As you are inspecting it, a large screech pierces the silence. You see a large blue and green bird. As it lands, you see how its talons slide into the talon-prints. Seeing it more closely, you realize that you are seeing a phoenix. A voice purred into your head:
Hello stranger. You have wandered into the Moon Phoenix Territory. You have found us, and you may choose "adopt" as you humans say, or wait until the full moon gives you the ability to customize an egg. We will see.

Moon Phoenixes are born from the moon. Legend has it that a falling moonstone that came from the moon create dthe first Phoenix. They live on the Monrovia peaks, but will migrate occasionally to cold peaks for breeding. They are a vibrant species, so there will never be a black phoenix. It's coloring may be black, but it's body will never be pure black. They are a social species, and love to make friends. When you adopt one, they will bond with you. Your phoenix will protect you with their life. They are about as big as a human.
