer to call spirit bears a different species of bear or even a subspecies of the black bear. It depends on where you stand in the whole species arguement. However, it is becoming less common to see then because of habitat loss and hunting.

I do agree with you, some bears can be bad, but most are innocent. the only reason they turn into bad bears really is because of humans getting too close or threatening them.

i like them a lot, i have read all 6 of the Seekers series(a series of bear books by Erin Hunter)! Bears are my favorite. Narwhals.llamas,alpacas and bears are the best!
