Dusty && Fred
Strawberry Dust was bred of the highest degree, a showdog for most of her young life. Fred was a mutt from the sheep farm next door. As pups they used to talk to each other through the fence, exchanging stories of training. He, with his herding and her with her showing. Eventually the two fell for one another, though Fred has long been fixed and Dust has been chosen to breed with another high blood dog like herself. The two have never once said how they feel.... And most likely never will.
Dusty had been away, a roadtrip to show in a city in the next state. It had been along, hot drive and she was more than happy to be able to pad through the fields she was raised in. The grass was green and fresh, since it was the start of summer the dry air had not set yet. She was excited, she was thrilled even. It was her turn to carry on the blood, her father's blood. She would be bed this year, and have a litter of her own pups. Pups. Did she ever love them, her younger siblings had recently all been given away due to a lack of perfect breeding. Dusty knew her mother was growing to old to create the perfect pups she once had... So now it rested on Dusty's shoulders to continue the bloodline. She had met her future mate, at the show in fact. He was large, well build and seemed nice enough. Her master was in the middle of purchasing Allegro. Once he was at the farm, all would be well and there'd be the little patter of paws soon enough. The pups would look like her, identical simply because Allegro had her coat. Dusty paddered along the fenceline, imagining the pups in her mind, all would be the dusty pinkish hue she had, though she was sure their eyes would be the muddy brown that Allegro owned. A disapointment to be sure, she'd always been fond of her green ones... And his blue ones. His being her puphood best friend, Fred.
"Hey there, Dusty." His voice called, as if being hailed by her thoughts. Dusty turned her emerald gaze towards the fence, where his large, orange body perched, his paws hanging over the fence while his tongue lolled from his muzzle. Her muzzle pulled into a smile, her paws took her his way and she came to a halt below him. He'd always been the same, a mix of so many breeds one could barely tell what he was. His orange fur glittered in the sun, except for where his ear, belly and paws were cream-colored. He was a outdoor working dog, you could see that from his scruffy fur, and muscled body. Her owner said he was disgusting, but Dusty had always thought he was beautiful.
"Hello Fred, how have you been?" Dusty asked him, lowering her rump to sit on the grass, her tail wagging slightly behind her. The male shrugged, shifting to let his chest rest on the top of the fence, cocking his head slightly.
"Same as always, work, work, work, sheep, sheep, sheep. We have lambs now, so we're on extra careful watch," He replied. Fred let his eyes wander over the delicate, glorious form that was Strawberry Dust. She was so beautiful, and he'd always thought so. Even when she was a pup with floppy ears, and too big paws... He was older than her, not by too much, but enough to have been towering over her most of his life. She was so small, so perfect and he couldn't help but feel his heart squeeze everytime he laid eyes on her.
"Lambs. They're so cute." Dusty yipped, tail wagging further as she moved to hop up beside him, scanning the fields for the lams he spoke of. There were no sheep in the field, meaning they were in the other, on the other side of the barn. Her ears sagged, slightly disappointed. She turned to face him, giving a shrug. "I suppose I'll see them later. But I'll have my own pups to take care of soon enough,"
"What?" Fred asked, blinking in surprise. She was breeding? He had always known deep down she would eventually. But that didn't stop his heart from giving a jolt, and his body from feeling colder all the sudden. But she seemed happy... And as long as she was happy, there was no reason for him to comment on it other than in a positive manner. "That's fantastic, Dusty, you've always wanted your own pups,"
"Yes, I'm quite excited," She replied, her voice a little softer than it should have been. Please... Try and stop me.... Say something... She mentally begged him. She wanted nothing more to hear him tell her no. Hear his low growl of possession, for him to tell her that she was only allowed to be his mate.... But it didn't come.

my favourite couple. And it's sort of like a an RP I'm involved in. Except in the end of
the RP the two get together... I just felt that this lil' story was perfect with an unhappy
ending... Does that make me malicious or strange? xD
