yeah, I agree that you can't recognize Dutch that well in this breeding... you rather recognize Night. But Dutch has really complicated markings, too... maybe that was the reason that they were "simplyfied"?
I dunno. Since we can't change anything, I think we should take this boy as he is, a pretty little baby-boy. <3

It wouldn't have been hard to put his white patch in more of a place like his fathers though, would it? And maybe add a touch of dark dull bay to the base colour... It still confuses me about that random white quipping though, and what I'm going to have to do with some of the breedings lined up is simplify some of the quipping, which is easy enough.. But Birch seems to enjoy complex quip so the fathers quip wouldn't be an issue surely?

If you look closely at the patches, you'll see that Birch sorta inverted them. What's grey was white on Dutch and what's white was grey on Dutch. And she added the faded base. Maybe it didn't look good complex too? o3o I actually see a lot of dutch in her, I think it's her eye markings that make her look more like Night. Rocket also does't really look like his parents o3o
Just wanted to put in my opinion ^^

It's a WIP of my Equids dressed up for Halloween!
Quies is in her flower fairy/angel outfit, Carivalle is a ghost, Oratunus is being a super hero and Vivi is a witch xD
I've only done the lines so far but it was really fun to draw, hope you like it! Even though the photo squished it..
And a huge congrats Peace_music! He's beautiful!

Aww you used my Superequid doodle as a ref! XD Yaaaay I feel special!
Birch just has a very different technique for breedings than you Maz. I remember seeing Kataya for the first time and thinking that she didn't look a thing like her parents. But I've come to realize looking at her other breedings that she takes elements of the parents and uses them to make something that looks like it could be a first generation equid rather than a breeding. It's different, and maybe not the effect some people are expecting, but I think it's sort of interesting and a little more realistic. This is why you always do your homework on the artist you pick kiddies. :3

Sorry, but I can't give you an answer for that. Those are reasons that would vary from person to person. I'm not one of those people, so I can't give you my opinion, but it would be silly to deny that someone might like that. So I just say we agree that you would have done it differently and that Peace now has an adorable baby to be excited about.

I just don't understand that idea.. Surely if you wanted something that looked first gen, you'd apply for an actual first gen, and imo if I loved the look of 2 equids and wanted a foal from them, i'd want it to look like both of them, not something that I don't think looks like either surely?

Okay, last response I'll make to this because I just thought of an example:
Say you're looking for a really specific type of coloring. I am for my last slot. But a first-gen with this type of coloring hasn't come out in ages and only one of the artists does it. I'm thinking about trying to breed for it. Not because I desperately want this equid's specific markings, but just the general coat color. As long as it has that base, I wouldn't really be concerned about what other markings it has, so I wouldn't mind it looking like a first gen even if it wasn't.

still, thats not an excuse to make a completly different foal. You will never breed lets say two black horses and get a black tobiano sabino splash with appaloosa markings XP

I agree with Amigo here.
I'd choose to breed two adults because I'd like their colours AND markings (including quipping), foals don't come out miles different from their parents DX
EDIT:
For example. I look at the foals that are born each year at the yard I bought Dancer from, they ALWAYS look like a mixture of their parents, without fail
