What about the Warrior Cats? Didn't they make those w/o copyright laws? As long as you don't DIRECTLY associate the designs with something I think you'd be ok. Like just a blue wolf with darker blue stripes instead of an "avatar" wolf. Not sure though...

I think loosely based ideas are good. Like we had the Coraline litter. They weren't replicas of the movies. Just inspired by the movie.

The problem is that they can't look like avatar designs, that'd be theft. They'd have to get permission.
Tess and Nick got in trouble for the warrior cats. They took them down because they would get sued otherwise. Even with credit, you cant use copyrighted ideas without permission.
