Say a rat from 2010 and a rat from 2012 have the same rarity bar and the same demand. Let's also say that there are only around 6000 of each of them on this site (meaning their numbers are the same as well). How much does date value actually go into deciding whether it's fair or not?

Technically thats fair unless you value dates highly, i guess.

Well look at some of the '09/'10 pets that are on the rares list; it's the same sort of thing. If they're both even swaps [and it's obvious enough they are] I would still swap them. Dates are still important, especially with older pets, but I wouldn't worry too much. That's when you head to the FTT and ask someone for a hand.

Thanks so much Nick! I've never had a very common and it always struck me as odd when it seemed like there were more uncommons than commons and very commons. One thing though: I only had one very rare pet and after the rarity changes, it went down to rare! So now I have no very rares Great idea, though!

So when the pets grow up their rarity's co0me up right away? Or is it just when it gets on the archive..?

as before, it should be that rarity gets updated about once a month, near the end once all the monthly pets have been adopted. This month it looks like we accidentally jumped the gun and put rarities up on the grown pets, but those might change a little by the end of the month when we update again (since more will have been adopted by then)

Well look at some of the '09/'10 pets that are on the rares list; it's the same sort of thing. If they're both even swaps [and it's obvious enough they are] I would still swap them. So I guess it's just an opinion thing, then? Personally, in that situation, I would still value the older pet a little more (not too horribly, though) just out of respect for the fact that it is quite a bit older. I just wanted to check what other people thought ^^

If there are about 6000 of each within the active trading population then they should be reasonably similar in value. The disparity comes due to the fact that if a pet is older, chances are that some of the people holding onto it aren't playing anymore. Or everyone who wants it already has one as part of their permanent collection and isn't willing to trade it anymore, since the new pets move around a lot more than old pets. This also makes it harder to trade for, so the perceived trading value could be higher.
So dates are still important.

Wow....That's a good explanation! It makes a lot of sense too! That clears something up for me too!
