I think their daughter really looks like them. If you look closer, she has her mum's hip/leg markings and her dad's coloring and jungle accessories. :0

I smirk. I smirk at the knowledge that you are mine and that I walk you on a leash. Someday my pups will be born. The pups, they will be mine. I will have a son and he will be a prince, for I am a king in this ancient towering forest, this forest that is not grand enough for a king of my caliber, but I will accept it as my palace for I am a humble and gracious king. Of course I am. And I will settle for the gnarled trees and thorny bushes.

For the trees are golden and intricate, the leaves sparkly silver and carved with delicate veins. My sterling forest.

They remind me of you, my darling, with your delicate composition and sparkling pelt. With your shiny fur and small paws and noble but shy demeanor. Like a sunset.

I wasn't old when it happened.

A few months? A year? Perhaps younger, perhaps older. The days have blurred.

He kidnapped me. Me and my brother, Eros, in order to torment my parents - his enemies. He kills most of his victims. He murdered my brother before my eyes.

But not me.

I was scared. Of course I was. What pup would not be scarred if she was violently taken from her home and her parents and forced to watch her best friend and brother ripped to shreds?

And then chosen by her sibling's murderer to rule beside him. To be his plaything.

I did not fight back. I did not try to defend myself. I was scared. This brute was mad, a madman who could kill me with ease. I only whimpered and curled myself into a tighter ball should he come near me.

I remained like that for my first week imprisoned in Leromus's kingdom.

He calls it that. His "kingdom", which amounted to a large area of sparse, dead forest that no large carnivores seemed to inhabit, and a gang of scraggly strays and coyotes he called his "assassins".

And now, me.

He calls himself a king, but he has no crown or throne. He calls me a princess, a queen, but this is my prison, not my palace. Not a day passes that I do not wish to be back with Talbani, playing in the forest and following my parents as they hunt.I wonder how they fare without me. Surely they think I am dead, long lost like my brother. Perhaps they have had a new litter of pups to replace me. I shudder at the thought.

I sit and wonder, in the den that the king has given to me.

Another day begins in his kingdom, in his palace, in my prison.
