Sober have a six month old baby at our house. I gave my ratites baby food is that ok?

Shadisin I'm not trying to be rude but honestly I find your posts difficult. You are so careless with them, it doesn't seem to matter that they are missexed (rats are extremely, extremely easy to sex - from a day old!!) and when they do have litters it doesn't seem a problem. Have you tried to split the girls? Tanks aren't a good place to keep rats, especially not babies, do you have cages for them? Are the girls actually getting good protien food - which they need to nurse the babies? Sigh...

I don't care, because I have homes for them all at this moment and I'm buying a second cage FOR my males so that I Can seperate them.

And Syria gets plenty of protein for these pups, this was my FIRST TIME ever sexing a litter, so yes I made a mistake first off, but corrected it as soon as possible by doing research and checking again. She is in a LARGE reptile TANK, which has plenty of room, and she gets to come out and play with the younger females (which she has no problem with) for hours on end while I socialize and take pictures of the pups.

Just tell me, what do you think I'm doing wrong? Why am I such a bad person in your eyes - how am I careless with my rats AT all?

I have multiple people helping me with my babies, and I know to seperate my males from my females at four or so weeks and if I need to do it earlier I will, provided Syria gets hours with them daily to nurse them until they're weaned. ALL of my pups are already trying food, and I'm very proud of them. They are also drinking from the water bottle, and love snuggles.

So please, just tell me how I am in the wrong. I don't mean to start anything but I find this very offensive. Just because I don't care for my rats like YOU do, I'm a bad person.

and yes, I DO have cages for all my rats when it comes time to seperate them. I am also getting a large ferret/rat cage from a friend as part of a trade that can house up to seven 2lb male rats comfortably. So far all my males get along, it'll take some time for them to adjust to the three new males (well, four, when Pistachio is big enough to go in that cage - I'm keeping Bentley with him when he's old enough since he's one of my more docile males, AFTER I get them use to each other) but there should be no problems.

and with my mice, I have three males, two females. I KNOW how to gender them properly now. All have beautiful spots like their papa, and I couldn't be more proud of them. The girls are letting me handle the babies AND them with no problems at all.

I'm going today to pick up my new girl.She's absolutely gorgeous from the pictures I've seen, and I cannot wait to see her in person.


On a more sad note, the lump on Ryu's belly has gotten bigger. It's not so big its causing her any discomfort, but I'm still taking her to the vet soon.

.. Is there such thing as a long haired rat?

I bought this light amber girl, beautiful ruby eyes, so light she's almost white so I'm not 100% on color.. but the thing is.. she has straight whiskers, and her fur reminds me of that of a rex but it's softer and longer. She's about the same age as another girl I just got, so it's not her just 'shedding/molting' that baby fur. She's about four and a half weeks old.

Also, my friend got me a seal-point ruby-eyed siamese dumbo girl with varigated berkshire markings. <3 looks like she's going to have some beautiful, beautiful points when she matures. I'm so excited.

I recently read that cheese and popcorn(the theatre butter on it) can encourage cancer in rats.. both of which I'd been feeding my Tulio for quite a while, who does have some pretty big cysts. x_x
Before I do anything else stupid are there any other foods that can make my rat's issues worse? (I already know about chocolat, milk and citrus)

i tend to avoid feeding them onions or peppers. I dunno if this is just my ratties, but i gave them some leftover salad (no dressings or oils) that had onions. All four of them had a onion slice and the next day their stool came out soft and not as the normal pellets. Itpassed within 24 hours, but still they were not happy.

I don't know about cancer-encouraging foods, but broccoli is really good for preventing it. It's also tasty
