snatching up children and tearing apart their bonds with their daemons.
why? because of the Dust of course. Dust may very well be the most valuable
substance in the world, and it can only be attained by separating the bond
between human and daemon.

and you will fight
but will you conquer?

the roleplay will begin with the group of renegades regrouping themselves and catching their breath after successfully breaking out of their confines in the facility housed underground some miles in the mountainous regions. you take refuge near Oxford, where you're familiar, and hope to recruit other young ones that were neglected and abandoned in an attempt to rally a force to fight against the gobblers.
you desperate ones
you weren't so lucky with the gobblers when
you were captured. in fact, your daemon
was completely ripped from you, and to
this very day you still remember the
searing pain as if something so inherently
you was being torn right from your
very soul. it haunts you in your sleep,
and not a day goes by where you don't
hear the cries of your daemon as they cry
for the help that you could not give.
but now there might be another way.
the gobblers have offered you a deal:
bring in more children, more victims,
including the ones that have escaped, and
bring them back to the facility. then--and
only then--will you be reunited with your
precious daemon, who is surely waiting
for you. until then, you must endure
separation, self doubt and conflict, and
must be willing to push through betrayal.
these characters will be anywhere from
around seven to twenty years old. if
anything else, these will be the oldest
out of all the characters in the gang.
you lucky ones
you were able to get away from the gobblers
with your daemon safely tucked away in
your arms--but just barely. you can still
hear the machine revving up, the tension
and fear that was building inside of you.
you never want to go through something
like that again, and nor should you. you
resolve to stop these gobblers at whatever
cost, sticking to the group and working
hard to bolster your ranks. you'll never go
back to that facility again as a prisoner.
the only way you'll ever go back as is a
soldier. a fighter. a warrior. you will not
back down.
the gobblers are tracking you, and you
can tell. what you can't figure out is how
they keep finding wherever you are so
quickly. could it be there are traitors
in your midst? so then who can you trust?
figure it out soon.
these characters will be anywhere from
seven to perhaps sixteen years old.
these characters will be the youngest
ones in general.

ᵃʳᶤˢᵗᵒᶜʳᵃᶜʸthe aristocrats are the richest and one of the most influential classes out of all the ones at oxford. while they may be the ones that are victim to presumptions that they are flighty and spend all of their money on parties and material things [and quite a few do], there are other aristocrats that are shrewd and have worked their way to the top using tricks and schemes. there is a wide range of attitudes of people in this class. you can be assured that whether you are more of a laid back party-goer or a sharp minded politician, you've lived a rather comfortable and easy life. one of the few classes that have a formal education1 male | 1 female

ᵐᵃᵍᶤˢᵗᵉʳᶤᵘᵐthe magisterium is the dominating power throughout oxford, the papacy spreading its divine right to rule under the blessing of the gods. while some followers of the church are true and loyal, there are still others that have given into the materialistic side of the world and have become corrupt and easily influenced by some of the more conniving of the aristocrats. essentially, the church makes most [if not all] of the decrees of the land. these decrees tend to heavily favor the aristocrats and stifle the lower class. one of the few classes that have a formal education 0 male | 1 female
1 of 1 characters takenᵐᵉʳᶜʰᵃᶰᵗˢthe merchants aren't the richest, nor are they the poorest class. they get along comfortably, to say the least, although they are sometimes forced to travel to find consumers for their wares. they tend to be charismatic and well educated in street smarts. they have very little formal education, however. still, most merchants can do basic arithmetic at the very least, and some can even read [albeit somewhat slowly]1 male | 1 female

ᵉᶰᶠᵒʳᶜᵉᵐᵉᶰᵗlaw enforcement tends to be the muscle behind the decrees of the church and the aristocrats. many of the members of the law enforcement might not support the new decrees at all, but they're loyal to their state and government. they'll follow orders to the very end. somewhat more militant than the other classes. law enforcement enjoys having order and alignment over disarray and anarchy.0 male | 1 female
1 of 1 characters takenˢᵉʳᵛᶤˡᵉthe servile class are is the class that's in the houses of the most fortunate, doing the wok that no one else wants to do. while it's not very graceful or beauteous work, servants have the advantage of knowing when their next meal is and where they're going to sleep that night. their lives are quite stable, even if it's not completely byzantine. it's doubtful that they'd make it very far on their own in the streets, either1 male | 0 female
1 of 1 characters takenᵖᵉᵃˢᵃᶰᵗˢthe peasants are the poorest class, scrounging the filthy streets of oxford in an attempt to find some morsel of food to survive the next day. few people take notice of this class, which may be why gobblers tend to target this class the most. what sort of child is easier to steal than a child that won't be missed? peasants tend to be more adaptable and flexible to their situations.1 male 2 female

this world is filled with important aspects that are essential to this plot. in case some of you are rusty on your Golden Compass, here's just a crash course.
** I'm somewhat rusty too ... I'm just using my mod powers to decide what's cool and stuff. I guess? **ᵍˑᵒˑᵇˑstanding for the "general oblation board" [otherwise known as the "gobblers"], this group is notorious for kidnapping children to subject them to experiments where they attempt to sever the connection between the child and the daemon in a process called "intercision".ᵈᵘˢᵗdust is a substance that is magical in nature and able to connect between dimensions. the original reason dust was being collected was to breach the wall between two dimensions. severing the daemon from the human releases a huge amount of energy, which is equivalent to dustᵈᵃᵉᵐᵒᶰthe daemon concept is that the daemon is the representation of its human's soul [so essentially, the soul is outside of the human in this universe]. the daemon, when with a young human, changes between many different animals [although it has a preferred few] instead of settling into one, which all daemons do, eventually. when the daemon settles, the energy the child will give off through intercision will not come forward. daemons shift between animal forms through the child's puberty.ᶤᶰᵗʳᵒ •

• Tess' Rules. shouldn't even have to explain those. if you break any of them, you'll be warned and/or kicked out, depending on the severity. if you need a refresher, they can be found here
• Two paragraph minimum if you please. I don't know if you would consider that semi lit or lit, but either way, that's how it is. I'm willing to accept a bunch of small paragraphs, too. just, you know, have some quality posts. please have correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation [the occasional mistake is fine, of course]. I don't care about how pretty you make it or anything, but if you use first person, please put the character's name at the top so we can tell who it is. Do not use images [including fontmeme] in your posts should you prettify them. that is now considered spam, and I will not be locked for spam of all things.
• Limited spaces as usual, if you've been in my roleplays before. please make as many characters as you can handle [take another look at that literacy requirement up there!]. I don't care about gender balance, but if it really bothers you that much, then step up yourself and do your best to even it out. similarly, I don't care about sexual orientation, although for the time period of this roleplay I'll have to rule out colored hair as well as emo/goth/scene/etc., although I believe piercings would've been fine. just don't go crazy with those. if you make multiple characters, please put each one in a different class.
• No reserves because it's a pet peeve of mine. that's just how it rolls. however I will take reservations if you're from the semi-lit+ club for one day, since I know how you guys write and I know you guys are capable simply because you're in that club. so. one day since the day you ask.
• Own forms because I'm a pitifully lazy person. I don't care what it looks like as long as it has the following: name, age [look at the plot for the age ranges], gender, class, personality, physical description, and if they're working alongside the G.O.B. or not [note that those with daemons can still be with the G.O.B. as well].
if you have a daemon, please include the name of the daemon, the personality, and a few of its preferred forms. don't go all hippogriff on me. they don't really transform into, like, elephants or anything like that. something smaller.
and yes, this time around history is completely optional. maybe I'm getting soft?
• Be active by posting at least two to three times a week. I would really appreciate it. if you don't post within that time, I'll PM you, wait another two days for you to respond, and if you haven't I'll kick you out. if you have, we'll have to play it by ear from then on.
• This is not a romance so just remember that, si vous plait. ^^
• Please listen to mods which would be me and my mini-mod, nicolae [they helped me out with some of this stuff. I'm super rusty. x.x]
