Tawnypaw wrote:IWe have been best friends since we both had our eyes opened. Born into a human home, Ken had heard a lot of songs from his pack-sister, Libby. At that point in time, she had been obsessed with Justin Beiber, a singer who wrote a couple of good songs, she would say.
I was born into that house, too. But, I belonged to Ken's owner's brother, Jason. He wasnt very kind, but I had to deal with it. I had spotted fur, his fur was a creamy white with splotches of black here and there.
Our relationship was never romantic, as Mother would call it. (We werent born into the same litter, by the way!). Mother would always say: "Two males cannot have children, and that is all males are for; bearing pups to mothers."
I knew she was wrong, so did Ken.
"Spots, let's go to the park!" Ken barked at me, making my tail wag unknowingly. I loved to hear his voice and to be with him.
Ken smiled, and we went to the park.
But that night, on our way home, something bad happened.
Ken was crossing the street before me. While he was in the middle, a drunk driver sped down the usually non-busy street. Ken didnt see the car, or smell it. He was too budy thinking.
I knew I had to do something. I ran as fast as I could towards Ken, and I knocked him out of the way just in time.
*switching POV*
"Spots!" I howled, hearing a loud yelp and watching as a mass amount of blood spattered the ground and the front end of the truck. The truck sped around Spots' body and raced off. It was a hit and run. I looked after the truck. "You monster! I will remember your face!" I growled, hoping the person in the truck had heard.
Spots wasnt moving, and I had to do something. I ran over to his body and sniffed him. Good, he was breathing, but just barely. I had to get him out of the road.
He hadnt been run over, but being hit was almost worse, because you had to live through the trajedy, the pain, the eerie silence of when you get hit. It does things to a dog.
Spots opened his eyes as I gently picked him up. He craned his neck, barely able, and licked me behind the ear. I felt hot tears streaming down my face. "You're an idiot, Spots." I cried, unable to leave my friend behind. "You should have let me die..." I whispered.
"Dont say that, Ken!" Spots told me. I was suprised to find both anger and gentleness in his voice. "I saved you for a reason, Ken. You may not know now, but you will.... If.... If I come through." Spots said as I layed him gently on the bed on our front porch.
I painfully looked at him and buried my face in his fur. "I will never leave your side, Ken. Others will stare, the humans may even try to kill us, but I know our bond is more special than any male and female dog have ever felt." I cried, the crying muffled by his spotted fur.
I looked up and saw Ken painfully smile.
That night, I howled until our owners came out and took both me and Spots to the vet. They treated us for shock and checked me for wounds, but they payed the most attention to Spots. I am glad that they did, too.
I know, it dont make much sense, but I love that pairing so well <3
