Riley sighed quietly, closing her eyes tighter. Great. They were stuck in traffic again. Riley's body was filling with lots of anxiety. "Yeah..... that was a dumb idea." She replied to Gale quietly, her voice shaking slightly. " I...... I don't know if they would or not....." A horrible thought crossed her mind again. Will they? What if they do?

Her heart pounded faster, and she tried to control her breathing. She imagined being stuffed into a police car and taken to jail. She sat on a stiff, uncomfortable bed as she stared at the dull gray walls. They felt like they were closing around her. Riley let out a small shriek as she realized she had fallen asleep. She opened her eyes and stared out the window. Everything was pitch black out there, except for the headlights of cars and the falling snow. She hoped that the man wouldn't find them.

Gale felt a bitter taste in his mouth as he heard her voice break a little, sensing that something inside her had broken, too. Wrong question. A very bad question to have asked when she was still probably adjusting to the whole we're-fugitives-and-we-need-to-get-out-the-state-or-possibly-country-yay thing.
The traffic wasn't going anywhere anytime soon and they would all probably be stuck in the jam until morning - to his relief and disgust - so Gale pulled down the handbrake and let the carf turn itself off. He left the heaters on and considered grabbing some food and blankets from the duffel bag in the back seat. Maybe the rifle, too ... or not, considering the panic attack the girl in the seat beside him was near having. At her muffled shriek his head whipped around, teal eyes wide in shock. "What is it?" He was leaning closer to her, searching her body for any minor injuries and only returning with a slightly scratched hand. His voice turned gentler. "Riley?"

Riley's darting eyes were wild with fear, like a bird's eyes after it had almost gotten killed. Her heartbeat was increasing, and she turned to Gale. Riley's mouth hung open, but she couldn't form words. She couldn't get that horrible image of the horrible, small, dirty gray cell, that was enclosed from the outside world. Her gaze met Gale's, which was full of worry and confusion. "I....... I........"

Riley's bottom lip quivered. She couldn't hold it in anymore. She let the tears stream down her face and her vision blurred. She didn't want to go back to that cell, the one where she stayed for a while.

She was accused of stealing drugs when she was only thirteen, and immediately put in jail, because a lot of people were always suspicious of her. It was terrible. She never got to see her friends or family for a long time. None of her friends treated her the same way, and they never talked to her. Riley hated being in jail.

She tried to push the memory away, but it only made her cry more. She grabbed Gale's hand and sqeezed it hard.

[ i am so, so sorry for not replying to this yet. my crummy signature basically explains it and i solemnly swear to have a reply up as soon as i'm better. the evil secrets idea is utterly epic and there should be a monument dedicated to the epicness of skrillex but i suppose a fan club shall have to do, yes. ]

Something inside Gale shattered into a million pieces as he saw the first sparkling silver tear trace it's way down Riley's cheek. Sonething was wrong: something moore than the ehole trauma of the situation. He could see it through the darkness in her eyes. Sonething was wrong and he had to do something about it. Leaning back momentarily to unlock his seatbelt, he released her hand and instead hugged her as close to him as he could. He didn't really notice that the traffic had moved forwards a little and the impatient people behind and infront of him were blaring their horns at something or other. All he did was hold her tightly and stroke her hair, murmuring soothingly about nothing in particular. She was so small that it felt like he was hugging his younger sister again and Gale tensed for a moment, his eyes darkening, before returning to stroking her hair.

The walls. They were closing in around her. They were going to squash her. Shadows were being cast on those cell walls, mocking her. Scaring her. Grabbing at her. A shudder coursed throughout her body and she gasped for air. Riley kept her eyes squeezed shut and tried not to think about those evil memories. Something closed around her, and she let out a muffled scream. The walls. They had gotten her. No...... it was Gale. Her body relaxed slightly when those powerful, protecting arms wrapped around her. She buried her face into Gale's warm chest while the sobs continued to consume her body. He smelled of cologne and sweat. She placed her hands on the back of his neck, a warm sensation flowing into her freezing hands. She was beginning to calm down, whispering "Gale........ walls......." from time to time.
