What a wonderful thread! I completely agree with you.

Also, perhaps you could add something about one-on-one roleplaying, as this is considered spam as well.

Kamaliah wrote:~Saying hello or hi
Announcing your arrival (or departure) is unnecessary. When you post a response, everyone will know that you are, in fact, there. There is no need for an announcement

this annoys me so much, it's especially common in threads like the furry topic or the otherkin thread where it's sort of a community forming in those topics so people feel the need to say hello to someone if they see them post, or tell people they're there, etc.

I don't know why it's so hard to just PM someone if you want to say hello to them :c

I agree fully Tess :C

I've drifted greatly from both of those threads, part of the reason being spam. It irks me to no end. I'm just glad I don't have to sift through it all the time. That must suck like a tick :C

I don't understand why general chatting isn't allowed on a "forum", especially if 9/10 of the time everyone IS on topic. I thought CS was supposed to be a friendly community-esque sort of thing, since everyone is here for the same reason- guess not. This thread just makes me feel like I need to stay off of the forums to keep people who dislike chatting happy.
Feel free to call me Mo, Moki, or any other variation of my username you can think of. (:

Forums are for discussing the posted topics. You can chat all you want if it's on topic, but when people start talking about feeding their dog on a topic about CS pets or something, it's not necessary and ads nothing to conversation.
Chat rooms are for idle, off-topic chat, forums are for relevant discussion

the point is that if a topic is about, say, furrys, and then someone posts about their math homework, it is nothing to do with the topic so it is spam. If you find a topic about homework then fine, post away

there's just no point in having a forum with organised boards and seperate topics if people talk about anything they want within one topic, might just as well go to a general chatroom where there is no organisation

as for general chat between talking on topic and not, e.g 'hi im back from school whats been happening in here?' 'welcome back!' etc, all it does is create MORE pages of posts for people to sift through to find the info they need, which means it takes people even longer to catch up on what they've missed etc, and really large topics create a drain on the server which means they eventually get asked to create a new topic (which isn't really ideal for anyone)

if you have a bud you want to talk to, it's just as easy (and more personal) to PM them

You're always so much better at explaining than I am ID
But yes, that's exactly why people get in trouble for spam. And the reason I encourage the addition of a Xat-chat for more spammy topics, especially those with groups of people who like to chat. It would take such a load off the server and mods to use it rather than chat on the topic and eliminates the "but we all want to talk" excuse =3

I've decided to allow 1x1 roleplay topics to exist seeing as the member inbox limit isn't really high enough to support a bunch of 1x1 RPs as people have said
