your able to get one of the two (version dependending) shortly after you take the ferry into kanto (i think), unless you mean defeating the elite 4 for the second time, it won't help (trading helps )

is heart gold or soulsilver your main version? it is for me. i'm trading and transfering all pokemon that need to be filled in pokedex entries, platinumn used to be main, but now i'm too lazy to catch trade pokemon. it takes 15 mins. to trade 6 pokemon. boring.

Pokemon Soulsilver is my main game now it used to be platinum then pearl.

to get to pllet town you need to get through most of kanto. (SPOILER!) plus when you get there the only thing you get is either the red/blue orb for groudon/kyoger and a kanto starter pokemon.

Actually, I only went through like, two towns to get there.
And when you get there before you beat the gyms and Red, you get nothing.

Which gym do you go to first in Kanto? Because the game wouldn't let me go to the first city where the first gym is.

Um the lightning Dude in Vermillion City. He has a Raichu and Mageniton and stuff like that
