Red attempted to curl herself up into a more comfortable position against the hard surface of the sewer. Though it was morning, she was readying herself for a few hours of sleep; she mostly kept active during the night, both through habit and convenience. She had grown rather sensitive to the light of day. Also, it helped her to stay away from the other mutants that inhabited the sewers. She knew it might benefit her to be part of a group, but thinking about it made her nervous. She had witnessed too many fights and unfortunate occurrences to feel completely safe in the company of others. For now, all she needed to feel safe was her newest den, a small, out of the way shelter in a blocked off sewer tunnel. She didn't mind the sewers. The smell wasn't so bad. Also, humidity was actually the atmosphere she enjoyed the most, and the enclosed space made her feel cozy and reassured. That was once of the reasons why her new little home appealed to her. She planned on finding some scrap materials to make it more comfortable, but those were hard to come by if you didn't know the right people.

She shifted her slight frame once more, feeling uncharacteristically fidgety. Perhaps it was the hunger; Red had been unable to find something to eat during the night and her stomach was not afraid to remind her. Still, she had definitely spent some hungry days and nights before, and she had been able to cope. No, her restlessness was due to something else. Her mind was floating in that vague area before sleep where thoughts are riddled with a strange mix of anxiety and ideas, and the last thing she needed was to lay still for hours and hope to calm down. Disappointed but resigned, she helped herself up and shook out the creeping numbness in her legs.

It was the first time in a couple of weeks that she had purposefully broken her nocturnal habits. She tried to convince herself she would only be out for a couple hours at the very most, but something told her that today might be a little different. A nagging feeling of worry started to burrow itself at the back of her mind. She only hesitated for a second before deciding to ignore it. With that, she picked an arbitrary direction and took off. It was only to clear her head, after all. She'd be back soon enough.

Red made her way through the winding tunnel cautiously, stopping every few minutes to listen for any signs of life other than herself. Though the air was humid, it was also creepingly cold. She crossed an arm over her body protectively, dismayed at the state of the shirt covering her slight frame. If she wanted to survive the winter, she would need much better protection than that. The flimsy garment had once been dark blue, though now it was a washed out, sad looking grey thing which was constellated with holes and spots of muddy water. Even more miserable than the state of her clothes was the state of her body. Her bones were beginning to jut out, pale skin stretched thinly overtop. Red needed a stable source of nourishment, and fast.
