Lynxpaw's eyes cracked open, and he let out a yawn. Moss clung to his brown grey coat, and it shook it free with a groan. Blinking against the sunlight, he stretched his forepaws, claws extended, then dragged himself outside. Instantly sunlight beamed down on him, and he purred in its warmth. Licking his lips, he made his way over to the fresh kill pile, only to remember that he couldn't eat until he'd hunted for the Clan. His eyes scanned the clearing for his mentor, but he guessed that Sparknose was out on patrol, because he was nowhere to be seen. Whiskers twitching in annoyance, Lynxpaw made a mental note to get up earlier. He padded into the apprentices den and saw his sister, Squirrelpaw, still snoring in her nest. He prodded her with his forepaw. "Wake up, Squirrelpaw." he breathed in her ear.

Squirrelpaw's eyes snapped open and she glanced around the den in alarm, wondering who'd woken her from her dream, but calmed when she realized it had been Lynxpaw. "You furball," she growled, leaping out of her den and tackling the tom cat. Lynxpaw let out a yelp in surprise, and he cuffed her ear gently. They tumbled over some nests, wrestling each other, until finally Lynxpaw had her pinned. He grinned. "Gotcha again!" he mewed in triumph, but Squirrelpaw didn't give up. She kicked her brother with her hind paws, sending him sprawling out the entrance. She sprung up like a rabbit, extending her forepaws in front of her, and landed squarely on top of him. Lynxpaw let out a whoosh of air, and he laughed. "Alright, you got me."
