I've always loved PEWs/REWs... also love siamese, huskys, and champagne though. I find it hard to pick favourites!

Have you ever had a rat?: No, my mom thinks they are disgusting, and my stepmom is afraid of everything that breathes. My baby turtle, our kitten, and a picture of a dog -.- I'm not even going to ask my dad about a rat. But I'm going to college in a few years, and I plan to get one the very day I move out :3

So I wet to pet co the other day.
They had the sweetest rats. I want squealing over them, and one of the workers let me hold one. She snuggled me :3
(shw was rubbing her nose on me. is that good or bad?)
these older teenage couple saw the rat., and thgirl screamed "kill it!EWW!" and the guy told me to put it back before it "contaminated people" I laughed so hard at that.
But rats get a bad rep. Its sad.
my birthday is on may 17th, woo!
Need help naming to twin girl human characters, pm me

Misinformed people are rediculous when it comes to rats. When people say things like that around me I start telling them all sorts of information. Then proceed to shove the rat in their face(not actually.. more like move towards them while holding it), and say something like "Look, does this look like a disease ridden ferocious beast to you?"
But most are too stubborn to listen.

In other news, I will be getting my new rats sooner than I hoped. The breeder ran into financial troubles and will be adopting out 3, 2 month old, rats to me once I am able to find a way there(she is 4 hrs away, and the only rat breeder in my province). I'm pretty excited. The one I was planning on getting anyways, she had nicknamed Linous(sp?) and he is a dainty rex who loves to just laze around in the hammock while his brothers playfight. I know nothing about the other 2, as I was planning on getting two from the christmas litter(which obviously won't be happening now).
I'm glad though. I've been needing rats back in my life! <3

Alright.

Anyone pro on rat genetics?

I need. help. I am sick of this drama between my so called friend, her friend, MY personal best friend about the eye color of my rat pups.

Geneticly, there is NO SUCH THING as a bright red eyed fawn. Am I right? Apricot is 'newer' and is the ONLY form of fawn I have EVER seen with red/pink eyes. Other than that, a 'fawn rat with red (pink) eyes' is an AMBER.

You would not believe the war going on, on facebook, over this. -.- I am fed up.

Pistachio CLEARLY has deep PINK eyes. Not red. Yet my friend claims they're red. With some pink eyes, depending on genes, they have a metallic red sheen that makes them legit look, well, red.

I'm no pro at genetics YET. But even I know/can tell the very obvious difference.

Metallic Dragon wrote:It would appear that Koda is the territorial fiend of my rats. He just discovered the new ratties(they're appx 6 weeks old) today. They were super interested in him and wanted to play, but of course Koda would have none of it. He sat outside the cage and foofed up a storm, puffing up his fur and scuttling around like a crab. I had to scoop him up and put him back in his cage.
And of course Bimisi sniffed them and then promptly ignored them and walked away. Poor little bubs, they just wanted to play with the big ratties...

Are you going to be introducing them and having them living together? If so then wait until the babies are a bit bigger than 6 weeks old, 8 / 10 weeks at least would be a better idea. Not sure what age Koda is, but use a neuterul area to introduce them. A bed with a blanket down, the bath, a bathroom floor etc.
Fluffing up like that is pretty normal, but it would be best to use somewhere completely new to them all incase he tried to go for one of the babies.

Silver fawn?

It’s also possible to make a colour similar to silver fawn by combining red eye dilute (topaz) with American mink. The colour can look quite similar, albeit less bright, but the eyes are often a darker red then you’d see in a true silver fawn.

Genetics: Usually A-pp – a pink eyed agouti. Occasionally mock silver fawns have been bred, which are genetically American mink combined with red eye dilute and agouti. These tend not to be as bright in colour as true pink eyed rats.

NFRS standard: To be a rich orange fawn, evenly ticked with silver guard hairs. Belly fur to be white, the demarcation between the top colour and the white belly to be sharp and clear cut, devoid of irregularities and brindling. Eyes red.

Amber and Silver Fawn are the same thing.
