Around here, the only horse adds on craigslist are really sketchy Foxtrotters, Walkers, and QH's that have awkward conformation and fat men riding them, listed for only $300. It's actually pretty sad. Some of them have overgrown feet or are pretty skinny, it makes we want to go rescue them all. ;_;
What kind of breed would you want to own?
In my area (Eastern Mo), Arabs aren't super popular... there is one Arab barn about 40 minutes from my house, but that's it. My friend - Arabian Youth Nationals CHAMPION in her division of dressage this year - boards her Arab there and shows the national Arab circuit with the trainer there.
Arizona is HUGE for Arabs, partly because of Scottsdale, I believe. And New Mexico is pretty big, too.
We have a ton of different breeds around here. There really isn't one preferred breed. We probably have mostly hunter/jumper barns dominated by Warmbloods and TBS, but there is also a fair amount of Western stuff, with lots of gaited breeds, AQH, Appies, etc. Plus lots of drafts and minis tossed in there. The "trend" for HJ barns in my area seems to be mini ponies. o.o Every barn seems to have one besides mine... lol.
