Going to explain really quick for everyone:

As more pets are put into circulation by the active members, the rarities will fluctuate. Add more pets through adoption and the rarity decreases (after said pets grow into their final stages of course). Delete pets and the rarities increase. The rarities are NOT static because, as you ALL saw happen in a matter of minutes, tons of uncommon pets went to the new common rarities. This is because the process is done through code and isn’t done by hand, meaning the system will take into account how many of the pets are currently in circulation and it will update the rarities to match (every day or whenever the staff have set this thing to update).

I'm not very happy with this... I traded away an OMG so rare, and now almost all of the rares I gained have become uncommons. It's good for some people, but my number of rares has been cut down from about 100 to about 50, when it says on your chart that the number of rares hasn't changed?

A bad day for Chicken Smoothie.

You had many of the lower rares then. The number of rares DID stay the same because the number of Very Rares went down by forty, meaning the Rares GAINED forty, but then subsequently lost them to the Uncommons section, who lost far more to the new common rarities.

Don't worry too much about them. You didn't actually LOSE them, they are still of the same value, their tag just changed to the now (less common) Uncommon tag.

umm, would this mean that first pets adopted, that happen to be PPS, might get tag of OMGSR and cause insane hype :P even if only for few hours LOL. I think I liked no rarity until adoptable more :D
as for uncommons, I will treat them as I used to treat common rares and commons will be as uncommons before. We have more accurate scale now :D

But in the trades I can only see this under each pet:
"Rarity: <img src="/img/rarity/verycommon.png" alt="Very common"/>"

I had the same problem, but it straightened out soon after c:
it's all not good

When you trade down your OMGSR for "low" rares, then it's no wonder
that you might turn out to have made a terrible deal.
The rares list pets themselves haven't changed in their value or rarities,
[or at least most... what about the speckled rats? I heard some changed?]
so if you had traded your OMGSR for only rareslist pets, you wouldn't have had that loss.
In that case it's a problem with the trade,
as it never has been fair for you in the first place.
TRhis is exactly why the majority of us doesn't trade only after the rarity, but also age and demand.
It prevents situations as described by you,
where supposedly rare pets turn out to be worth less.

That's why normally the rarity tags aren't assigned the same month the pets come out.
Today was an exception. New pets normally don't get their rarity this early, and I'm sure it'll stay that way ;)

Yes, that may end up happening, and that is EXACTLY why people shouldn't get so hyped up over those kinds of releases. This system is going to show how the rarities will change over time, depending on the numbers, as the system SHOULD have been in the first place. And anyone who does end up trading away their OMGSRs and such for current month pets will hopefully learn from their mistakes and learn the lovely lesson of patience.

Cool!
*sniffles* all those pets I had to trade rares for have turned uncommon and the pets I traded for them are still rare. I feel stupid. I didn't even know those were bad trades 'til now.

One question; does this take away the need for using date to calculate a pet's worth?

Before the changes, many people stated in their rules that an uncommon '09 wasn't worth an uncommon '12, because less people were playing CS in the olden days so older pets are rarer. Now that the inactive accounts have all been removed and rarities are accurate, does that mean that an uncommon '09 is now worth the same as an uncommon '12, and a rare '11 is worth the same as a rare '08?

Gotta say, I like the changes. As an oldie here, the static groups of rarity never seemed to reflect correctly as we got more and more members... xD

As it stands, there's no way I'll ever complete my WL now with most of my wishlist moved to OMGSR. But that's fine; I'm content to stay up to date and glad this will make trading a little easier to navigate for people. :)

And the bars are a little awkward, but I'm sure I'll get used to them eventually.

Thanks for the update, Nick & Tess!
