What you need to do is combine the first part of human legs, the thigh with a modified knee and shin. They still have a calf but instead of the ankle being on the ground (as it is in bears and humans) it's upright, like wolf or lion's. You have to understand the atonmy of human and animal legs. I like to use a horse's leg as an example.

The last joint above the hoof is the first toe joint. Now if you meld the horse and human leg together, you get this:
