@Kayla:
Oh my gosh, Calvin is stunning! And I do Jumpers and Eq as well <3

@Toppy:
Around here, the only horse adds on craigslist are really sketchy Foxtrotters, Walkers, and QH's that have awkward conformation and fat men riding them, listed for only $300. It's actually pretty sad. Some of them have overgrown feet or are pretty skinny, it makes we want to go rescue them all. ;_;

What kind of breed would you want to own?

In my area (Eastern Mo), Arabs aren't super popular... there is one Arab barn about 40 minutes from my house, but that's it. My friend - Arabian Youth Nationals CHAMPION in her division of dressage this year - boards her Arab there and shows the national Arab circuit with the trainer there.
Arizona is HUGE for Arabs, partly because of Scottsdale, I believe. And New Mexico is pretty big, too.
We have a ton of different breeds around here. There really isn't one preferred breed. We probably have mostly hunter/jumper barns dominated by Warmbloods and TBS, but there is also a fair amount of Western stuff, with lots of gaited breeds, AQH, Appies, etc. Plus lots of drafts and minis tossed in there. The "trend" for HJ barns in my area seems to be mini ponies. o.o Every barn seems to have one besides mine... lol.

@Hano- Oh really? That's sketchy. There aren't too many horse adds on craigslist, but there's plenty of tack and riding clothes that looks pretty good.

Yeah, Scottsdale is huge for Arabs! Two of the girls from my barn went a few times before they aged out of Youth. They placed in the top 5 a handful of times, I think. It's pretty intense competition.

When I do get a horse, I'd like some kind of warmblood- type horse, doesn't have to be warmblood, but something like that. Tall ish, up-hill, nice mover and good for dressage, jumping and tolerant enough to try other disciplines, even if it isn't good at them. Arabians can do dressage, but once you get to the higher levels they just aren't as common, maybe it's cause they aren't completely built for the higher movements or what, I dunno. Purebred arabians are often too small for my preferance xD

In my area, there's plenty of arabs, but there's also a strong hunter/jumper community and plenty of dressage. There's some western, a fair bit of trail-riding for pleasure people, and plenty of TBs.

Canada is mostly western in the prairie provinces, and then more diverse on the coast. Most Olympians come out of BC or Ontario, because that's where more english is done.

@Draft:
Actually, I'm not with Sly in a single picture or video... he's the bay, Kat's the Chestnut. C:
Kat is rather small - only 15.1 - especially considering that I'm 5'11, might be 6' now, I haven't measured for a bit.
Sly's around 17.1-17.3, I'm not sure. I don't look big around him, lol

@Rain:
Oh. xD I will have to look.

@Toppy:
There are a MILLION horse adds on my craigslist, but hardly any decent tack or riding clothes. Unless you're looking for XXL canary breeches. Or hideous bronc halters. Or ancient stubben saddles that would probably be a violation of law to ride in.

Wow, that's awesome that they went to Scottsdale! I would love to do that with Kat, but I doubt that would happen.

That's kinda what I'd look for in a horse. C: Although I'd probably stick with a lighter horse, like a TB, because I prefer having a horse light in the bridle than completely way too heavy, which is all I've experienced from WB's thus far. Yeah, Arabs are so tiny. >< I wish a 17+hh Arab was common, because I'd snap that up. Being tall + loving Arabs = looking huge when riding. That's why I love Anglos.

That's cool that you have so much diversity in your area too. C:

@Hano, oh my god lol. The craigslist thing is so true. They're almost ALL sketchy little horses who are a little pathetic, with, yes, you were dead on, fat guys riding them xD I also see a lot of mules, paints, missouri fox trotters, and tennessee walkers., but QH's seem to be most prevalent. And I've seen them go from free to 10,000, but yeah, most common would have to be 300-100 I would say. But I did find this pretty guy randomly the other day, how cute. <3 Right now I'm trying to find a saddle, doubt I'll find anything good :/
I agree with you about the mini thing--almost every barn has one as it's own little mascot, but mine doesnt. We did for a few days, and OH MY GOD IT WAS THE CUTEST THING EVER. It might've even been a Falabella. It was dark dapple grey with a creamy mane and tail, omgsoadorable. <3 I want one someday, lol. And yeah, there's barely any good Arab places around here. I've heard Scottsdale is huge though.

What I'd want in a horse...hmm. Don't care, really, as long as I know what I'm getting myself into. Like, ridden them quite a bit, get to know them, etc. As long as I have a connection, it doesn't really matter to me.

@rain, aww you adn RIley are so cute <3 You have a great half-seat, IMO. I kind of just ride aorund in a half-healf-seat, if that makes sense, when cantering. Sitting back farther than a full half seat, but definitely not stuck to the saddle. But yeah, that's a good half seat! Riley's canter looks great, you look great too. Just easy stuff you will fix over time, so I'm not even gonna bother being nitpicky because it was your second time cantering him, so yeah c:

@Kayla, OMG, Calvin is so freakin' gorgeous. <3 I love his face, so very regal! <3

@Toppy, I agree with the more Olympians coming from Canada and BC, like, uhh, what's his face...very famous...ummm...Gah! Can't think of it. He's old though, he wears glasses, and he was in the Olympics this year and did pretty good!

@Hano again; OH MY. That horse is gorgeous! I love the sharp dappling on him! Looks kinda like Patsy's daddy c: How very cute.
