I'm looking up tutorials, but I want some help from CS.
My friend and I really want to have a private server with our other buds.
But the problem is, most of us live out of state, so we can't use LAN.

I really want to make a proper server,no oe with hmatchi and all that,and one that runs all the time,not just when you open it.

To make a server, you will either need to pay a site to run your server, or you will need a really fast computer. I don't really know much more other than that. But if you want a server to go on with your buds, I say that you should either be prepared to pay some money, or you should find a server that isn't too well-known which you can chill out on.

u could use hamachi, alot of my friends use it

i myself have managed to figure out how to make a server without hamachi and without paying,
i think the only slight problem i have is that the external ip keeps changing even though it says its static, but i suppose its good for a type of security in a way

it took me 2 weeks to get it figured out its really confusing n a bit complicated

I have a thing against Hamachi. It's a way for people to play multiplayer without getting an account. Also, it gave me a virus. >.> Evil viruses...

I love playing around with Villagers and exchanging stuff. I also like books. I like to write lots of random stuff... They're also fantastic for adventure maps.

..Hamachi doesn't contain any malware within the files, so it'd be something else that gave you a virus.. and on the other hand, people who do not own premium minecraft can still play multiplayer on LAN and on servers. So it doesn't change much.

Just download the server that minecraft.net gives away, install it, open the ports given in the instructions and run the settings you'd like. Your friends just need to connect to your IP without too much trouble (assuming there aren't too many).
