I think I saw some java fern and anubias in my garden center.. Might check it out this weekend (lol if possible).

Ooh I love duckweed! And yeah it's green algae. What's wrong with brown algae/how do you get them? I read tht algae gives goldfish their bold colours. Saw them regularly eating the stuff if I forget to feed them/attmpt to fast them. My pond is unstrategically placed where it gets lotsa light. And I keep finding algae floating on the top. I saw a vid showing a kid scrubbing algae with a scrubber. Can I make a homemade one?

Will corys go with goldfish?

Corys need different temperatures than goldfish do. Plus I think the corys might starve with goldfish unless you greatly over feed or hand feed them.
Brown algae means you have an excess of nitrates or not enough light or it shows up in new tanks that have been set up a few moths ago. I have it in my tank, a mix of not enough light and newly set up since I set up the 110 not that long ago. Its really ugly looking but manageable if I scrub it when I do my water changes.
You can make a homemade scrubber, just make sure the materials you use are fish friendly. (not treated with chemicals) I think it would just be easier to find one at a yard sale or a cheap one at the petstore.
You are correct. Algae helps goldfish have nice bright colors if they eat it. :)
To be honest, if it was my pond I would leave it unless you are overrun with it, only cleaning off the filters and equipment to make sure they don't get clogged.
I wish I had green algae in my tank. XD But its up to you, some people hate it. I used to play with it when I lived on my grandmas property as a child. She had a big Koi pond with a huge water fall that was at least 8' feet tall and the algae would accumulate on the water fall and I would play with it on the lower parts that I could reach. I came home with algae in my hair a lot, my mom would get really mad. XD

Awesomness. May I have your grandma's pond? X3

I made a filter to filter the gunk that my fountain sucks up.. Cleaned it this noon, and I dd not believe what I found. There was like slimy stuff on the sponge! I believe it was algae, and when I dumped it on the rocks, it looked like paint. Yuck.

No, cory are tropical.

Actually, I have three healthy cores with my goldfish ^^ They've been in there for over two years.

@phantom
I wish I had that pond. We had to sell the place due to land taxes being so high. :(

What do you keep the temp at? While both can live at either temp it is not healthy for either fish, goldfish temp should not go over 70F. Corys need 76-80 I believe(correct me if im wrong cory peeps). It shortens their live span very much and will open them up to sickness and parasites.
You can keep a dog alive in a closet, but should you? No. Would he be happy? No. Each fish had certian needs that need to be cared for.
I can promise you they are not comfortable if Its higher than 70F.
Goldfish come from carp that live in coldwater rivers,lakes and ponds.
The temp for goldfish should be 65-70F unless you are treating for some sort of sickness.

So you either have one kind of fish that is not in its optimal environment: a cory in water that is too cold or goldfish that is in water that is too hot.
Alive doesn't necessarily mean healthy or thriving. Cories need tropical water temperatures between 76 and 82... Although like bettas, the perfect range is closer to 80. I keep mine at around 78.
Cories should also be kept in groups of 4 or 5 or more, as they are schooling fish. Just a little second thought in there.

They are healthy, they swim actively around (on the bottom and in the middle), play with the goldfish and each other, and have over doubled in size since I got them. My goldfish are healthy too. I think the temperature is about 72 degrees, but I haven't checked in a bit.

They will act healthy but it effects their immune system and makes them weak and more susceptible to dieases and sickness. You are free to keep your fish the way you want but please dont recommend it when it is known to cause health issues. ^^;
