Zoos most times then not take in rescued wild life. Most of the time when you see a wolf in a zoo it's either been a injured animal that can no longer take care of itself in the wild, or a hybrid wolf dog that's been rescued. Breeding programs atnzoo are started so they can help repopulate the endangered species. This is what most zoos do, well the Jacksonville zoo does at least

Nightfowl, they probably did have security. Most zoos do. I know the Houston Zoo has thick metal doors that they keep shut and locked when the zoo is closed. They also have security cameras for all the exhibits and most of the paths. But Zoos can be huge! The Houston Zoo takes up as much space as the private University campus next to it. The only reason they can't expand is because they're in a heavily developed area. I'm sure there are some zoos out there that are bigger. It can be difficult to keep an eye on every single fence bordering the zoo (the Houston Zoo is completely fenced in) and every single pathway even if they're heavily staffed with security guards.
EDIT: just looked it up, the houston zoo covers 55 acres in total. That's a lot, especially in a city like Houston.

I don't see anything wrong with repopulating endangered species.Or taking in a creature that can no longer take care of itself in the wild,either.So...the title doesn't fit. ._.
Also, you may want to check your spelling..I'm not sure if you're a newb here (a new member) or a troll posting a useless topic..

I agree and disagree. Some zoos are amazing and take very good care of their animals, giving them plenty of space and educating people about them. Other zoos though are absalutly dreadful, treating animals like items not creatures. So I support good zoos.

Stick to what you said makes no since, because there are a lot of problems in that post. I stick to what I said, rude as heck.

Why?
Because they provide safe homes for many critically endangered species.
Give animals the care they would NEVER receive out in the wild,
allow them to live 5 years more (on average) that they would out in the 'wild'
Allow people to view and appreciate wildlife that are not naturally found in their geographic locations?
Yeah. Horrible places zoo are.
Not trying to be rude, just pointing out some of the facts.
No not all zoos take great care of their animals .. but those zoos don't usually last long.
And the vast majority of the zoos take great care of their animals.
Even when animals are not held behind 'bars'
They are held in constant territory confinement, by other animals.
Other animals usually aren't as considerate as humans either,
so when animals cross territory lines they are not suppose to they are often times permanently injured, or killed ..
rather than just moved safely, as they would be in zoos.
