Taylor held onto his every word like a lifeline. Like he was the water in the desert, and she was a sad, parched cactus; she could keep the words and store them deep down, saving them for a day when she needed them. "I will," she whispered fiercely, squeezing his hand. "They can't make me play by their rules; I will get out. I swear." The cannon felt like a blow down deep in her gut. She stroked Nick's hair one last time, before setting to work. The only way to keep her promise is to protect herself, and to not let nature kill her. 

The only way to keep the hovercrafts at bay was to keep a living tribute with a body. She eased the backpack from his back, still warm from the life he exhibited just a few seconds ago. As she worked, tears leaked from her eyes and onto his chest; tattered and bloody. Taylor automatically scolded herself for wasting such water, for she needed as much as she could get. The tribute pried the weapons from his belt, trying not to disturb his body. The familiar warmth that she knew would be there before he died was fading, and quickly. A tear welled up, temporarily blinding her. Guiltily, she wiped and dried her face with her sleeve. With the remaining wetness that remained, she swiped the fabric gently across her Ally's face. Leaving him filthy was the last thing he would want. 

Gingerly, she buttoned his shirt, rolled his sleeves and pant-legs so they were all equal length. No raggedy edges, no filthy hems. Just dirt caked with blood coated his shirt. Taylor cocked her head to the side. How do I hide that? she ponders, her fingers absentmindedly tapping to a rhythm she couldn't find on her hip. A sudden inspiration strikes her; the sad thing: it was so obvious. She lifted the jacket from behind his head, and spread it out over his chest like a mother would drop a blanket over a small boy. 

Taylor felt much older as she finally finished her shrine to the boy she considered her single friend in these awful times. She was almost home; so close. There were just three others left. She could go and see Tessa and her brother Daniel, and his friend, Michael. She backed up, not regretting her choice in the least. Her backpack loaded with many supplies, and her hands carrying more weapons than she could use at once, she stepped a good one hundred [100] feet back. The loud hummmmm of a hovercraft approached. Closing her eyes, glancing away, and fidgeting with the sleeve on her shirt, she felt in her stomach that the body was gone. The cannon fire still echoed through her skull, bouncing between crevices in her memories of him; them laughing, them smiling, him saving her from the raptor and them patching each other up. If he wasn't a Friend to her, she didn't know what was.

Finally, she noticed her surroundings. They had changed. Not the simple Oh, it's no biggie. It just shifted the sand, but the Oh my Gods! What's going on! You were dry just a second ago! The dry shrubbery shifted to a dark, luscious green. Blinking a few times, Taylor didn't flip out. She was still too stunned that her Ally had died to do much of anything. She began to work her way through the forest, searching for a tribute to get rid of; Taylor would do anything to keep her promise. Absolutely anything.

The raptor was attracted by the whirring of the machine that had come to pick up the dead tribute. It soared low against the trees, massive wings helping it guide, much like an albatross would over the ocean. Sure enough, as it hovered just above the tops of the jungle trees, there was a tribute down below. The raptor dove, talons outstretched, thinking of its hungry young. It grabbed her shoulders, beginning to tow her upward with giant flaps of its wings. Each time the tribute struggled, the talons dug deeper into her collar bones. There was little chance that she could escape.

(I just wanted to pop my nose in and say, that I had a very similar idea of betting on the winner, and I PMed Sorren Fey asking if it was OK, and got back... "we would prefer if you didn't introduce a bet system to your roleplay. Gambling is not really something we'd like to advertise or glorify on a family site and we think it will cause many arguments and fights etc."
I thought posting this would probably be nicer than reporting you, which seemed a little harsh as there's nothing in the rules against it.)

I don't think there is a reason to get rude at them for pointing out something to you that is important for your RP.
This is like a lottery basicly and lotteries where you have to pay to enter are not allowed on CS. So if anyone has already payed for this, they need to have their pets returned ASAP.

"Yes, allies is a good plan." Bean said, feeling the tip of Azalea's knife lightly on his back. It wasn't enough to cut him, or even scratch his shirt, but he knew she still had it. He let go of her at that point, perfering to be on the ground under his own weight. "Thanks for getting me out of there. Who knows what monsters they could have hiding under the water." He said with a shiver. There was nothing good that could come from that water, except something that might draw tributes towards them. "We could trap tributes here." He said, it was a valid idea. He could wait in a tree, and drop down on approaching tributes, then Azalea could come in and kill them with her dagger.

Bean wants to be allies, and has suggested a trap.

((Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think donating pets to a pool in order to get things for your characters in the games is alright, just not the betting part. If nobody bet on tributes, then everything should be fine with having a pool that goes to the winner. The way I see it is if you donate pets in order to get something in the games (like water or an escape pass) then it would be similar to getting an adoptable that someone else made, only instead of a picture of something, you get something that helps you in the roleplay. Please tell me if that's incorrect, since I have a pool system (Pretty much like it is described above- no betting, just pet for assistance) set up in a roleplay that will be starting soon, and I want to make sure it follows the rules too.))

(Honestly I was under the option that I wasn't entering a lottery. I was buying points to get extra things in a game, granted one that is a RP but they don't seem to have problems when adoption places make you buy things to enter a RP event. I've seen this. I wasn't entering a lottery. I was buying points to do extra things, such as have a companion and create a new species for the arena. Having pets for the places that you win seems like a good incentive to do well, kind of like a story writing contest. I do not want the pets I sent back, Skittles. I used the points, all of them, therefore I don't feel I have any claim to them. Use them as prizes. Also, most of the things that everyone has are from the cornucopia, besides a few misc. items and a couple of creatures, and those were free to have. You didn't have to pay anything to be in the RP, just if you want something extra to happen.)

((I feel the same way as you two. I was buying things to help myself win, not that that worked, and I wasn't trying to bet. And while it gave you a better chance of winning, you didn't have to pay to enter it. Keep my rats Skittles. They were in the trade section anyway, and I'd feel good knowing that they're going to be used as prizes for whoever wins. Also, this is a question to any of the remaining tributes. Would the winner mind if I used them as a cameo in one of the two Hunger Games stories I'm writing. /is offtopic.))

as far as my understanding goes, as long as i offer the pets back via trade and you guys decline, technically they're now mine, and i can do whatever i like with them - and exactly what i like will be to give them to the winner :)

roleplay is still going, though, no matter what happens to it :)
