the roleplay will begin with the group of renegades regrouping themselves and catching their breath after successfully breaking out of their confines in the facility housed underground some miles in the mountainous regions. you take refuge near Oxford, where you're familiar, and hope to recruit other young ones that were neglected and abandoned in an attempt to rally a force to fight against the gobblers.

you desperate ones

you weren't so lucky with the gobblers when
you were captured. in fact, your daemon
was completely ripped from you, and to
this very day you still remember the
searing pain as if something so inherently
you was being torn right from your
very soul. it haunts you in your sleep,
and not a day goes by where you don't
hear the cries of your daemon as they cry
for the help that you could not give.
but now there might be another way.
the gobblers have offered you a deal:
bring in more children, more victims,
including the ones that have escaped, and
bring them back to the facility. then--and
only then--will you be reunited with your
precious daemon, who is surely waiting
for you. until then, you must endure
separation, self doubt and conflict, and
must be willing to push through betrayal.
these characters will be anywhere from
around seven to twenty years old. if
anything else, these will be the oldest
out of all the characters in the gang.

you lucky ones

you were able to get away from the gobblers
with your daemon safely tucked away in
your arms--but just barely. you can still
hear the machine revving up, the tension
and fear that was building inside of you.
you never want to go through something
like that again, and nor should you. you
resolve to stop these gobblers at whatever
cost, sticking to the group and working
hard to bolster your ranks. you'll never go
back to that facility again as a prisoner.
the only way you'll ever go back as is a
soldier. a fighter. a warrior. you will not
back down.
the gobblers are tracking you, and you
can tell. what you can't figure out is how
they keep finding wherever you are so
quickly. could it be there are traitors
in your midst? so then who can you trust?
figure it out soon.
these characters will be anywhere from
seven to perhaps sixteen years old.
these characters will be the youngest
ones in general.

the aristocrats are the richest and one of the most influential classes out of all the ones at oxford. while they may be the ones that are victim to presumptions that they are flighty and spend all of their money on parties and material things [and quite a few do], there are other aristocrats that are shrewd and have worked their way to the top using tricks and schemes. there is a wide range of attitudes of people in this class. you can be assured that whether you are more of a laid back party-goer or a sharp minded politician, you've lived a rather comfortable and easy life. one of the few classes that have a formal education

the magisterium is the dominating power throughout oxford, the papacy spreading its divine right to rule under the blessing of the gods. while some followers of the church are true and loyal, there are still others that have given into the materialistic side of the world and have become corrupt and easily influenced by some of the more conniving of the aristocrats. essentially, the church makes most [if not all] of the decrees of the land. these decrees tend to heavily favor the aristocrats and stifle the lower class. one of the few classes that have a formal education

the merchants aren't the richest, nor are they the poorest class. they get along comfortably, to say the least, although they are sometimes forced to travel to find consumers for their wares. they tend to be charismatic and well educated in street smarts. they have very little formal education, however. still, most merchants can do basic arithmetic at the very least, and some can even read [albeit somewhat slowly]

the servile class are is the class that's in the houses of the most fortunate, doing the wok that no one else wants to do. while it's not very graceful or beauteous work, servants have the advantage of knowing when their next meal is and where they're going to sleep that night. their lives are quite stable, even if it's not completely byzantine. it's doubtful that they'd make it very far on their own in the streets, either

the peasants are the poorest class, scrounging the filthy streets of oxford in an attempt to find some morsel of food to survive the next day. few people take notice of this class, which may be why gobblers tend to target this class the most. what sort of child is easier to steal than a child that won't be missed? peasants tend to be more adaptable and flexible to their situations.

standing for the "general oblation board" [otherwise known as the "gobblers"], this group is notorious for kidnapping children to subject them to experiments where they attempt to sever the connection between the child and the daemon in a process called "intercision".

ᵈᵘˢᵗ
dust is a substance that is magical in nature and able to connect between dimensions. the original reason dust was being collected was to breach the wall between two dimensions. severing the daemon from the human releases a huge amount of energy, which is equivalent to dust

ᵈᵃᵉᵐᵒᶰ
the daemon concept is that the daemon is the representation of its human's soul [so essentially, the soul is outside of the human in this universe]. the daemon, when with a young human, changes between many different animals [although it has a preferred few] instead of settling into one, which all daemons do, eventually. when the daemon settles, the energy the child will give off through intercision will not come forward. daemons shift between animal forms through the child's puberty.

I don't care about gender balance, but if it really bothers you that much, then step up yourself and do your best to even it out. similarly, I don't care about sexual orientation, although for the time period of this roleplay I'll have to rule out colored hair as well as emo/goth/scene/etc., although I believe piercings would've been fine. just don't go crazy with those. if you make multiple characters, please put each one in a different class.

• No reserves because it's a pet peeve of mine. that's just how it rolls. however I will take reservations if you're from the semi-lit+ club for one day, since I know how you guys write and I know you guys are capable simply because you're in that club. so. one day since the day you ask.

• Own forms because I'm a pitifully lazy person. I don't care what it looks like as long as it has the following: name, age [look at the plot for the age ranges], gender, class, personality, physical description, and if they're working alongside the G.O.B. or not [note that those with daemons can still be with the G.O.B. as well].
if you have a daemon, please include the name of the daemon, the personality, and a few of its preferred forms. don't go all hippogriff on me. they don't really transform into, like, elephants or anything like that. something smaller.
and yes, this time around history is completely optional. maybe I'm getting soft?

ɴαмe Coraline Demitria Forbes
Coraline's name is pronounced "CORE-ah-line dah-MEE-tree-ah FORBS". If you ask her, she won't know the answer, but in general, "Coraline" means "from coral". It has nothing to do with Coraline herself. In fact, she stays away from the ocean as much as possible--she can't swim. Her parents just liked the sound of the name. "Demitria" is basically a version of "Demetria", which means Earth or barley mother [having been based from the Greek goddess Demeter]. Again, her parents chose this name purely because they liked the sound of it. "Forbes", as far as Coraline and her family knows, has no deep meaning in particular.
Most people tend to call her by her longer name "Coraline", which she actually prefers. However, some people have taken to calling her "Cora", "Corey", and "Demi" [she actually strongly dislikes the latter]. Typically, she'll let you know if she doesn't like you calling her by a nickname, so have a stab at is and see what she says.

Coraline was born on October fourth and literally just turned twenty, which is probably why she doesn't really look like she's grown into the number, yet. She was born in a poor family's home on the outskirts of Oxford an almost immediately ended up on the streets after her family had too many mouths to feed, which was only, at the time of her birth, four. After she was abandoned, there were three left in the family: her mother, her father, and her older sister.

That's right, a twenty year old is getting her orders from an eight year old. She actually doesn't mind at all, however. Coraline has that personality where she'll go along with everything, and besides: he's really done a pretty good job so far. She never really had a strong desire to be the absolute leader, although she likes knowing what's going on for the most part.
αllιαɴce g.o.b.
Coraline's daemon, Christopher, was separated from her when she was about fifteen [which was pretty late, considering], and she'd been wandering around Oxford, waiting for some sort of salvation that would allow her to get him back. She had no idea where the g.o.b. was, after all. Recently, they approached her, saying that a new group of children and young adults had escaped from their custody, and that Coraline's job would be to report to the g.o.b. on regular intervals, and they would allow her to see her daemon.

Coraline is very tall if you factor in her age, and she knows it. While she's quite confident in herself, however, she holds herself like someone who's not confident at all. Coraline's shoulders are always rolled in and she sometimes slouches a little when she's standing or sitting. It's not that she's scared of showing her face, but as a child she didn't really have the idea of "posture" drilled into her. As a result, it's a bit of a bad habit of hers. Her legs are longer than her torso, which might be why she's so tall.

Coraline is quite underweight [the target weight for her height being 150]. She's not anorexic or bulimic or anything, but Coraline seems to be naturally thin and doesn't have any fat on her, and one must also consider that she'd been living on the streets for most of her life [before she was picked up by the gobblers]. You can clearly make out many of her bones with distinction.
Coraline struggles to find much to eat each day, but she has developed some toughness from running around and stealing. While she's still naturally quite weak, she's able to climb and make her way through the maze of roads. Perhaps it's more fair to say that she's got endurance and speed rather than to say she's strong?
ɢeɴerαl all bone, no substance
Coraline is generally only noticed for her striking height, which certainly gained her attention. However, Coraline is mostly unnoticed if you factor that out. She has a certain innocent atmosphere about her, with larger brown eyes that make her look younger and perhaps a bit more absentminded than she really is. Coraline's hair is quite short [after a while she got tired to pulling it back], exposing her neck, which looks longer without hair covering it up.
Her shoulders are narrow and rather bony even if she wasn't as thin as she was, sloping downwards. She doesn't have much of an hourglass figure. It's not that she's a complete rectangle, but compared to others, she's not exactly shapely.
She can't really be described as pale in particular, but it would be too far to say she's tanned. Perhaps it's just safe to say Coraline is a healthy shade? Her nose and cheeks are covered with freckles, as are her upper arms. Coraline is still deciding if she likes them or not. Some days she does, others she doesn't.

perѕoɴαlιтy there's one that goes to the beat of her own drum
Coraline is quite introverted. Usually, when she's in a group, she'll stick to the background and politely smile and blink and give a quick smile to let people know that's she's listening, but she doesn't really speak. It's in this way that she's quite unapproachable. No one really has a good grasp on her personality. She tends to give a nice small smile in response to whatever question you have, cock her head to the side in polite curiosity, and she tends to answer in short, quick statements or words. She doesn't like to ramble.
However, while she doesn't like talking pointlessly, she enjoys being around other people just for their company. As long as she doesn't have the speak, she gets along perfectly well. Coraline likes to listen to other people have conversations with others, and she loves to laugh and chuckle at the jokes others make. However, she doesn't really make them herself. Coraline has a bit of a dry and somewhat off-kilter sort of sense of humor that she doesn't really advertise.
Coraline tends to go with the flow and let other people do their thing. She'll just follow along, humming to herself and swaying a bit while looking skyward. She goes along at her own pace, so if you're in a hurry you shouldn't expect her to follow as fast as you want. While she doesn't do it aggressively or loudly, Coraline does make everyone know that she has her own confidence and will make it known that she'll do what she wants because she wants to do it. She will not be ordered around by others, and she will not be forced into doing something.
Sometimes Coraline acts almost like a small child, curious about everything and everyone that's around her. Coraline lets out quiet, small exclamations of fascination and points to things that fascinate her. She skips around and slouches about at random points based on a mood. Sometimes she pouts, but typically she doesn't really blow up in peoples' faces. Coraline's version of a tantrum was holing herself in a room and clamming up, putting on a sour face until someone guesses for themselves what's wrong and offers her an adequate peace offering of sorts. She can't wait to discover everything there is to know for herself.
In general, Coraline typically has a someone absentminded and naive sort of air. In reality, Coraline knows about a lot of things, although she's not really a person that gets flirtatious innuendos or jokes. It really doesn't click with her. However, absentminded she is not. Coraline is actually quite observant of a few things, even though she gets a bit vague sometimes and seems to space out. It's true that she does go off and think about other things and lets her mind wander, but she does keep an ear on the conversation, as well. When you think she's not listening, she probably is.
Coraline always immerses herself in her sculpting. It's one of the few times that she truly gains a very piercing look in her eye. Her brow furrows as she concentrates on translate the image she has in her mind into the clay in front of her. It seems to be the only activity that's able to really draw out any real devotion from Coraline.
Coraline is not really a "friend" due to the fact that's she's not really the best person to chat with. She's a good listener, certainly, but when it comes to having someone you want to talk to, you should probably find someone else. However, Coraline is always willing to do favors (as long as you're not abusing the privilege) for the people that have won a small place in her heart. It's kind of hard to find out what Coraline thinks of you, though, as she's not really one for gossip or really giving much expression in her face (which is usually permanently frozen in that faint smile and slightly curious eye widening). You'll probably be considered a friend of Coraline's before you even realize it yourself, although she makes mental notes on who she likes.
She's not really the person that's going after people to confront people. She tends not to really take offense or argue with people often. She kind of furrows her brow a bit and stares at you a long while until you feel uncomfortable and turn away. It's kind of like a "oh, they said that? how fascinating" moment.
If you can get over the fact that you might have a one sided conversation once in a while, Coraline is a nice person to go to if you want to steal a moment to yourself. She too appreciates personal quiet time. She likes to just sit outside on the porch and smile up a the sun because it feels nice.
Coraline is rather spontaneous in her actions and rarely gives explanation except for things that are so frustrating sometimes that it seems like she's only saying that to annoy you. One moment she might be munching on an apple when, very quickly and suddenly, she shoot up to her feet and run off to do something without saying a word. Her mind works at a hundred miles an hour, making decisions and randomly going on tangents. It's almost as if she's thinking about two things at once. It's very true that Coraline likes to multitask. She likes to keep her hands busy at all times, and she tends to fidget a lot.
While she is rather quiet, Coraline does have the capability of really becoming serious and stern for a moment and giving a nice long speech to people that's easily relatable. She enjoys being able to communicate with others effectively. However, when she's not on the stage, Coraline has difficulty understanding or connecting with others. She has trouble relating to troubles or problems, and sometimes she doesn't get the subtle innuendos that are discussed between people. Indeed, she's had to ask Victor many times questions on human interaction, which she really doesn't seem to get. It's not that she's a cold hearted person, it's just that sometimes the emotions of others don't really make sense to her. In fact, her own emotions sometimes don't make sense to her, and often she has a difficult time expressing those emotions.

Christopher prefers to be called by his full name rather than a variant. He freaks out whenever anyone ever gives him a pet or nickname. Coraline tried a few times when she was younger. She decided she'd better not try again.
perѕoɴαlιтy eccentric
Unlike Coraline, Christopher is loud and always moving about, cackling as he goes. To anyone else, he might've seemed legitimately insane, but to Coraline, he makes perfect sense. He has this odd, cynical and depressing humor and wisdom, but this may all very well be a mask to hide his shrewd mind.
Christopher is constantly moving. It seems as if he's incapable of staying still. When Coraline is enjoying a quiet moment, Christopher has to be active. He'll climb walls and over chairs and more or less make a fool of himself just for something to do. Constantly, he'll ask for Coraline's attention to do something or other. He's quite narcissistic.
However, where Coraline is vague and has somewhat of an absent look in her eye, Christopher is always watching, his gaze sharp and piercing. His eyes are always active, going from one person to another to another, observing and taking mental notes to himself. He always wants to have the advantage over others, and unlike Coraline, Christopher much prefers being in the leadership position and having followers instead of following others. He was always telling her to push herself more, to be more assertive, et cetera, et cetera. Coraline was never really interested.
Indeed, Christopher is much more opportunistic than one might think, and while Coraline does have some self-worth and respect, Christopher is very selfish, believing that all things should belong to him. He is often frustrated with Coraline, who doesn't seem to want to push herself to gain more riches or fame.
ғorмѕ squirrel, magpie
Christopher prefers the form of a squirrel. The squirrel is a symbol of activity and playfulness as well as the fear of not having enough of something, which Christopher most definitely has. He runs around and sometimes acts just as childish as Coraline does on occasion. His second form happens to be the magpie, which symbolizes one who is opportunistic, selfish, and also perceptive. Coraline is rather absentminded about subtle things, but Christopher certainly is not.

Coraline never really interacted with many people or had any relationships that would've fostered into love or even a child crush. She's been in the streets and in the custody of the g.o.b. for the majority of her life, after all, and there's not really much opportunity to fall for someone.
Coraline is not really against the idea, nor is she for it. It's just not really a priority.
