I was in someone's house today and they had a comet goldfish in a ten gallon half full. I wanted to ask if I could have it because he didn't look like he was being taken care of, but I didn't. I could of put him in a 75 gallon pond by himself. He was so pretty, and I'm the type that doesn't like comets.

Thats pretty terrible. :/

Errgghh.. I need to do water changes something fierce. Its been like 3 weeks since my last ones. >_> Now, before I get flamed, they are all planted tanks so its not that big of an issue. My nitrates stay pretty stable and low.

Also.. My goodness my plants in the 10 gallon have taken off. I switched out the lights and now have 2 25watt lights.. So 50watts for a 10 gallon is considered high-lightening. You want atleast 1 watt per gallon. Mwahaha. My plants are LOVING it and have grown over 3 inches in the last week and a half.
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe

I was not able to do mine for two weeks when I was sick. I dumped some prime in and went back to feeling like poo. I wish I had some plants in there to help me at the time. Im actually considering putting some land plants in baskets to hang in the tank. I just gotta figure out what ones I wanna use.

@vanilla
Awww. I would have asked for him. He would have loved that pond.

Edit:
So my parents had some left over laminate after doing the laundry room floor and I thought it looked kinda neat. So I put it behind my tank.
Im not entirely sure if Im going to keep it yet. What do yall think?

Title: Carassius auratus - Not Just Feeder Fish!

Goldfish are just as beautiful,
As the cichlids that my friends rave.
So why do they make fun of me,
Just cuz they are my fave?
Some may just be comets,
While others are quite rare.
To scoff at the whole lot of them,
I don't think this is fair.
They say goldfish are just feeders-
Not like their beloved haps.
My fish are pets, have character,
Theirs just swim in laps.

Are they jealous that my breed
Have colors just as bright?
My ranchus don't need heaters,
To keep them warm at night!

So maybe there aren't orandas
That come in violet or blue.
In the coming generations,
Who knows if this stays true?
They are just as striking
In orange and white, I think.
They don't need to come in colors,
Like purple, green or pink.

Some they have great headgrowth,
While others, they do not.
Theirs might have a little stripe,
And some just have a dot.

Some have eyes with tassels,
And some gaze to the sky.
The cichlids lay eggs too,
Big deal - they tend their fry.
Mine have laid their little eggs
And theirs, as well, have spawn.
But when the great big heater fails-
All of theirs are gone.

We use the exact same filters,
Tanks, and what-have-you.
In their house they raise the bugs,
While I just don't have to.
Mine get along just fine
With pellets, peas and zucchini,
While they are hatching brine shrimp-
I'm in my bikini!
I feed them the pellets,
The bloodworms and the flakes.
My fish are just as cared for,
Of this, make no mistake.

I don't see cichlids in varieties,
Like the goldfish I have seen.
Like the shubunkin and the dragonback,
And some of theirs are mean.
White bodies and a bright red cap,
How incredible is that?
How could you not love a fish,
So egg-shaped and so fat!

I adore the goldfish
Of them I'm very fond,
And I don't see my friends,
Putting Oscars in a pond!

A very ancient art,
In China they are raised.
In the club where I belong,
I am always hazed.
I don't think this is right.
How can this all be true?
If only they would get a life
And also get a clue!

Being sacred in their land
The Chinese can attest,
With tails that fan and eyes that bulge,
The goldfish is the best.

Good news! Yay! I think one of my koi is pregnant! A few days ago I watched my fish chase her around the pond. Last year, the same thing happened to my last set of fish (we gave them to a neighbor when we had to follow my dad). A few days/week later, she gave birth! Sadly I had no idea what to do with them, so my turtle and fish presumably ate them -.-

I can't copy the question form, but my question is how do I tell if my fish is pregnant and what do I do until-when-after she gives birth?

Thank you! Luffyuguys

Actually your koi fish is gravid. The females lay eggs and the males fertilize them. If you don't want to keep them just wait until the female lays they eggs and scoop them out, either feed them to your other fish or let them dry out if you don't want to keep them. I know it sounds cruel but the eggs cannot feel anything since they have not begun to develop and if you dispose of them there is a chance of them surviving and becoming an invasive species.[/quote]

Huge mistake, my fish are common goldies. -.- what does gravid and invasive mean? And, I want to keep my eggs. Hopefully grow them into goldfish, adult goldfish. So I won't have to buy them.. Any way to do that? How to get the female to lay eggs, and bot let the other fish eat them?

Dakotak, I love that poem. For me it's true. I have so many fish that amaze my friends (fish keeping isn't really a common thing in my area) and as soon as I say I'm saving up for a 20 or 30 gallon to get a goldfish or two the merriment ends. Goldfish are gorgeous creatures and they have so much rarity. If I didn't know better I wouldn't think comets and dragon scales are both goldfish since they look so different.

Is a two gallon tank big enough for a goldfish? and how about a 40 gallon with 2 goldfish, a sucker fish, and three bleeding heart fish?

A two gallon is way too small for a goldfish I am afraid. :(
Your 40 gallon could hold 3 goldfish alone if they are fancy goldfish, if they are common, comets or shubukins they need a 55 gallon then 20 gallons for everyone you add after that. For fancies the rule is 20 gallons to start with and 10 gallons for every one you add after that. Fancy goldfish are round with double tails, comets, common and shubukins are long with one vertical tail.
The fancy goldfish can get up to 10 inches or more and can live up to 20 years.
Commons, comets and shubukins can get to to a foot to more or more.
If you cant tell the difference you can upload pictures and I can tell you their types and breeds. :)

What type of sucker fish is it? Most sucker fish get more than a foot long and can and will attack your goldfish and eat their slime coat. If you can upload a picture we could try to identify it for you.

Do you mean bleeding heart tetra? They are tropical fish and goldfish are cold water fish.

You have some very conflicting species in your tank. Not only that but if your tank has only been running for a week it has not cycled properly I am afraid. :(
My advice to you is to chose which of the breeds you like best and keep those and re-home the others. While is may seem that they are fine at how they are, keeping those fish together is not good for them since they have different needs. In the end it will shorten their lifespan. Depending if your goldfish are fancy or not your 40 gallon would be perfect for just the 3 of them, that is the route I would take, but I am a bit biased when it comes to goldfish. XD

I was supposed to do a water change on both my tanks last week but didn't....Bad fishy momma...that'll get done this week for sure!

So I'm debating selling my guppy tank and all the fish in it....2 10 gallons is a lot for a dorm room and I'm starting to realized guppies aren't my cup of tea. If that makes sense? I'm much more of a betta person I've realized. I'd love to be a goldfish person but a 20 gallon just isn't in my future till maybe next year. Anyway! If I do decide to sell it I'm not sure what I should price it at. It would come with the tank, gravel, a few decorations, a filter, 4 female guppies, 1 male guppy, 4 corys, 1 apple snail, guppy food, and 2 different containers of shrimp pellets.

I have to post another pic of Jewel. He's back in the spawn tank with another of his sisters. Here's hoping this time he'll become a father.
