We had over 550 applications for the General Helper's job, and from those 550 we selected 8. With those kinds of odds, there was stiff competition, and unfortunately a lot of great applicants just missed out.
If you didn't get the job this time around, remember that the title is just a name color change, and there is nothing stopping you from helping others the way the official General Helpers do. If you were honest about your desires to improve the CS community by being friendly and helpful to those who need it, then feel free to help out, the community will be better for it.
