She has always been spoiled.
He watched her trot across her pristine lawn with her untouched fur and lift her head to peer up at her master, wagging her tail fiercely in glee. He had seen the same routine for days now. Curled up beneath the jagged thorns of a rose bush on the edge of her territory, he watched her with narrowed, sharp Valentine eyes.
Prancing on her four perfect paws, the young albino pup paused in front of the door, speeding up her joyful encounter even more. Her human made inane cooing sounds as his dog and crouched down to fasten something around her throat. Briefly, he sat up, his attention pricked. When the human finally crossed the threshold and disappear into the house, he momentarily left behind his pet.
The girl now stood arrogantly with a startling red ribbon tied around her neck, resting comfortably on her shoulder blades and gleaming in the late afteroon sunlight. Caecity honestly felt sick. His stomach rolled and he ground his fierce jaws together, ignoring the aching hunger. She was so perfect. She had never known hardship.
It had taken months, but eventually, Stormsung noticed there was a stranger trespassing on her land. In the beginning few weeks, she had patiently tried to wait him out. Going to sleep with a full tummy every singel night did not effect her negatively; she was consistently in a good mood and this allowed her to leave him alone.
But after a while, her owner started making noises about it. She didn't understand, but once she recognized the words, she realized that he was setting a plan to "exterminate" the unknown animal on the land, and although she felt guilty, she still refrained from doing anything.
The day that it was scheduled from a certain man to come out and collect him, she snuck outside. It was still very early in the morning, and the tall grass brushed delicate dewdrops all across her fringed fur. She was scared of this unknown influence but she refused to give him no warning and tenderly, quietly, she crept up to the falling shade of bush.
"...sir?" She called softly, dainty in both her voice and posture. Her shoulders were shrunk down a little bit and she hunkered there, belly fur brushing lightly against the grass underfoot. "Um...are you awake?" She asked, worried. Maybe he was gone, and she was just overreacting...
The niggling pressure of a voice was what jerked him out of sleep. His muscles tensed and he lifted his head immediately, brilliantly colored eyes opening up to blink, confused, at the mirage that stood before him. For a moment he only looked at it, puzzled as to what he was seeing; but when he realized she was speaking, he frowned, a low growl raising his hackles.
"What is it, cur?" He snarled at her, completely unwilling to extend the same friendliness she was showing him. The dumb female took a few steps back, and silently, he rejoiced. Good. At least there was something he had that she did not; anger.
She whimpered and mumbled something about him in danger, but by then he was already watching the shining hide of the humane society van pulling up along the curb. He jumped to his meager paws and turned to flee but stopped, a faint tremor running through his body. Figuring he was going to regret this, he sighed and glanced at her.
"There is no way you'll be getting back into the house before he sees you. He's gonna think you're a stray too." He wrinkled his nose at speaking to the unintelligent girl, but he rolled his eyes and continued. "So follow me if you want to live."
It was the last thing he spoke to her. If she was smart, she'd follow. He disappeared into the swirling leaves, leaving her behind him to chew over his words.
A few seconds later, there was a presence beside him.
Her voice was soft, but strong. Bold almost. Perhaps this freedom ride had been exactly what she'd always been waiting for. Caecity didn't know her enough to judge her abrupt new attitude."What's your name? I'm Stormsung."
