The stallion felt a twitch of a smile flick across his face as he watched Bander awkwardly gallop away, the young stallion had a naive sort of innocence about him that appealed to Arsenic. Flicking a sideways glance at Valiant he wondered what she made of the whole interaction, he knew of some mares -namely his mother- who would think him pathetic for the show of friendliness and companionship he showed to Bander. Yet Arsenic wanted to be his own leader, he refused to allow his actions to be dictated by his mother anymore.
Valiant's answer to his impromptu question soothed his somewhat frayed nerves, if the others had headed elsewhere and there were only a few potential loners to deal with...well, that was perfectly tolerable for him. He flickered his ear a little worriedly when she described how she had managed to survive though, it sounded as though Valiant was thoroughly undernourished by this point, getting some proper food into her would be important. When did I start to care so much? He wondered to himself ruefully, though truthfully he knew that it was hard not to care about the health of such a beautiful mare, even on that principle alone.
Her question about him brought Arsenic up short, and instant suspicion bloomed in his chest, why did this mare want to know? What did it matter to her? The logical part of him said that it was simply friendly curiosity, but Arsenic wasn't about to take any chances. The less she knew the better it was anyways, so Arsenic decided to give her a rather vague recounting of his past.
"Well, I was raised by my mother -you might meet her later- and had a fairly mundane colthood." He tactfully left out the bit about having been trained on how to fight since he could stand, nor did he mention the impromptu meetings his mother had coordinated with his bloodthirsty father. "I grew up in an isolated oasis with her and finally decided to leave one day," He had had enough of constantly having to do his mother's dirty work, and had decided that his hooves had been drenched in enough blood to last a lifetime. "I eventually stumbled upon this herd and managed to win a fight for control of it over the old lead. A sickness swept through several months later, and unfortunately I lost much of the herd to it. Thankfully we are recuperating now." He had told her enough to, hopefully, sate her curiosity, but not so much that she knew too much about him or the herd.
Clearing his throat Arsenic felt his ears perk up when he saw the faintly shimmering waters of the oasis up ahead, turning warm eyes onto the spotted mare he dipped his head in the direction of the water. "May I present our humble oasis, I hope it satisfies you." He said smoothly, his ruby eyes studying her with no small amount of interest. He was quite impressed by her thus far, and was interested to see where their acquaintance might lead.

Nightlock was picking her way quietly across the dunes still, completely minding her business, when some stupid upstart came barreling towards her, causing a spray of sand to whip up against her coat. Flattening her ears angrily Nightlock tossed her head and stamped a hoof warningly. "Watch where you're going you clumsy colt!" She snapped out venomously, her eyes narrowing to unhappy slits.
The youngster seemed to know her name, though she really expected nothing less, and completely ignored her earlier insult, diving straight on to ask how she was doing in some high-and-mighty sort of accent. Glaring down her muzzle at him the older mare made sure to enunciate every word she said. "Well, I WAS doing fine. Until YOU came and stirred the sand up like some crazy banshee." She ground out angrily, promptly continuing to walk and breezing right past the dark colt.
She would brook no interruptions on her alone time in the desert, it was supposed to be a time of inner reflection and thought, not a time where young herd members came and chatted her up. It simply wasn't done.
