Good news! Yay! I think one of my koi is pregnant! A few days ago I watched my fish chase her around the pond. Last year, the same thing happened to my last set of fish (we gave them to a neighbor when we had to follow my dad). A few days/week later, she gave birth! Sadly I had no idea what to do with them, so my turtle and fish presumably ate them -.-
I can't copy the question form, but my question is how do I tell if my fish is pregnant and what do I do until-when-after she gives birth?
Thank you! Luffyuguys
Actually your koi fish is gravid. The females lay eggs and the males fertilize them. If you don't want to keep them just wait until the female lays they eggs and scoop them out, either feed them to your other fish or let them dry out if you don't want to keep them. I know it sounds cruel but the eggs cannot feel anything since they have not begun to develop and if you dispose of them there is a chance of them surviving and becoming an invasive species.
Ah. What does gravid and invasive mean?
And. My fish are common goldies. Nowonder they were so cheap. But luffable!
And. I want to keep my eggs. I was thinking about putting the eggs in a I think five or eight gallon tote. But my girl ain't laying tem. I thought about squeezing them out by hand, but I don't know how and I'm worried it could potentialy kill her.
What. Do I do? About getting the eggs out, hatching them, feeding them... And how big do they have to be until I can put them with my other fish?
Remember. They are common goldfish, a catfish, and a killer barb. Lool.

I was looking on my old camera at pics of my fish from last year and omg they were so small! Cagney (my BN) was the size of a marble! He is now the size of my hand! I didn't even know he was in the picture until I zoomed in really far! My chocolate albino Pleco was the size of my finger! Now he is almost as big as my little puppy! I can't believe how much they've all grown and changed!

Gravid means full of eggs. Invasive is an animal or plant that breeds and takes over the environment they are put into but are not native there.
Do not squeeze. Squeezing should only be done by experienced keepers who have been trained how to do it.
How many gallons is your pond? How many fish are in there? How big is the biggest fish? You would need a 5 gallon when they are eggs then a small kiddie pool or big tank as they grow. Along with filters and the right food to give them. Its the same as keeping an adult fish except you wait until their mouths develop. Remember, you will need to provide them with the same stocking rules as your adult fish. They can make anywhere from 15-30 eggs. If you are already over stocked then I recommended you don't do it. Unless you give or sell the babies away.
If she is not dropping the eggs then she might not be gravid and something might be wrong or she is not ready yet. Look at your other goldfish, if you see males with white dots on their pectoral fins and gills those are breeding stars and those are males.
http://www.petcaregt.com/fishcare/How-do-gold-fish-lay-eggs.htmlWhat time of the year is it where you are at? They usually spawn during the spring/summer months. If its winter there may be something wrong with the fish. Is just one fish round or a few of them?

gravid fish lay eggs then the male fertilises them after they have been layed to technicly they cant be pregnant
invasive is a non-native animal being brought into a place it doesnt usually live which could potentially kill-off or compeat with the native species in that area
dont squeeze them out they wont be fertilised(which means they wont hatch anyway) and it
will harm her

How many tanks do you have: I just moved into a new house and I have about 8 fish tanks but only a built in 200 gallon fish tank that is filled with turtles active right now.
Type of fish that you have:I am getting lots of guppies.
Your fish's names:I name my fish Zeus, Avatar and Cherry.
How long have you had fish:I just lost my fish when I move but had them for about 6 years.
Also if you have pictures of you fish we would love to put a link to them next to your name! If you have a tank with a lot of fish you are welcome to just put a picture of your tank. Please do not post the pictures on the actual forum since they do take up space; just the link will do!
I will take a video of my fish tank and post it on Youtube later and give you all the link. I do not have a basic camera it is at my old house sadly.
Please excuse my horrible spelling and punctuation mistakes.

I swear my physics, chemistry, and math professors are all conspiring to drive me insane with homework! O_O
Guess who go guppy fry! My female who I thought was going to explode started giving birth last night while I was asleep. I only saw 4 this morning. Some may have gotten sucked up in the filter, eaten by the other fish, or are smart enough to hid in the tall grass I have in there. I'll be doing some tank switching/redecorating/stuffs tonight so I'll hopefully get an accurate count then

^-^ I have a halfmoon betta fish(male) named Moon Unit(don't ask o.e).
At the moment his bowl has a very slow(it is not evaporation) leak in the bottom. Very slow as in a couple inches every 3-4 days. I fill it up with room temp water(we have water from a well so it's all natural, no flouride or anything that could be harmful...) every now and then. And it's only 2 gallons, so I want to get him a five gallon TANK this time... ^-^
