ɢαℓɛ slowly exhaled, taking one hand off the steering wheel as the Ferrari slowly reached the start of the massive queue of traffic. Great. They didn't need to be anywhere, at least. Sitting around was perfectly fine for him, and Riley didn't paticuarily look like she cared. Sitting back in his seat, Gale smoothed down his hair and gazed through the windshield. "Hell yeah. You watch the news, right? All those warnings about reporting suspicious people with lots of tattoos and stuff. I'm far too awesome to get caught if I was on my own, but …" He shrugged, glancing at her. "Haven't your … parents noticed why their darling daughter has big badass tattoos all over her shoulders?"
The tattoos weren't actually inked onto the skin of course : they were completely natural. They just sort of appeared when you descovered your power, like it or not.

*Ahem* K. Back to business. ]]

Riley looked through the window, watching as the wave of traffic came in. She listened intently as Gale talked. "True....." She replied, her breath fogging up the window. "I don't usually watch the news though, with the annoying blab of politics and other boring things. There is a lot of killing, too." Riley complained to Gale. She had noticed the stories with the suspicious teens with tattoos, though, because it had caught her eye. She glanced at Gale and giggled for a bit, then calmed herself down and answered again. "Yeah, they have. Luckily, they are pretty cool parents."Riley wasn't lying. Her parents were actually cool, and Riley did like them. It was rare for a teenager to like their parents, but she did.

Riley slammed her head against the dashboard, a little too hard. "Ow." She said quietly. Riley groaned. They weren't moving in the thick traffic. "This is boring. Can't we get ice cream or something?" She said to Gale, licking her lips at the thought of ice cream. Even though it was freezing outside, thanks to Gale, Riley still wanted it badly. She didn't really want to be serious right now, she wanted to be immature and complain to Gale about ice cream. To be herself.

ɢαℓɛ's head snapped around and he started at her as she spoke.
"Yeah, they have. Luckily, they are pretty cool parents."
His aqua eyes were wide with shock and disbelief; one-handed grip on the steering wheel slowly tightening until his knuckles were white.
Luckily, they are pretty cool parents.
Parents.
They accept her for what she is.
They love her.
They care about what happens to her.
His eyes were still wide but unfocused as the memories flashed through his mind like shooting stars …
A woman in her early thirties screaming, a long, heart-wrenching scream of pain and fear. A ripped shirt lying on the floor, the shoulders and back torn to shreds. A hand speeding towards his face, a loud slap that rang across the empty room. A young girl being held back, tears of bewilderment glittering in her innocent eyes. Hundreds of fists connecting to a body. A locked room with barred windows and hundreds of locks. A girl, no older than thirteen, climbing through a wall and opening the door. Strong hands guiding to daylight.
Gale's whole body was absolutely rigid.
Slowly, cautiously, he blinked.
And again.
And again.
Clearing the memories.
Pushing them to a dark distant part of his mind.
Focusing on the girl in the seat beside him.
…
Gale blinked rapidly and looked away, well aware he had probably been staring at her for at least three or four minutes.

Riley looked at Gale quizzically as he stared into her eyes. He was here, but it felt like he wasn't. It was a distant gaze. His eyes were full of emotion- terror, sadness, anger, pain. His gaze was uncomfortable to Riley, he had been giving his distant stare for a long time. "Gale?" She said softly. "Gale!" She waited until he was out of his trance, focusing on something other than his eyes.

ɢαℓɛ coughed slightly, his wide eyes focused on the floor of the car. Instead of flushing red like someone else in his position normally would, the boy had gone a worryingly pale shade of white. He didn't trust himself to speak without yelling or screaming or crying or something, so just stayed perfectly silent and still even when the car in front started to move and the car behind started to beeeep at him. He was in no trance or locked in memory this time : this time Gae was simply just to overcome to speak.
As he did, his voice was low and hoarse. "Yeah we can, if you want."
The Ferrari slowly edged forwards in the traffic. Gale's eyes flickered in a final passing memory then were still.
Whoa, boy. Way to freak out the new chick and convince her you're a total nutter. His lips curled up slightly at the edges in the remnants of a smile.

Riley's brows creased. She was worried for Gale. She didn't want to pressure him, or talk about what had just happened, but the question just slipped out of her mouth. "Are you okay?" She asked nervously, watching Gale with her sea green eyes.

Riley bounced up and down in her seat happily. "Yes! Ice cream!" She said, a little too loudly. She was really happy that they were going to get ice cream. A small smile crossed her face and then disappeared, remembering that they were stuck in traffic. She groaned and pressed her cheek against the window, feeling the cooling sensation that ran through her face. Riley watched the surrounding traffic and sighed.

ɢαℓɛ blinked a few times, frowning and grippingbthe wheel tightly.
It's been so long since someone actually cared enough to ask-
Stop.
Stop right there.
Gale mentally slapped himself, telling him to stop getting so sentimental and emotional. Clearing his throat slightly as he chose not to reply, he watched Riley from the corner of his eye as he leaned his head onto the car door. Strange girl. Well, they were both nutters then.

Riley waited, but there was no response. She sighed and continued to press her cheek up against the window, letting it cool her. She wanted to ask again, but she wasn't going to push Gale too far. She watched as the snowflakes continued to fall, seeming to get bigger and bigger, the traffic slowly clearing. Riley pulled her hood farther over her face as she stared out the window.
