I actually really like the new layout. xD If you did change the words at the top,maybe they'd look like this?

Home = Home [I didn't think that should change]
My Pets = Documents [or something along those lines]
Adopt = Files/Copier/Printer
Store = Store [could stay the same]
Forum = Forum/Bulletin
Pound = Mailbox
Oekaki = Conference Room [or if that's too long,it could stay the same or could become a shorter word]

I don't think masking the words as "grown up" things would be very practical, it'd just make it confucing to navigate. I like it as it is, a serious version of the normal CS layout.
