Part 3

Cody had everything and when I say everything I mean everything. From his well paying job, to the house he owned, to the ladies swarming his body. With all that chaos surrounding him, he still managed to make time for me. Another beauty of our friendship. I just continued to live peacefully in our old dorm that we shared before he moved out. Sure, he'd come over to study time to time but it was never the same. I hated that change. I hated the changes happening in general; everything was moving so fast and I wasn't able to keep up. Tests and exams were so much harder for me because we were taking separate courses. Everything school-wise was set far back out of reach in my brain. All I could think of was him, him, him.

Sure, everything wasn't so bad. We still hung out in between classes and bought a coffee or two. We would talk, share a laugh, and even if we were in a playful mood there was always the option of a game of tag or hide and go seek. But it still felt strange, like there was an awkward distance between us now, and I was almost sure he felt it too. It began when he started bringing a new "study buddy" to our 1x1 studies. He would always insist that there was room for one more. I'd agree for our own sake; to not start a fight. They were all girls that took some of the same courses as him. I started getting sort of offended after the first few weeks because it seemed like he was sending me some sort of subliminal message like, "Get a girl, or I'm assuming something weird." But I knew he'd never do that to me. Or would he?

Our last study together was with his newest girlfriend Alisha. No, Cody was not a player if thats what you were assuming. He often had steady relationships that lasted a month or two until one of them decided they were unfit for each other. But Alisha was new, and he seemed so excited about her. An excited that made me almost jealous. Almost. Anyone would be lucky to have such a catch like him. It's just that the last time I've ever made him this happy was in kindergarten. When I accepted his offer to play trains...

He told me to wait in his house to study, because he had to go pick up Alisha. I was fine with that, really. The real problem was the attitude she gave me.
I heard the door unlock and I looked up from my book and she surely was a sight to see. She was tall and thin and her stilettos boosted her another four inches. She towered a bit over Cody, just like I had always done. Her hair was a bush of long dark locks swept over one side of her shoulder. She had the curled horns of a ram matching the fur of Cody's. And her eyes. Her eyes. A piercing, icy white. There was nothing beautiful about her, to me. All I got from her was an eerie, deathly feeling. Her face was solemn as she stared back at me. She had narrowed her eyes and turned her head slowly to Cody.
"Who is this man," she had said in a strange foreign accent I couldn't quite put my finger on.
"Cody, the guy I was telling you about in the car. He's really nice once you get to know him," he said cheerfully, trying to make me seem a tad bit more approachable.
His opinion didn't quite seem to cut it. Her head shot back at me, her glossy hair bobbing slightly.
"I disapprove. Get 'im out of my face."
Cody's face has dropped; he seemed torn. There was a long pause, and my gaze shifted slightly from her to Cody.
"He leaves or I do." she said icily, crossing her arms staring down at Cody.
"C'mon Alisha... you don't even know him yet... he could be-"
He was interrupted by the loud clattering of her heels as she made a swift movement for the door. She had put her hand on the handle when Cody had made his decision.
"Wait! Don't go... Mike... could you please?" he only looked at the door.

That told me more than enough. Our friendship was less important. I could see the girl smile out of the corner of my eye as she gently turned the knob to open the door and made a hand gesture out onto the porch. I was up and out of their sight in less than a minute with the door slamming at my heels.

I didn't hear from Cody the day after, or the day after that. A few days after the incident I had only seen him once or twice in the hallway and he motioned for me to join him. He looked hollow. Sad. Lost. I just turned the other way. I got a phone call and a text day after day but I never answered and I never replied. I was too angry, or that was what I was feeling then, but in reality I was just being stupid. Cody, I'm sorry. I should have answered your calls. I should have replied to a single text. I should have told you the truth.

I should have told you I loved you. Instead, I left you deserted.

DX Gah, this was great, but it messed me up because I used to think MIke wasa girl o_o
MODS: I will rarely be on, but when I am on, I have to use Miku_Cat/Fon Master Miku's comp, since mine gets viruses from CS. Please do not ban either of us! D: Miku is an important friend of mine and she wouldn't deserve to be banned. I swear, we aren't using the same account.

[Jim Moriarty || Sebastian Moran]

[AU; in which Moriarty and Sebastian are both patients in a psych ward.]

Jim Moriarty was never what you might call a mentally stable child. From an early age he had enjoyed being in control; an attitude that seemed to have developed after his mother and father split up. He had been five years old at the time, and the emotional trauma damaged him somehow.

He began to exhibit signs of severe OCD, and it only got worse as he grew older. At age sixteen he began to experiment; with drugs, with girls, with a skinning knife and the neighbor’s new cat.

When she saw that there were no options left, Jim’s mother placed him in the care of a psychiatric facility. For a while, he was alright; his OCD and anger management issues seemed to fade into the stark white background. Jim became quieter, more reserved, less likely to strike out at his fellow patients.

And then he met Sebastian Moran.

The kid was eighteen years old. He was also six and a half feet tall, with shaggy blonde hair and a propensity for spewing curse words when angered. Most of the time he was merely standoffish, but when confronted he became physically violent towards everyone and everything near him.

It wasn’t until he nearly punched Jim through a wall that the younger boy saw just how broken he really was. Sebastian’s anger was wild and uncontrolled, but it seemed somehow… defensive. As though the boy believed that the world would chew him up and spit him out if he didn’t bite it first.

Jim might never have found out why if the whole nearly-getting-punched-through-a-wall fiasco hadn’t been entirely his fault. Sebastian had sat down beside him at lunch and knocked over a pile of books that Jim had stacked and organized by genre and author. It wasn’t really the older boy’s fault- for all of his height, he still hadn’t grown into his knees or elbows- but Jim had been too angry to care. He had called Sebastian several very bad names, and Sebastian had hit him. And then hit him again.

The two boys soon found themselves in solitary confinement. Or, at least, whatever passed for solitary confinement in a psychiatric hospital. Sebastian was drugged up on whatever the doctors thought might calm him down for the time being, but it was only working enough to put him on some kind of wacky trip. Jim could hear the older boy’s confused ramblings through the walls of his padded cell, and he had to admit that they were highly amusing.

When he hadn’t heard anything for a while, Jim crawled and bounced his way over to the wall between his cell and Sebastian’s, calling out quietly, “Sebastian? Seb-“

He was interrupted by a slurred laugh and a garbled half-shout of “Kittens, Jim! Kiiiiiteeeeens.” There was a bit more drunken giggling, and Jim smiled thinly.

“I’m sorry I called you those things,” he said, taking the chance to apologize now that the likelihood of Sebastian remembering it was rather small.

“‘S alright,” came the quiet reply from the other side of the wall. Jim wondered, idly, if Sebastian was a sad drunk, and really hoped that he wasn’t going to have to deal with that sort of thing.

“‘S just, eat or be eaten, you know?” Sebastian continued, voice only slightly unintelligible. “And, when I was little, it was kind of…” He trailed off, and Jim pressed his ear against the padding. He didn’t want to say anything for fear that Sebastian would stop talking altogether.

“…It was fight or flight, all the time. An’ I had a brother, older’n me. I allus had to run ‘cos he was bigger. Pop didn’t care, said it was just a boy thing, that we’d grow out of it. An’ mum… she was under, most of the time. I dunno what drugs she was doing, but she was allus doing ‘em. In the basement. I knew ‘cos one time she overdosed and the police carried her out in a body bag.”

Jim was silent for a long time, wondering if Sebastian would continue. He hadn’t thought to get so much information out of the older boy, and now that he had, he was starting to wish that he hadn’t. There were some things that were private, and Jim felt almost like an intruder just by listening to Sebastian talk about them.

That didn’t stop him from being curious, though. “So why are you in here…?” he asked, keeping his voice quiet so that there was a chance Sebastian might not hear him.

“It was allus fight or flight,” the older boy repeated. “An’ one time… one time I chose fight. Didn’t mean to hurt him tha’ bad, but- well. So they tossed me in this place and forgot abou’ me.”

The two boys were silent for a long, long time. Only after Jim could hear Sebastian’s soft snores from the adjoining room did he murmur, “I think I know how you feel.”

[I guess this is as fluffy as I can get with these two at one in the morning.]

After his many attempts to get me back in his life, I came to the conclusion he just gave up on me. I wouldn't look at him in the halls. I'd ignore him if he sat next to me. My idiocy was unbelievable. He spent weeks leaving voicemails and text after text on my phone. I didn't check my phone once. The thing that surprised me the most was my phone bill.

308 Missed Calls - 0 Sent
308 New Voicemails - 0 Sent
723 New Text Messages - 0 Sent

He missed me. A ton. But I was too stubborn to respond to even a single text.

---

It was two years. Two years since we talked face to face.

It was the summer after college ended, and we happened to bump into each other at the coffee shop we used to meet in. He looked exhausted and stressed out. He looked nothing like the perky pup that held out a hand to me when I needed one most. There were gray bags under his eyes and his hands shook rapidly. His hair was the most notable; it was longer and more oily. I wouldn't have recognized him if he didn't say my name first.

"Mikheal!"

I just looked at him, absolutely dumbfounded. It took me a second to realize he bumped into me, and was now fussing to pick my coffee cup that had dropped when he crashed into me. Once he had managed to pick it up I took it from him swiftly. None of the coffee managed to spill out, so it was fine.

"Mike. Oh boy am I so glad to see you! We haven't talked in.. years!"

He managed to make a thin smile and he looked up at me. He looked shaken up and broken. I only realized now that he desperately needed someone to talk to. But I just continued to look at him blankly.

"And I didn't plan on talking to you for many, many more," I replied soon after, very cooly.

My idiocy. Absolutely flawless. I just continued looking down at him and I could see he felt intimidated. I stepped aside him, and began walking towards the door.

"Mike. Please. We haven't had a friendly chat in a really long time. I just thought it would be nice to catch up,"

I had managed to stop, look back at him, and give him a little bit of hope.

"No."

Only to shatter that hope into pieces.

---

That was a cry for help. He wasn't even being pushy about it, and I just brushed him off like he was nothing. I regretted it then. I regret it to this day. I should have just gave him a hug or agreed to a small chat. Maybe then he would have reconsidered what he had done.

I guess during my two-year-absence, I had missed a lot. Cody and Alisha ended up getting married few months later, only to divorce each other in under half a year. She got the house. The Money. The everything. Cody was cheated and out of everything he owned and everything he stood for. I even figured out that he sought out looking for me; completely distraught when he heard I moved a few towns over. How did I learn about this? By seeing him on the news.

He decided to end it all. Nobody was there to tell him otherwise. The boy who lived a seemingly perfect life made the decision to step in front of a train. But he didn't die instantly if thats what you were assuming. No, he was in the intensive care unit for weeks and when I heard of this I took a bus straight to the hospital.

I was trying to seem calm, cool, and collected when I reached the counter but I just couldn't contain myself.

"Renolds. Cody. Please."

She looked up at me slightly, before tapping away at her computer screen again. She didn't seem to care really, and it seemed like forever until she finally said something.

"Are you a relative to Mr. Renolds?"

"No. But I'm sure you can-he can make an exception we grew up together we were so close please."

She sighed and tapped away again at her computer only moving her hands once to push a brownish-gold strand of hair behind her ear.

"I'm sorry sir, but at the moment we are onl-"

She didn't get to finish because I was running up and down the halls screaming his name like a mad man with a bunch of security guards on my tail. As I was screaming I glanced at all the names written on the whiteboards, none of which were his. Until I finally saw a door slightly ajar with his last name written in the same cursive as the rest.

And as I crashed through the door I saw him there.

Image
"Mikheal..." he said hoarsely, still managing to twist his face into a sweet smile.

Last chapter is coming up next, it might be a little short but it'll be a good little finale ^^ And sorry for the confusion on Mike's gender, I should have probably said something xD

"Mikheal..." he said hoarsely, still managing to twist his face into a sweet smile.

Last chapter is coming up next, it might be a little short but it'll be a good little finale ^^ And sorry for the confusion on Mike's gender, I should have probably said something xD

I love this story ^^
I look forward to the next chapter.

---

XD Lol, that's okay. How is it that you manage to dress them all up perfectly every single time? Lol, he seriously looks beat up! I've been trying to get scars and stuff for weeks and haven't found that many XD

The girl and The masked spirit

Why can't you stay
My dear, my friend

I've run away
My fear has no end

Oh my sweet love
Please be tough

Oh dear, oh my
I've had enough

Please don't run
I need you here

You can't stop me
When I've so much to fear

Your fears are nothing
They're silly
They're wrong
It is only with me, that you belong.

My dear, I'm blushing
Through and through
But I'm afraid I must turn my back on you
It was only one night
Of dances and fright
But the sunlight has chased me away

I'll miss you, my love
I'm so sorry I tried
Now this Halloween night
Will end with my cries
Tears will drench my pillow
I'll fall asleep in bed
And then
When I am dreaming
Perhaps I'll see you again?

and you were there by the time
waiting to let me know

"I'm sorry," he breathed into my ear. "I'm sorry."

Well, boy, sorry isn't quite going to cut it.

You did this to her, and now you're lying to me. Lying to my face.

"Come back when you're truly sorry," I say, voice unfaltering. "I can't see, but since when was I blind? She was the kindest person I have met, and you betrayed her, threw her aside. As if you're sorry. Farewell, and I hope you can learn."

I was out the door before he could say "Wait." I did not go to her, I could not go to her.

I went to the old oak tree to tell myself that she would never love an animal.

She would never love an animal, but there was no way she would love a liar.

I told myself that.

Wasn't true.

Wasn't.

Was not.

Not.
Not.
Not.

He didn't love her, but she loved him.

Best friends had to look after each other.

There was nothing left to look after.

Nothing.

I could never see. I can't see.

But I'm not blind.

After all,

I fell in love at first sight.

Why would she?

I am an animal.

Being an animal is better than being a murderer.

Being an animal is better than leading someone to their death, someone who loved them.

And yet, I would not. I would not.

I only wish that he learns.

After all, the tears are flooding my eyes. After everything, the leopard still stands. The tiger does not. The tiger is laying on the ground, under the old oak tree.

I will be strong.

The tiger will stand, as it always did.

And so will the wolf. Even fallen down, it will stand.

Because I am the tiger, and I refuse to give up to the leopard. She would not.

I got up, tears still stinging my eyes.

I ran. It was all too fast, running on four legs.

By the time I got to the door, my heart was pounding.

He noticed me.

After all, how do you not notice an animal?

He stared. Oh, how he stared. I would not give him the satisfaction of being angry, of ripping out his throat.

"You will be sorry. She is dead, but you are alive. I hope you know that you're blind, and that your mind is gone.

You need to know that I cannot see, but you also need to know that I am not blind.

The tiger is never blind."

I looked into his eyes, and he looked back.

"I gave up on magic a long time ago."

"I gave up on you a long time ago. But magic was always there. When you need to protect someone with all your life, it is always there."

He smiled. I could see. The tiger is not blind. The human is.

"Goodbye, and I sure do hope that you're sorry, Sam."

"She's dead. I can't change that."

"No, but you can be sorry. She will hear you. I am sure of that. Goodbye."

I was a human, back in my tuxedo and black pants and out the door before he could protest.

I was a minute too late to save her, but she can rest.

I can make sure of that.

Neat story, Elemental rift! ^^

I enjoyed reading it, but it also confused me. Oh well, I'll re-read it later when my head doesn't hurt so much. -_-
