Adam Baker
The Dead-Man-Walking

"From the lights to the pavement,
From the van to the floor,
From backstage to the doctor,
From the earth to the morgue."

It was raining. Hard. The fat water droplets pounded on the roof of the large caravan that Adam and the others had been crammed in. Normally they'd have more room, but one of the caravans had a broken wheel. It had to carry as little weight as possible until it was fixed. Adam was staring out of the window at the storm. The rain poured down, obscuring most of the landscape. It was impossible to tell where they were. He suspected Adler wanted it that way. It added to the "mystery."

Adam wrapped his long coat tighter around himself. He looked at the others and rubbed the back of his neck. He knew they'd be stopping soon. He dreaded going out in the rain. The only one who didn't seem to mind as much was Cordelia, but that was to be expected.
"We should probably get ready to run out into that mess," he murmured. Adler would want to set up if they were indeed stopping here before the storm ended. He let his statement hang in the air, but he didn't think anyone would respond to him.

He looked back outside. He wondered if he would be asked to scout ahead. He shuddered at the thought. The last town had been full of unfriendly policemen. The town had been having troubles with thieves and other hooligans. The police were rather paranoid and trigger happy. Suffice to say things didn't go well the last time he scouted ahead. The revolver he always kept in his pocket suddenly felt very heavy.

Jason Vinera
The Shadow

Jason listened to the pounding rain as he sat cramped with the body. He felt awkward and stiff stuffed it to the far back dark corner. His dark eyes were closed as he listened to the rain trying to stay away from the others. He sighed to himself as he thought of the others a bad taste coming to his dry mouth.

Jason felt a little better as he drew his coat hood farther over his head bowing his head to obscure his face nothing, but a shadow there. He could feel the uneasiness permeating from the others and decided to play with them. He also wanted to practice with his new found power wanting to get better.

Jason concentrated on The Dead Man Walking's shadow in the dim light of the caravan and narrowed his eyes. He concintrated hard as he tried to get it to move. He felt proud when it twitched slightly, but lost his concentration when the other spoke. He narrowed his eyes more and looked up half his face lit by the pale light. He saw the boy's shudder and rolled his eyes wondering why the guy who could never die worried so much.

The Musician

Alyce sat down neatly, with her knees tucked to her chest and let out a quiet sigh. The cold nipped at her neck and cheeks, so she pulled up the collar of her coat a bit higher. The cart was silent, except for Adam small comment. Everyone else was either staring into space or half asleep in the packed cart. Alyce had barely a inch to move and just kept her back to the wall and stared at her hands.

Soon minutes passed by and then an hour or more passed. Alyce couldn't take the silence no more, she just couldn't take the awkward silence of the room. Even though she wasn't up for talking or any socializing, she just begged for someone to talk or even tap the floor with their shoe, anything! The. She quickly took out a small harmonica from her coat pocket and held it to her lips. She hesitated for a bit but the light blew in the instrument. At first she just played a few random tunes and melodies until she settled for one song.

Cordelia Nerin
The Mermaid

Cordelia looked out of the back of the cart. She smiled listening to the rain. She reached her hand out to try and feel the rain. When a raindrop hit her hand she smiled. Cordelia leaned back against the edge of the cart looking at the road that they were on. She wondered where they were going and how much longer until they were there. She was dying for a bath, and some time to spend alone.
Cordelia started to doze off to sleep when the silence, and her sleep, was disturbed by Adam's comment. Cordelia's eyelids flew open as she listened to Adam. She nodded in agreement, then watched as Jayson started to play with Adam's shadow. She shuddered as she thought of how that must feel, not wanting to feel it herself. He thoughts were distracted by Alyce playing on her harmonica. Cordelia tilted her head back as she listened to Alyce play. She loved when she played, sounding so perfect and harmonized. Cordelia pulled her hair to one side, revealing her slits in her neck on the left side. She sighed as the coolness of the air touched her skin.

Adam glanced down at his shadow, thinking that for perhaps a moment it had moved. But by the time his eyes landed on it, it was still again. He ignored it. It was probably just Jason fooling around. He listened quietly as Alyce played a slightly mournful sounding tune on her harmonica. He usually didn't like harmonicas, but at usual Alyce had managed to make it sound beautiful. She could make blowing on a piece of paper sound beautiful if she tried. It was such a nice, ordinary power. If she wanted to escape here, she'd never be labeled a freak, just gifted.

He jumped as the caravan lurched to a stop. Lovely. Time to go out in the rain.
There was a click as the door was unlocked. The roaring sound of the rain poured into the caravan as the door opened. Standing outside was Sir Adler of course. Water streamed off his long cloak and black top hat. He didn't seem the least bit disturbed by the rain. He was quiet for a few tense seconds before he spoke,
"Well? Get up! We have tents to put up! This rain won't last forever! Adam! Jason! Take a look around and make sure we're not being watched. The rest of you get the tents up. The sooner you do it, the quicker you'll be out of the rain. In that field over there. Go," he snapped before turning and going back to the front of the caravan.

Adam glanced at Jason and motioned at the door with his eyes. He stood up and jumped out the door and into the rain. He put his coat collar up against the wind, but water still managed to snake its way down his back. He frowned as his hair was quickly soaked. He looked back at the caravan, waiting for Jason to join him.

Alyce Gaver
The Musician

The cart door whipped open, revealing Sir Adler. He order Jason and Adam to scope out the area, making sure that no one was watching. Then he ordered the others to sent up the tents. She quickly shot up from where she sat and rushed out of the cart, following the others. As the guys set up the towering poles that kept the tent up, she and the others started to stake and tie down the cloth walls of the tent. She placed a stake carefully on top of the rocky terrain and hit it forcibly with her mallet. It dug into the earth and then she grasped the rope in her hands. The cold winds of the storm blew her hair violently. She quickly tied the belt of her coat tighter around her and fiddled with the rope to have it wrap around the stake. She fumbled with the bloody thing until she had it wrapped around the stake nicely, only to have the wind blow it out of her hands and into the air. She stood up and tried to retrieve the rope, but the wind blew it in all type of directions, having her run place to place.
