Part 2

We were inseparable.

We were a sight to see all through middle school. Cody had always been shorter than I was. Each year he was getting shorter and shorter but in reality I was just getting taller and lankier. He would never admit he just hadn't hit his growth spurt yet. We grew accustomed to names like "Jack and the Bean Stalk" or "Small Fry and Stretch" and often took them as an indirect compliment. You probably know that saying about how opposites attract, right? But our friendship was so similar to that, it sometimes scared even me.

Cody was always the brainy and logical one out of the two of us. His mind was like a steel trap when it came to things like science and social studies. I always made sure to sit next to him when a test in either subject came around. He didn't seem to mind when I'd scan his paper once or twice. I was the other half, the artsy creative one that wasn't afraid to speak outside the box (to only him, of course). I always excelled in english because I just loved writing. Whether it be poems or short stories or essays I made sure to put in my very best effort. Except when it came to placing commas and semicolons. I never knew where to put those things. Also, drawing had been an open passion of mine. Cody and I had always been big fans of mythological creatures and I'd draw anything he'd ask me to. He loved Cerberus especially... I worked really hard on that one. I gave him a huge Cerberus drawing for his 13th birthday and he hung it on one of his walls with other countless drawings of mine. He told me he's keep them until the day he died.

I was very shy. He was very outgoing. My mother had always liked our pairing because he always brought me out of my shell. I could be myself around Cody without having to face ridicule or judgement. Although when it came to talking aloud I needed a bit of coaching. If we ever were out eating at a restaurant I'd have a hard time looking at the waiter or waitress so he'd usually order for me. Or if my order was wrong or they forgot to get a straw for me, Cody didn't have a problem bringing it up himself. Sometimes he'd encourage me to ask on my own and I would, but he understood it was uncomfortable for me. He understood me. He always did.

We stayed together all the time during school, Cody even requested classes with me. We never grew tired of seeing each other which was one of the beauties of our friendship.

You might have wondered what things did we have in common. One already stated was mythology. Another was our imagination. We had no problem coming up with scenarios or characters or anything. Cody inspired me to write. He'd give me a plot and a few names for the characters and I'd bring them to life. He'd read it back to me because I stumbled on words when I read. Writing for us was just a bunch of little puzzle pieces waiting to be put together. And with him the picture was always complete.

Another thing we both loved to do was act. We never did any school plays or anything because neither of us were good at memorizing. We were best at improvising and making the scenes as we went along. Sometimes he insisted we'd dress up as our characters but I told him I couldn't bear the thought of living my life remembering something as embarrassing as that. Although I'll admit now he's gotten me to dress up once or twice. Or maybe three. All right probably the majority of the times we acted we suited up. And I'm proud of it. You might have noticed out of all the subjects I listed in the second paragraph, math was not there. Because we both sucked at it.

Life is full of improvising. It could turn out to be a huge comedy or a tragedy or in our case, both.

You can thank her for that.

X3 Amazing, as usual.

Part three will be up soon, if not tomorrow ^^
MODS: I will rarely be on, but when I am on, I have to use Miku_Cat/Fon Master Miku's comp, since mine gets viruses from CS. Please do not ban either of us! D: Miku is an important friend of mine and she wouldn't deserve to be banned. I swear, we aren't using the same account.

(Not a romantic pair. Based on me and my best friend. Lyrics are not mine; they're from this song. I may eventually write a proper story, but it's unlikely, unless anyone really wants me to write one.)

Todd [m] ------ Tika [f]

When I stepped into my sister's hospital room, I didn't know what to expect. On the car ride over, I had pictured multiple scenarios. But not one of them came even close to matching what I witnessed that day.

My mother smoothed down my black hair, ridding it of any fly-away wisps. "Just remember that no matter what," she whispered soothingly in my ear, "Tika is your sister."

My father just nodded, a stony expression settling over his face. He hadn't spoken since we'd gotten the call from Tika's doctor earlier that morning. Whatever his thoughts were on the situation, he was keeping them to himself and frankly, I was glad - with all my mother's fake reassurances and pretend smiles, I wasn't sure if I could take him doing it as well. At least one of my parents was able to see the graveness of the whole ordeal well enough to know that there was no use in playing make-believe.

When we reached the hospital, the three of us got out of the car and walked into the tall gray building like a silent parade. My stomach clenched tightly; I was terrified. I had no idea what I was walking into, and while half of me knew I had to put on a brave face, the other half of me wanted to high-tail it back to the car and drive away without looking back.

"Mr. and Mrs. Evans?"

My parents and I turned at the sound of Dr. Richard's deep voice. The grim expression on his face just made my stomach muscles tighten all the more.

My mother must have read his face too, because when she spoke, her voice was hoarse and strained. "What--"

My father wordlessly held his hand up, stopping her mid-question. "Just take us to her." he told the doctor. It wad the first time I had heard his voice all morning, and it sounded almost mechanical. There was no emotion to his demand, though the pain in his eyes told a different story.

Dr. Richards studied my family for several long moments before nodding and beckoning for us to follow him. We made our way down the hall and rounded two corners before coming to a stop in front of a white door with the number 72 painted on it in black.

"Todd, why don't you go in first?" my mother suggested, "Your father and I will be along shortly. We just need to speak to Dr. Richard for a moment."

I met my father's eyes, and he nodded to me, confirming that I should follow my mother's request. Taking a deep breath, I gripped the brass doorknob in my right hand and slowly walked into Room 72.

Just a short story I wrote about two of my characters in CS pet form.

King Thalamon of Athens x Elizabeth Eleanor Marie Lightning

"Well isn't this wonderful?" I mutter under my breath as I peer out into the street. In accordance with Greek culture, I can't be seen out without a male escort, so I'm going to have to be sneaky in getting out of the city. "I'm lost in a different time with no way of getting back home." I'm estimating that it's about 400 BC, which means I'm about twenty-four hundred years out of date. Going back in time isn't in itself unusual to me, as I've gone many past places without ceremony. However, not being able to open a gateway back home is very unusual, as this is the first time it's happened and more than a bit disconcerting, since I really don't want to get stuck in Athens, circa 400 BC.
I don't see anyone else out on the street right now - it's about twilight, so most citizens are in their homes with their families - besides the guard at the gate, and I know I can take him out easily as long I sneak up on him. However, if I'm caught-
Suddenly there's a cry of, "Woman!" in Greek behind me - I am fluent in Greek, as well as many other languages - and I sigh to turn around and find a startled shop owner staring at me in shock and fear, the pottery he was holding a shattered mess on the ground at his feet. I hadn't seen him before because he was in the back of his shop, so I guess there's nothing I could have done to avoid this. It's a shame that I'm going to have to kill him before anyone else hears.
Drawing an arrow from the quiver on my back and fitting it into my bow, I aim at his heart and am about to fire when a pair of arms grabs me from behind. My bow and arrow clatter to the ground, and I immediately begin to wriggle and squirm for all of my might. I manage to turn around and face my assailant, who happens to be the same guard I saw at the gate and a good five inches shorter than I am, and headbutt him for all I'm worth. Instantly he lets go of me and falls to the ground, unconscious.
I then turn back to the shop owner who originally raised the alarm to find two other guards coming at me now.
"Oh, beautiful," I growl under my breath as I watch them approach me warily. Deciding to take a less violent approach, I stand up and tell them clearly, in perfect Greek, "I mean you no harm. I just wish to leave the city."
The guards seem very surprised that I speak Greek - it's not like I look Greek, after all - but the one on the left quickly recovers from his shock to answer, "You are a woman, and you cannot be out on the street without a male escort. I'm sorry, but we have to apprehend you."
"That's too bad," I say, and the guards immediately get suspicious again. After all, I'm supposed to be giving up. "I didn't really want to hurt you two."
The shock is just starting to register on both of their faces when I charge them, find the pressure point in their shoulders, and grip their shoulders tightly until they both fall to the ground, unconscious like the first guard.
However, the shopkeeper has been yelling his lungs off during the whole exchange, so by this time a crowd of at least twenty guards has gathered. Balling my hands into fists, I watch them all warily as they slowly walk towards me, and feel my heart sink into my stomach when I realize I'm surrounded with my bow kicked off to the side. I still do have arrows, which I suppose I could throw like darts, but all of the guards are wearing fully body armor and have swords and daggers hanging from their belt.
"I guess this is what they call going down fighting," I murmur, steeling myself for the guards to rush at me. Suddenly, before I can do anything else, a guard grabs me from behind, and two more grab my arms and pull them behind my back before I can even try to fight the first guard off. I feel something tightening around my wrists and sigh as I feel the rope binding them together. It looks like the guards are going to apprehend me after all.

I look up in surprise when I hear the sounds of a large crowd ahead of me, and see that there are in fact at least two thousand people lining the sides of the streets. My gaze then falls on the procession in the middle of the streets, and immediately I understand why.
Sitting at the head of a long parade of nobles, astride a majestic bay stallion is a young man who could only be King Thalamon, the ruler of Greece who the people love with all of their hearts. He smiles and waves and occasionally even throws coins into the crowd, and his golden cloak ripples out behind him in the wind as his blue-green-gray eyes dance. He seems to love the people as much as they love him.
Suddenly the king sees the escort of twenty guards, with me in the middle being securely held by four of them, and his eyes meet mine for a moment. In that moment, I see right into his soul, and the intelligence, compassion and love for these people and this city that I find there greatly surprises me. I mean, he's king of the most powerful empire on earth, and he's not even arrogant!
Apparently he sees something in my eyes that intrigues him as well, as he gestures for the leading guard to approach his horse. The guard immediately does so, and falls to his knees in reverence before the king. I smile slightly when I see the exasperated, almost annoyed expression on the king's face, and realize that he must not be a big fan of being treated like a god. Of course, I can't blame him.
"Why does it take twenty men to apprehend a woman walking on the streets alone, guard?" the king asks after the guard gets to his feet, his eyes on me with an amused interest.
"She is a very skilled fighter, and succeeding in defeating three guards before we managed to apprehend her, your Majesty," the guard replies, bowing conspicuously after he's done talking, and I can't help but roll my eyes at the gesture. That would get really annoying really quickly.
The king seems to notice my eye-roll, for a smile crosses his face, and he slides off of his horse to walk towards me. I realize, with a start, that he's actually about three or four inches taller than I am, which is very surprising given the time period. He must be almost a foot taller than average for an Athenian man.
He stops when he is about five feet away from me, gestures for the guards to release me, and says with a grin, "I have not seen a girl so adept at embarrassing my best men as you seem to be. Tell me, what is your name?" His eyes are locked on mine, and it occurs to me, with another start, that, despite his size and intelligence, he can't be more than twenty-one years old.
"Lizzie," I reply instantly, not even bothering to think about using a false name to throw him off.
One eyebrow arches in skepticism, and he asks, "Just Lizzie?"
"Well," I concede, "Elizabeth Eleanor Marie Lightning, but Lizzie's a lot shorter."
"Indeed it is," he agrees with a smile, and, taking me by surprise, turns to his second-in-command - who is by his side now - and says in a loud voice, "Prepare a meal and a bed for her in my quarters. It seems that Lizzie and I have much to talk about." He then closes the gap in between us with three strides, wraps his arm around my shoulders, and walks me back to his horse, at which point he insists on helping me up.
After mounting behind me, which I find very disconcerting, he murmurs in my ear, apparently sensing my distress, "I'm sorry if you find this inappropriate at all; this is just the only way for us to be able to talk, as I am very interested to hear about how you got these incredible fighting skills of yours."
Even though I'm surprised at the amount of respect he showed me - after all, women are basically on the same level as slaves in Athenian society - I'm still not happy about being apprehended, and even less happy about being picked up by the king. "It's a very long story, your Majesty," I reply stiffly, wanting nothing more than to slide off the horse and bolt for the gate.
"Please call me Thalamon; I will have none of that 'your Majesty' nonsense from a foreigner too," he tells me, and, upon hearing the disgust in his voice, I know that my suspicions about him disliking the gestures made to him because of his status are correct. "And I have all the time I could ever want at my disposal, so I would love to hear your very long story."
I feel him smiling over my shoulder, and can't help but sigh slightly. All I want to do is get out of this damn city, not spend hours telling the king about my days as an assassin!
However, I can't let any of my reservations manifest themselves, lest I get caught in the midst of forming my escape plans, so I reply, "My story you'll hear then," not being able to resist adding a slightly medieval flair to my words.
"Good. I look forward to hearing about it over dinner." I feel him smiling again, and immediately my eyes shoot open at the 'over dinner' part. Do I honestly have a date with the king of Athens?

This is only the first part; I will write more later if anyone's interested. :)

viewtopic.php?f=20&t=608894&p=40704977#p40704977 Part 2

---

Part 3

Cody had everything and when I say everything I mean everything. From his well paying job, to the house he owned, to the ladies swarming his body. With all that chaos surrounding him, he still managed to make time for me. Another beauty of our friendship. I just continued to live peacefully in our old dorm that we shared before he moved out. Sure, he'd come over to study time to time but it was never the same. I hated that change. I hated the changes happening in general; everything was moving so fast and I wasn't able to keep up. Tests and exams were so much harder for me because we were taking separate courses. Everything school-wise was set far back out of reach in my brain. All I could think of was him, him, him.

Sure, everything wasn't so bad. We still hung out in between classes and bought a coffee or two. We would talk, share a laugh, and even if we were in a playful mood there was always the option of a game of tag or hide and go seek. But it still felt strange, like there was an awkward distance between us now, and I was almost sure he felt it too. It began when he started bringing a new "study buddy" to our 1x1 studies. He would always insist that there was room for one more. I'd agree for our own sake; to not start a fight. They were all girls that took some of the same courses as him. I started getting sort of offended after the first few weeks because it seemed like he was sending me some sort of subliminal message like, "Get a girl, or I'm assuming something weird." But I knew he'd never do that to me. Or would he?

Our last study together was with his newest girlfriend Alisha. No, Cody was not a player if thats what you were assuming. He often had steady relationships that lasted a month or two until one of them decided they were unfit for each other. But Alisha was new, and he seemed so excited about her. An excited that made me almost jealous. Almost. Anyone would be lucky to have such a catch like him. It's just that the last time I've ever made him this happy was in kindergarten. When I accepted his offer to play trains...

He told me to wait in his house to study, because he had to go pick up Alisha. I was fine with that, really. The real problem was the attitude she gave me.
I heard the door unlock and I looked up from my book and she surely was a sight to see. She was tall and thin and her stilettos boosted her another four inches. She towered a bit over Cody, just like I had always done. Her hair was a bush of long dark locks swept over one side of her shoulder. She had the curled horns of a ram matching the fur of Cody's. And her eyes. Her eyes. A piercing, icy white. There was nothing beautiful about her, to me. All I got from her was an eerie, deathly feeling. Her face was solemn as she stared back at me. She had narrowed her eyes and turned her head slowly to Cody.
"Who is this man," she had said in a strange foreign accent I couldn't quite put my finger on.
"Cody, the guy I was telling you about in the car. He's really nice once you get to know him," he said cheerfully, trying to make me seem a tad bit more approachable.
His opinion didn't quite seem to cut it. Her head shot back at me, her glossy hair bobbing slightly.
"I disapprove. Get 'im out of my face."
Cody's face has dropped; he seemed torn. There was a long pause, and my gaze shifted slightly from her to Cody.
"He leaves or I do." she said icily, crossing her arms staring down at Cody.
"C'mon Alisha... you don't even know him yet... he could be-"
He was interrupted by the loud clattering of her heels as she made a swift movement for the door. She had put her hand on the handle when Cody had made his decision.
"Wait! Don't go... Mike... could you please?" he only looked at the door.

That told me more than enough. Our friendship was less important. I could see the girl smile out of the corner of my eye as she gently turned the knob to open the door and made a hand gesture out onto the porch. I was up and out of their sight in less than a minute with the door slamming at my heels.

I didn't hear from Cody the day after, or the day after that. A few days after the incident I had only seen him once or twice in the hallway and he motioned for me to join him. He looked hollow. Sad. Lost. I just turned the other way. I got a phone call and a text day after day but I never answered and I never replied. I was too angry, or that was what I was feeling then, but in reality I was just being stupid. Cody, I'm sorry. I should have answered your calls. I should have replied to a single text. I should have told you the truth.

I should have told you I loved you. Instead, I left you deserted.
