I am thinking that I may have to move my very large-finned half moon Skye to a smaller tank on his own (I think it is just too big for him and he has trouble I think with his heavy fins) does anyone know of any good kits you can buy for 3.5-5 gallons?

I don't really want anything smaller (2-2.5 is the smallest I would go and even then that is too small in my opinion) ideally with a filter or heater, + or - a hood and light ^^ Something I could pick up at petsmart or something like that would be best; we have very few pet stores around here XDD

What is he having trouble with? It could be the filter output is too strog for him or something wrong medically. If you got a smaller you would still have a water flow problem if that is the case, it would be worse in a smaller tank.

Well I wondered if it was that too, but he is on the far side of the tank from the filter and the filter is baffled; my other half moon has much smaller fins and is lighter and is acutally in the same section as the filter and has absolutely no trouble swimming around ^^

You have some issues with your goldfish tank. Goldfish are coldwater fish and Cory catfish are tropical fish. They both need diffrent temperatures.

@ kitty then it might be a medical issue or he is just more sensitive to water flow. You may need to put filter floss near the output, I do that in my goldfish tank to slow down the water flow, if you feel you still need a smaller tank I would go with a 5 gallon. I Use a marina sS10 filter on my 5 gallon tank with my betta. The flow is really nice and slow. You could also use a sponge filter but you would need to cycle both before you add them.

I have a bowl with my betta HM in a filterless and heaterless bowl. I keep it as clean as possible, have some small rocks (not gravel) in it, and clean it every other day or so. Should I put him a tank or something? Every morining I put him outside in the sun, and put him back in like noon or afternoon. Is that enough sun? Cos the sun comes up at seven,woah not seven it's already high up by then. Maybe six or six-thirty ish. And since it's hot here, the water's generally around 29*C-30*C. Natural temp, right?

I so badly want the new-found Betta! The beauty from Thailand!

Tanks are a lot better for fish. I recommend you get one.
You really should have a filter to help break down the waste. How do you wash the gravel?
They should really have stab le temp always and since the water cools down when you bring him in you are stressing him out.

Possibly, but I doubt disease, he is very active when I go in and is eating, still brightly coloured and doesn't have an inflamation around the gills or shredding of his fins or anything. I think that the tank may be too tall for him; it would be like swimming around in deep water in all your clothes, you get dragged slower than if you were lighter. So I was thinking perhaps a little bit of a shallower tank might help the poor guy out XD Yea I was thinking there is a 5 gallon tank at the petsmart near me that I may look at picking up just for him <3 lol

Bowls are a little hard cause you have less air-water contact; but if you clean it regularly he shouldn't die because he is kept there... how many gallons are there? Many people don't think a betta should be kept in anything less than 2 gallons (smaller than that is kinda like being stuffed in a closet and having to live in it)
If you can guarentee that the water stays around that temperature it's ok, but if you can't you should get a heater; there are lots that aren't too expensive and fit smaller tank sizes. Water temperature can drop 8+ degrees overnight and this can kill a betta as they are sensative to heat changes so you want to avoid this ^^ Many heaters come with an auto-off function so it might not be on during the day but keep the water warm at night (I know thats what my heater does lol)

Tanks are a lot better for fish. I recommend you get one.
