Ooh I love duckweed! And yeah it's green algae. What's wrong with brown algae/how do you get them? I read tht algae gives goldfish their bold colours. Saw them regularly eating the stuff if I forget to feed them/attmpt to fast them. My pond is unstrategically placed where it gets lotsa light. And I keep finding algae floating on the top. I saw a vid showing a kid scrubbing algae with a scrubber. Can I make a homemade one?
Will corys go with goldfish?
Corys need different temperatures than goldfish do. Plus I think the corys might starve with goldfish unless you greatly over feed or hand feed them.
Brown algae means you have an excess of nitrates or not enough light or it shows up in new tanks that have been set up a few moths ago. I have it in my tank, a mix of not enough light and newly set up since I set up the 110 not that long ago. Its really ugly looking but manageable if I scrub it when I do my water changes.
You can make a homemade scrubber, just make sure the materials you use are fish friendly. (not treated with chemicals) I think it would just be easier to find one at a yard sale or a cheap one at the petstore.
You are correct. Algae helps goldfish have nice bright colors if they eat it.
To be honest, if it was my pond I would leave it unless you are overrun with it, only cleaning off the filters and equipment to make sure they don't get clogged.
I wish I had green algae in my tank. XD But its up to you, some people hate it. I used to play with it when I lived on my grandmas property as a child. She had a big Koi pond with a huge water fall that was at least 8' feet tall and the algae would accumulate on the water fall and I would play with it on the lower parts that I could reach. I came home with algae in my hair a lot, my mom would get really mad. XD
