We were TOLD she was 8 weeks when my brother took her (I wasn't there to see and didn't know they were getting a cat til they got home) but we're almost 100% sure they lied. We think she might've been 5 weeks or even half a week or so younger. Their explanation for her being so small was that it was genetics because her mother was tiny (which she was). We weren't going to give her back though due to the horrible conditions these people had been keeping their cats in (a dark, filthy basement with little human contact and probably very little food). For the first couple weeks we had her, we gave her both wet food and kitten formula then weaned her from the formula (she now free feeds dry and eats wet in the morning) partly because it hurt her to eat the smallest kitten kibble we could find. We also had to teach her how to use a litter box and, let's just say, she got many many baths the first few months.

Reese is a cutie! Calicos aren't my cuppa as I tend to like tabbies (orange tabbies at that) better but they can look very pretty :]

I'm really glad my rescue girl is absolutely perfect for me, even with her constant ear infections. As much as I like my purebred dogs, moggie rescues are the only way to go for me if I don't go to a breed specific rescue. No way of ensuring health, but I love the variety and "shelter lottery" is a lot safer to play with cats than dogs anyway. I'm very happy that Saff is so chill and laidback and friendly... after having a feral rescue that was violent and moody it's nice to have one that just wants to be loved. She was lovestarved as a youngster and knows that I'll give all I have and more for her.

^^ thanks. My favorite is actually flame points, followed by the other point types then calicos take a close third. Funnily enough, Reese is my third calico. We had two when I was a kid, one named Frisbee who was a sweetie and another we rescued near our school (that I forget the name of).

Flame lynx point (<3 Ragdolls), red Turkish Vans, calico van-marked mi-ki Japanese Bobtails... I like red cats okay >o> And red tends to show a lot of tabby so that makes it better. Silver tabbies are a close second and the darker points are third.

cat talk

Postby нσωℓ » Fri Aug 10, 2012 12:52 pm

Yay I'm so exited! , Father might be buying us 2 kittens! My father used to have a cat when he was little. I think it was a brown cat... Anyway, she was called Brandy. She was named after one my grandfather's favourite drinks. But one day, Father found out Brandy was pregnant! :o ! She'd obviously gone off with a stray, but lets not get into detail. :? . So finaly, the day came where Brandy had kittens. Aww! :P . But if you think the story couldnt get any cuter, think again  ! Father had fallen in love with one particular kitten. The little male kitten was named after another one my grandfathers favourite drinks - Whisky. Father and Whisky would never leave each others side. They where the best of friends. Whisky seemed to realy love his mother too :) . ahhh! But there always comes that one dark day. Brandy, the fearless, kind mother of a litter of over 10, got hit by a car and died. :( . Even worse, Shortly after, Whisky had dissappeared and was never seen again. . So thats the story of my father and his cats. I almost cried when I heard the story too! Your probobaly thinking 'why is he buying more cats if his hart has been brocken like that it the past?' My answer is: I dont know. Well, I sort of do. We've always had dogs in the past. But my sister, Kaycee has always wanted a cat. Sometimes I feel a bit bad for her. But where we live, there's like a hundred and fifty cats of all kinds down our road. You'd think she's be very happy surrounded by the thing she's always wanted. But there's a problem. The cats dont like Kaycee! We did a test because she didn't believe me. So I went outside alone and sat on the grass in the middle on the front garden while Kaycee watched me from the upstairs window. So I called to the cats in my best cat miow and soon seven cats bounded towards me. I'm not surprised. I realy did sound just like a cat. realy! It was so cute! They all purred and rubbed their cheeks againct my arm and licked my fingers gently with their rough little tounges. After about 5 minutes the cats ( because it was a hot day ) lay in the shade of the old tree and glanced arond the garden with relaxed, sleepy eyes. I gave them a final thanking look befor I strolled back into the house while my sister passed me along the hall. She slowly creeped into the front garden and sat in the same place as I had and I watched her closely. She miowed. I'm not bieng mean or anything, but I wasn't supprised to see the poor cats look up in alarm and bolt over the fence. She sounded more like a cat bieng stranggled than a cat miowing. So for half an hour she sat there, unmoving, desprately trying to call the cats back. But soon she ran inside with floods of tears. I realy felt sorry for her then. So that afternoon, I called my father. Thats when he told me the story of Whisky and Brandy. And guess what his answer was? :?: . No. He said no. I asked him why and his reply was: 'I don't want you to suffer the way I did.' . I knew I was beaten. for now... And that was another one of my storys. And so after monthes of nagging, I finaly won the battle. Kaycee wants a black and white girl cat. She dosen't know what she'd name her. I'd love a male orange tabby. I'd call him Mylo. :?: , Why you ask? For two reasons. 1) It's short for 'my love' 2) named after the star of my favourite youtube series: "Mylo the angry cat" WATCH IT WATCH IT WATCH IT! here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-MCXfCaW7g So far, there's part 1 - 72. Anyway, that's it for now. Oh, Also postme the breed, gender and name of your cat. Or, If you dont have a cat, post me wat breed, gender and name of the cat I should get. Thank you so much for reading this. Write again soon!

hmm she sounds very young i wouldnt be surprised if she was younger cats are ment to learn how to use the litter from there mothers, iv only have to ever teach one of mine and she still dosnt get it fully, but shes not the smartest cat in the world, and wouldnt be able to be in a house where she was the oldest cat or the only cat but that diffrent she was the runt of the litter your cat looks what it should be for a younger kitten (pandi could fit in a glass thats how small she was) but it sure dosnt look like it should have been away from its mother yet, but atleast shes going good now

as for the flame points , i like them to , if i didnt allready have 2 boys i would have gotten the flame point brother of ella but i did so i got ella, in the end it was right ella and panda fight but its good panda has become more of a cat shes allmost meowing now she eats other things then cat food some times(i fed her chicken, shes never eaten chicken befor just licked it) and just isnt as frightened as she use to be she still is at times but now she has started asking for rubs

Well, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even have a litter box for their cats. The first day we had Reese, she refused to go potty even if we put her right in the litter box. It was to the point she was crying and then she finally wet herself. When that happened, my brother simply put her in the litter box and she started using it from then on. I think she had already been conditioned to go on whatever floor the basement had (likely concrete). And when she had her kittens (my brother's idiotic friend let her out without telling us), I had to litter box train them myself because she wasn't doing it.

Usually if mamacat knows how to use a litterbox she'll teach the kittens as well, but not every mama knows and not every mama knows how to care for her kittens or even wants to care for her kittens. I've heard horror stories from breeders and vets that it can be hard to teach kittens to use the litterbox especially because a lot of cats want privacy when they're doing their business and won't "go" if you're watching. My friend took in a 3-4 week old kitten a few weeks ago that they're not sure will make it without mama's milk and antibodies and they've been struggling through getting him conditioned to use the box as well.

Reese was an extremely good mom up except for that part of it. The kittens were actually going behind a nightstand before I finally realized what was going on. I think Boo had sprayed in that area and no one had caught him doing it so they probably smelled his pee there. I just cleaned that spot really well then put some tin foil down so I could here them when they walked on it. Every time I heard the crinkle, I'd pick up the kitten, place him gently in the litter box then walk away. We were having them use the same litter box as Reese and Boo so the smell was already there. They just needed to learn to use it. Reese was a pain but only because she didn't know how to position herself I guess and she'd get her back legs covered so that we'd have to bath her nearly every time she used it. We waited a few minutes though so she wouldn't associate using the box with baths. She's much better about it now and I haven't had to give her a bath for that since she was a kitten. I think with Reese it helped that she already seemed conditioned to go in a certain spot/on a certain floor or whatever. So we just had redirect her like I did with the kittens.

EDIT: Btw, Jazi, you woulda loved Reese's kittens. They were all tabby with white and two were gingers ;)
