The Beginners Guide to Butterfly Wolves

This guide is meant to help any new members to CS to better understand what Butterfly Wolves are, how they grow and where to get them.

Butterfly Wolves are normally a monthly adoptable. They are very easy to distinguish between other pets because of their very large Butterfly Wings and long tails.

When you adopt them, they begin life as a little Caterpillar. After several days, the Caterpillar will then turn into a Cocoon, which then turns into a full grown Butterfly Wolf after several more days.



Unlike the 2nd Gens, where the same blanket turns into the same dog, Caterpillars do not always turn into the same Butterfly Wolf. In 2008, you were able to adopt 8 different butterfly wolves. These have now been retired, and are no longer available to adopt, but when they were, they were considered extremely common from mass adoptions, and hardly useful for trading. Now though, the butterfly wolves are not as easy to come by.

Tess originally created them when she opened CS in June 2008 and they stuck around till late August 2009. These Butterfly Wolves are most commonly referred to as the "Front-Page B-wolves" as they were available for almost two years. (e.g. Red Front-page Butterfly Wolf, Teal Front-page Butterfly Wolf, etc.).









December 2008

When the Advent calender was first introduced in December of 2008, as a celebration for Christmas, Tess made 2 lovely butterfly wolves in celebration. They were released on the second day of the Advent Calender with a time limit of 24 hours. But, not to worry as they were again released in the 2009 Advent Calender. The Red and white bwolf is called the "Candy Cane Bwolf" while the blue one goes by "Snowflake bwolf".



Awaiting the 18th of December was a Butterfly Wolf that Tess made but hadn't released yet. This pet is the rarest B-wolf on CS with an "OMG So Rare" tag. It was released on the 18th of December 2008 and 2009 and you had a slim chance of adopting one, along with many re-releases of other pets. It is known as the "Unreleased Butterfly Wolf" or "UR B-wolf" for short. The special pets that are "Unreleased" are those that were never actually released as regular pets, but that were released on December 18th, and never at any other time and only available for one day per year.




2009 Specials

Throughout 2009, we had special butterfly wolves. Some were to celebrate birthdays, others to celebrate holidays. They were normally only available for a limited amount of time, instead of a month like regular adoptables. When Halloween came around, you could go hunting for candy, and then exchange the candy for the two butterfly wolves below. They did not grow, and neither did the Christmas Bwolf, which was available on the last day of the advent calender for 2009.






March brought about our first monthly Butterfly Wolf release, with a special twist ;) . . . The caterpillar turned into two different butterfly wolves. They were made by the lovely Sorren Fey and are commonly referred to as Name unknown. Both are uncommon, but the blue/white coloured outcome is harder to come by.

This litter, created by Sorren Fey, is commonly referred to as the 'Bugs' due to the fact that their based off of certain bugs. The Bee Butterfly wolf has recently just had children, and is currently the rarest of the three.

Hatched from the same caterpillar, including the PPS, this litter is commonly referred to as 'Poison Dart Frogs.' Moonflight was the artist behind these butterfly wolves. The PPS Cocoon is considered the rarest of this litter, but the Strawberry Poison Dart Frog Butterfly Wolf was the rarest of the butterfly's.

June brought two butterfly wolf litters. The first litter was made by Shima.Luan and contains the second rarest butterfly wolf on CS. The Notorious Dark Pink Shima Butterfly. It is worth approximately an August 2008 pet and its beauty makes it even more appealing. It is a beautiful addition to anyone's collection. The litter as a whole was just plainly named "Shima Butterfly's" . . .

The Second litter was created by Retired Artist Mausoleum, who was named "Rosepose" at the time. A very simple design, but the flower crowns on both outcomes makes it a lovely litter and the object of many a hoarders eye. Rose Bwolves, as their named, only had two outcomes, the Tan Rose Bwolf and Blue Rose Bwolf.

Sorren Fey released another "themed" litter in July 2009. The earthy toned caterpillar turned into 4 different African Animals. All various forms of Bovines, these butterfly wolves are a representation of the Bongo, Gemsbok, Blue Wildebeest and Springbok. While all the outcomes are now rare, the Gemsbok and Springbok are considered more "uncommon". There isn't an official name for the litter as a whole, but a few users consider them to be the "African Bwolves".

A rather swirly litter was created by Sorren Fey. The "Emerald" outcome is considered to be much rarer than its siblings, and even now is sometimes hard to obtain. The litter is usually named the "August Swirl Bwolves"

The "September Retro Bwolves" came as a relief after the last few months of so many rare outcomes. Simple in design, and having a rather 70's look to them, were easy to obtain as both outcomes had the same rarity chance. Sorren Fey created these two lovely butterfly wolves :)

Shima.Luan released two very similar caterpillars this month, and both caterpillars had two adult outcomes who were both very common. They are still common now, even after almost a year later. The spotted Caterpillar is commonly referred to as the "Leopard Spot" and the other is aptly named "Striped"

As it was with last month, Shima.Luan designed two more bwolf litters for the month of November. The first kinda has no name, but November "jungle" litter, was a name I once saw. Both outcomes had the same rarity and are still fairly common.

The second litter has a few names. "Shima River Litter", "Shima water swirls", "Ocean Bwolves" etc.
The light blue outcome was considered to be the more uncommon of the litter. All three outcomes are considered easy to acquire.

Along with the advent calender, December of 2009 brought about a normal monthly litter, with another caterpillar by Shima.Luan. Called the "Rave Bwolves", these 4 outcomes were a nice touch to the festivities :). . . The light green one was considered the most uncommon of the bunch, but all the rarity tags of this litter are currently uncommon.

Specials 2010

A new year, new pets, and an old birthday. Moonflights butterfly wolf is the first special for 2010 :)



Halloween brought two new specials to the year :) . . . Spooky no? :D



The Advent Calender always manages to surprise and excite us :)



January 2010

As the new year began with explosions in the sky, CS started off relatively quietly. The first litter was released by Sorren Fey. A very delicate and sweet litter that became known as the Dreamcatcher or Lace B-wolves.



Next, Shima.Luan released a Plushie set, and we were given a first. A butterfly wolf, without the wings :O . . . Both litters are still fairly common.




February 2010
This month brought just one litter, something different from Guest Artist Mausoleum. A Techno/Swirl feel came with these pets and, as far as I know, they are called the "Maus/Cyber Bwolves" . . . I could be wrong.




March 2010
March was a simple month. And a lovely simple litter came with it :) . . . Sorren Fey's Grungy/Dirt/Soil litter is still common and easy to come by, and with its lovely, yet simple design, many people are still seeking it.



April 2010
Another two outcome litter for April. But this one wont soon be forgotten. This particular litter, with its pastel colours and sweet swirls was an instant favorite. With its Fairy/Cotton Candy looks, it was soon nicknamed as such. But it also goes by the name of Pastel, which is a very common name for many different litters. Sorren Fey again brought this beautiful litter to us.





May 2010
Sorren Fey was getting into the Summer Season early with a Beautiful Hawaiian themed Litter. The name of "Hawaiian" or "Honolulu Flower" litter stuck, and though still common, these bwolves are still sought after.




June 2010
Another CS First. 2nd Gen Butterfly wolves. They can be found here. Shima.Luan also released a very lovely litter. Cherry Blossom Bwolves.


July 2010
A very messy month was July. A splattery, splotchy, paint litter was released by Shima.Luan. 7 outcomes and all are still easily obtainable. The Paint Litter was a member favorite :)



Shima.Luan, the busy bee that she is, released a very Sparkley litter for July. A common litter and very beautiful :)




August 2010
August brought three lovely litters. One by Guest Artist BoquetBlu. And two by the lovely Sorren Fey. BouquetBlu's litter was very delicate, almost breakable, and so they were named the "China/Porcelain Bwolf Set" . . . Each outcome is easy to trade for.



Sorren Fey's Red Swirl litter is simply divine. Delicate swirls on the body, with new black and red wings. The nickname "Blood Wolves" seemed too dark for this litter, but "Red Swirl" seemed to stick the most.



A sweet stripe litter. Very sweet designs and common outcomes make this litter a must have for you collection. Sorren Fey knows how to please the members of CS with her brilliant designs.



September 2010
Just two very sweet litters for September. Moonflight's litter was based on some snails, and Shima.Luan released another swirl litter, with one of her designs being similar to her 2nd Gen Pastec, but it was beautifully made.






October 2010
October was a big part of the year with the CS Halloween event, but we also had two stunning litters, both released by sorren fey.






November 2010
November was a stunning month. We had two pink and purple themed butterfly wolf litters. Sorren Fey's very Fairyish litter was a big success, and DisabledLlama's "Chupagonia" litter came across spectacularly.







December 2010
Snow covers the ground at this time of the year, and what better fitting litter than a snowflake 2nd Gen pairing





Specials 2011

For the first time ever, CS celebrated the Chinese New Year, and Tyr made a very sweet dragon inspired litter



January 2011
Once again, another year has come and gone. To start off we were given a stripey litter from Sorren Fey and a very spacey litter from Tyr :)






February 2011
BouquetBlu graced us with a very sparkly, and fairyesque litter for this month :)




March 2011
BouquetBlu produced another stunning litter this month, that was almost the complete opposite of her fantasy litter from February. The wings gave off a "stained glass" feel and many people really enjoyed this litter :)



April 2011
Another stunning Bouquet litter. This one had a stained glass/henna feel, hence the name :)



May 2011
May brought as a different style of design from BouquetBlu with her Town-esque litter.



June 2011
This bright and delightful litter, was given to us by Ricorn in June. Its scratch-boardish look was quite a hit.



July 2011
July brought a lovely spring inspired litter from Ricorn. The colours and the leaf wings went down really well in the Chicken Smoothie Community. To contrast this bright litter, BouquetBlu had given us a dark, thorny litter.




August 2011
Leurai and Bouquet brought two very beautiful, and different litters in August 2011. Leurai's litter, nicknamed "Cucumber" because of the resemblance in its caterpillar form, stuck right throughout the month. BouquetBlu's pink, spotted litter was a beautiful contrast.




September 2011
DisabledLlama released a very swirly and semi-dark litter. The deep colours and beautifully drawn swirls made it a favourite of many individuals. Ricorns chocolate-y litter was a big hit with its delicious lines and spots.




October 2011
Leurai's single butterfly wolf litter was a stunning concept, with the swirl wings and the tribal-esque markings.



November 2011
Two litters for this month, and they were a massive hit. Leurai's almost Lullaby-ish litter was beautifully well done, and she brought back her swirl wings for the litter. Ricorns litter brought together gorgeous soft colours, with a soft spotted and striped design.




December 2011
The last monthly litter of the year, was simple but beautifully done. Leurai gave us a gorgeous wintry scene with her stunning ability to edit the butterfly wings so amazingly, and it was a delightful hit, even tho it contained no bright colours.
